I'm intrigued by the plot hinting that the girl is a bad relationship pick- makes me imagine all the minions you beat up are just trying to get in the way for Hero's own good, which would be a fun twist. At any rate it seems fun and simple, though I'm a little curious now- what are jumps used for, if dodges are seemingly the best / only way to avoid certain attacks and ride out the enemy's storm of attacks until they enter a vulnerable state?

Jump kicks are great to knock enemies down. But it's a bit more risky since some enemies can counter you. It's a pretty fun game, for the price, I don't think you can go wrong with it.
