I'll summarize my take like this: I play GR1 for the gameplay and speedrunning I played GR2 for the story and I can't wait where they take it next, if said "next" ever comes. Both are great for different reasons. I play them both the same way, not using block or ultimates in GR2, so it doesn't matter to me. I just wish the bike would stop adhering to the terrain every 5 minutes.

Ghostrunner 1 is much more difficult. In contrast, Ghostrunner 2 is beginner-friendlier, and, in some way, more relaxing and enjoyable. But, if you dedicate your time and patience to the first game, it'll feel incredibly rewarding. I remember being unable to pass the first few levels in Ghostrunner 1 without a lot of deaths. It put me in a position where I had to slow down, have a feel of the movements of the character, and understand the environment. Learning the behaviours of different enemies was important, too, since it could decide my life and death in particular situations. A lot of things in the first game I learnt were a must compared to just a necessity in the second game. The experience made me feel like a ghostrunner. However, Ghostrunner 2 was much easier. The blocking mechanisms and less challenging enemies gave me more room to enjoy the action scenes and the world within the game. I didn't stress out too much. And fortunately, the game was not too easy to the point the action was tedious. All that said, I adore both games, but in very different ways. I'm glad Ghostrunner 1 came out first. Otherwise, if something like Ghostrunner 2 had come out first, I would possibly haven't gotten the patience to play something like Ghostrunner 1 as a sequel.

I think Ghostrunner 2 starts off much easier but reaches a similar level of difficulty. The bosses in the first game are barely even bosses outside of the Project_Hel DLC

Wish this was mentioned more in the dialogue section, but I'm gonna say this as someone who liked listening to the story play out in the first game: The first game had much better dialogue and a good chunk of its humor in the interactions just came from the complete contrast in personalities from the trio: Zoey, the optimistic survivor. The Architect, who couldn't care less about anything unrelated to his and Jack's mission, and won't hesitate to show it and how naive he thinks Zoey is. And Jack, someone just trying to get his personal revenge mission done whilst listening to the two. Zoey's emotional goodbye in Ghostrunner1 immediately being followed by The Architect dryly telling Jack that "she won't last a day," was probably one of my favorite interactions.

As a person who played GR1 like 5 times while playing GR2 only once, I remember the soundtrack of the second game much more. Of GR1 the most memorable for me are Air, Infiltrator, Vendetta and the Orb. While for GR2 I feel like I remember many more, such as Loading, Mind as Universe, The Temple, God Run, Road Zero, but also tracks like Carrion Radiance and Discontinued. I don't think either was better than the other, they are just different. While in GR1 you had tracks that felt pressuring and almost alien in some areas, due to the keymaster being a threat, in GR2 you have more controlled and rhythmed music, except for in action scenes, feeling like you are just in more control and I think that is fine that way. I love both soundtracks and games but what's also fair to say is that GR2 was a lot longer than GR1 and it also had a few more tracks than the first game. It's all a matter of view and preference, wouldn't call either better than the other however

I recently completed the second game for the first time and I honestly think the first one was better gameplay wise. However, I did really like the new abilities and mechanics in the second game too. The second game was way better with the boss fights since in the first game it felt like every fight took the same concept of the last one with just a slight difference being added. The second game made you feel like you were actually fighting them rather than just doing some parkour, attacking, doing parkour, attacking, and so on and so forth. I think they're both good and I enjoyed the second game more than the first one, but the first one will always be a great game regardless of how many times I play it.

This is a great video which mostly encapsulates how i feel about these games. GR2 should've been harder, and my one main complaint is them not making the final boss fight hard enough. It didn't feel like we were really fighting what a ghostrunner should be. I definitely agree with the point of more gameplay options though, that was amazing. I experimented with shuriken builds, mixed builds, and combo builds. I hope you find what tempest boosting is also, thats very funny. I also agree that the ultimates are dumb lol

@feefety12005 ай бұрын
here is my analyses and comparisons between gr1 and gr2 1.gameplay is buch better than in 2 than in 1, you have more options for different playstyles and more balanced enemies, in first game you were expected to play just one way playstyle but in 2 you can focus on tempest, shadow and shurikens or you can combine them all, motorbike can be janky at times but fun af, after playing the second game i have a hard time returning to first and i'm always thinking "wow wish i could do this and that like in 2", also annoying enemies in first game like alqaida robots and laser fuckers you mentioned and also with parrying samurais you have more options to deal with, and bosses are definitive upgrade compared to first one, and especially if you like to parry like i do. 2.story while kinda same have expanded lore and characters, and while in fist game you have innocent girl and evil ai, in second characters have better banter between them, and like i said the lore and world building which i already loved in first game is expanded in second, also i don't know why everyone bitches about hub sections that much, optional dialog helps you grasp the world of gr and if you don't like it you can easily go to the important character and skip it and continue, and i got to say this villains in 2 are fucking stupid, while first game villains did the job for the smaller scope game that was gr1, in gr2 villains are typical "we are going to destroy the world, and mc is too weak to stop us" that is one critique i have to give the game. 3.game's artstyle shines in gr2, while in first game was incredible 2nd one is fenomenal, really gives places life and also seeing outside was hella cool, and overall graphicly is better. 4.soundtrack in both games is amazing Gr 2 has flaws mainly with villains and jank, but the core game is better in almost every way compared to the first one which is also incredible, i love replaying these games and i love gr2, i think gr2 is a step in almost every aspect compared to the gr1, and honestly i don't get the hate for sequel.

