India has the same problem, a persons whole life is dictated by exams, also due to India being a poor country when these kids enter university a lot of parents and grandparents are relying on their children to do well in school so they can get a high paying career like doctor ,engineer,lawyer, government to support the family and bring them out of poverty. It’s so much pressure that a lot of teens end up deleting themselves.

Man looking at your first JFAQ video in 2009, you looked so young. I was in 8th grade. It’s crazy to think about it.

Long time watcher here. That's so cool! It's great that your young fella gets recognized by his school and rewarded for such a great achievement, too.

Love you Scott! I am proud of you and inksmith and chatting with u for a moment on Discord. I have been through you through most of your KZbin journey. I appreciate everything you do. You are an amazing man and most likely an amazing father. You worked hard getting to where your at and even learning another culture and even establishing a successful business in Japanese culture. Knowing how much paperwork goes behind Japanese establishments and day to day life. You are a Samarai.

Damn dude!!! So happy to see you again! At 60 I wish I had the hair to do a mohawk or High & tight. I got my MA and I am looking to get into a PhD program in the coming year. That may well be my most difficult try thus far. I might be coming to Japan on Pilgramege in Sinjuku, but then I want to go around the country to meet my YT crew. Take to lunch or diner ect. As to America. I am in a rural city with old money and 2 University's. We are just getting fiber cables for high speed Internet. I know you bought the apartment. And you have been paying on it for years. Would you all come to the US if he went to Uni here? or split up? I was able to buy the 1900 built, all original wood home I was mostly dreaming of. Because my Grandfather was a GP & Surgeon I have a small trust and was able to get the house on a 15 year loan (I want to live to pay t off) for 160K $1428 mortgage. I have almost 3000sq ft with the finished attic. But for that in any major city. You can rent a 2 bedroom apartment in a safer area of town in a major city. but that's it. In the countryside we have the inflation but mostly not the empty shelves still in cities. I get online foodfor quality and organiic.

Congrats to your son! Yeah, I’m not really a fan of how much weight Japan put on these standardized test. They study so hard for these test, but then finish school and just forget most of it immediately. It’s like English. People study hard and get a perfect score in the TOEIC test, but can’t have a basic conversation in English. These tests don’t test your intelligence or competence-just your ability to take tests and regurgitate information. It’s sad because it doesn’t give the students the tools they need in this new global workforce. Just my 2 cents.

I miss your face on my screen Scott 😂 but I know how it is with kids. I have been a friend and fan for years (you and I used to play Minecraft together lol). With family kiddos and mental health on top of everything else never feel bad not being active man. Enjoy what you can. Prioritize yourself and family over KZbin for sure.

Wild to me that your son can find more merit in studying and passing tests than I have in the world as a whole in 26 years of life. Blind passion is kind of a gift

Oh Inksmith isn’t about japan. Also not sure if you know this channel has a bunch shadowbanned and striked for content because I use to cover a lot of social issues. The suicide in japan and death by overwork videos destroyed the algorithm for this channel

Childhood as a concept didn't exist until the 17th-century. theres no manual for childhood except maybe Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

Do Japanese people tend to think that people who think it's ok to do things when they're older than the age that society thinks you should, are pathetic losers? Do they have a problem with late bloomers? For example, people who get married for the first time or go to college in their 50's? I know they supposedly treat older people with more respect than other cultures, but are they still ageist in this sort of way? Do they judge people who weren't able to achieve certain life milestones at the "correct" age? If so, do you think this is the reason why they put so much pressure on kids to be perfect as young as possible, instead of letting them wait to figure out their own life and possibly get smarter and more mature when they're older?
@Melissa0774
@Melissa0774 Жыл бұрын
@@8qk67acq5 I can't imagine that ageism doesn't play a role, though. That sort of competitiveness is going to at least contribute to ageism because older people competing with younger people for the same opportunities are naturally going to be judged for it. I feel like this is true in the U.S, and we don't even have the competitive academic culture that Japan does, so I imagine it must be like 10 times worse there.
@unrested
@unrested Жыл бұрын
Hmmm there is some ageism here for example trying to change careers at 40 or 50 is unheard of but working a simple job post retirement is still common. The hardest age based things in Japan are the school system before college. To get into college you can take tests over and over but since there are formative years connected to elem and jhs classes there is a cut off. Is it fair? Is it ageist I can’t really say. I will say I think it’s a bit too extreme with the level of stress involved
@Melissa0774
@Melissa0774 Жыл бұрын
@@unrested Are they out front with the ageism, or do they try to keep it on the downlow like they do, here in the U.S? Does anyone ever go to college when they're older, either for the first time, or for a second time to switch careers, like many do in the U.S?

God help any Japanese kid who has learning disabilities of any kind. (the American definition, not the British one, btw.) You should do another video on that, specifically.