I think the 1st game was better rounded than the 2nd: it has a clearer vision, more focused gameplay, dare I say it was "purer". Also it had almost no glitches or bugs when I played it, while in the second I found my bike stucked on a wall or in the ground, and during a particuliary frustrating moment I glitched through the ground near the end of a level, dying stupidly. Also the hub was very useless and broke the flow. Still, I liked the game. very much in fact. The boss's are more interesting, the music is awesome, and I liked the extended cast of characters and the chemistry between them. The levels on bikes were very very cool and the one with the wingsuit was spectacular. TLDR, I think the 1st game did better by doing less, and although I'm a bit skeptical about an increase in scope or an open world, I'm very curious about a third instalement.

10:23 Tetris as upgrading is a very creative idea btw, what's the problem with it?
@TheChocoboRacer6 ай бұрын
it's unintuitive, it's boring, and it gets old. Nobody wants to have to complete a puzzle just to mess around with new builds, the fun from testing new builds comes from actually playing with them...not trying to play through a janky, unchanging minigame that has no relevance to the overarching story. I would argue that a lot of the puzzles in GR1 were a little forced in cybervoid, but the menu puzzle was just egregious. The build pathway in GR2 made more sense and was less annoying to deal with

after playing both games, imo the second one is better but not by a lot, here's what i mean: the second game has easier but more complex and creative gameplay, great visuals, better enemies/enemy balance and better cybervoid sections but has really goofy bosses, performance issues and 2 levels which are way too large for a game like this and imo the bike needs a rework i feel like i dont have full control over it (in terms of driving it and movement in general) like i have of my own character which caused me to die to many times. also it focuses on the story more which i like because the lore is actually interesting. the first game has harder and more simplistic gameplay (which i personally dont like as much) pretty good dialogue, ok visuals, terrible sections in the cybervoid that genuinely made me not wanna continue a level, less focus on story and it generally runs better. in conclusion, if you want a game with better visuals, easier and less simplistic gameplay and a bike + big focus on story then play the second game but if you want a more difficult, simple game with no open world sections/a bike then play the first one

Here is what i will say. GR1 is harder, and looks a bit better style-wise i think. But after playing both games recently, and even starting to do the hardcore mode on GR2 (got through most of it) i honestly think GR2 is better overall minus the bike segments. The bike wasnt done super well and honestly it isnt where the game is best. The bossfights are a straight upgrade from the first one in my opinion, and in traversal, largely connected to level design, the game feels like it has better flow. The upgrade system of GR1 was a bit more fun and required a bit more thought, so i guess thats a plus one for GR1. Also the story of GR2, for what it is, i thought was a bit more interesting slightly less stupid tbh (though both are kinda thin).
@SecretStreamy20 күн бұрын
I like both games pretty equally. There are some things that I think 1 did better than 2 and 2 did better than one, so my enjoyment is pretty balanced between both ghostrunner games. Making the third one open world, though, will kill the entire substance of the series.
@alessandro3032Ай бұрын
In the second game you are not running, or at least you don't feel the stakes of the story. Levels feel like a checkbox honestly. I never got into gr2 power up system, game is much easier compared to the first so i never even felt the need to open the tab. Kira is just an annoying charachter that just does not know when to shut up, she always has a cringe joke and she has to comment on every single thing that happen (she does not help in feeling the stakes of the story, she always say something that kills the mood). OW levels are just plain and boring and the wingsuit was a cool feature but not well exploited. The hubs are just not well designed and facial animation are too unpleasant. First game was simple and straightforward, it was well defined in it's genre and they know wich audience was gonna play the game, this one feels too random and it seems like someone tried to change what the developers wanted to do. In my opinion GR2 it is simply not worth the 60 euros that i paid but it is still a decent game. I hope they never make an open world ghostrunner game because it's just not compatible with this kind of playstyle

I didn’t like the way they treated Zoe in GR2. She’s pissy, arrogant - and she acts like a child around Kira. A pretty big contrast from her sweet, and good-hearted nature in the first game. Her final goodbye with Jack was also very underwhelming. Zoe (and Saul) were the only people who believed in Jack when everyone else left him for scrap. As a result, Jack came to be, tipping the scales in favor of her cause. I expected just a bit emotion from their exchange after everything they’ve been through, and we got practically nothing. Her cardboard-character model definitely didn’t do their final scene any favors either.
