Another thing about American school lunches is the cost. I grew up in a low-income household. One day during lunch, I was in the 3rd grade, I was going down the line to get my food on the tray. At the end of the line there's a cash register. I gave them my name and the woman told me my parents were behind on the food payment. They literally snatched the tray of food out of my hand and made me sit down without food while everyone around me was eating. I was crying at the table and my teacher asked me what was wrong. I told her what happened and she went over to the kitchen and demanded they give me food. She was so pissed she was in tears. More days than not school breakfast and lunches was the only food I got. I was supposed to be on the zero cost list for food but this was when everything was on paper and I guess they didn't know that. I will never forget that day and how low I felt. And God bless Mrs. Adams! She was the best teacher 💜

I never had lunch in school nether because would be charged for food, my single immigrant father got married to my then stepmother who was an architect and did taxes together but nether would give me the 2 dollars for lunch even though I told them about it I will never forget how everyone ate but me , for many years even as an adult I would starve myself thinking it would save me money, I’m okay now I’m a very good healthy cooker .

XD just giving a confirmation from a worker's point of food. Half the time, the milk company would send us milk that either had expired cartons, frozen solid or was this slimy yucky shit, we can get a box of roughly 120 apples or oranges, only to find at least 1-10 fruits in each to be completely rotten and disgusting, or there were times where they wouldn't even bring us what the manager had ordered a week prior. My manager had to wait many times only for items to come late, causing her to have to change what the menu would be for the day cuz we don't have the item we need for something on the menu

As a Spanish person, never in the 10 years that I had to eat in school did they give me shrimps lol. It was two plates of food that varied a lot, usually frozen food. Then a yogurt or "fruit" for dessert and that's it. Sometimes they gave you bread, sometimes they also gave cartons of milk, one per table, the tables were for at least 25 people, the small ones, and the double tables had 50 people. They were the milk wars... The water was also from the tap, tasted like rust. Edit: the school was, as a comment said, "concertada", which means it was half public and half private.

Public schools at least, concertados, which doesn’t have a word in English, is half public and half private, you still pay but you pay less and the food isn’t terrible either, in private schools, the food isn’t bad either, it just doesn’t have a ton of condiments but besides that it’s pretty good, I’ve been living in Spain for many years now and I’ve never had a bad experience with School food here in Spain, also depends on the part of Spain you are in, for example where I live, Galicia, the food is good, we have fresh fish, fresh fruits, vegetables, and the food is much better that’s what you described in your comment, but I would like to know, where In Spain are they feeding you this horrible food you’re describing?

@@Starae336 usually, but it wasn’t anything like this (at least for me). Usually there was edible food (my first high school had sushi and potato gems but I don’t remember the rest. Rectangle pizza and those petrol station sausage rolls were at my primary school, but that was a private one so idk about others) and some good drinks (maybe even some paddle pops etc.) In my experience it was usually only bought occasionally. For some of us it was about once a term (me in primary school) or on Fridays (some of my friends in primary school). Don’t think I know anyone who got it everyday tho

As a romanian, I will be glad to explain this one. That milk and bread are some types of ,,snacks” for the students, because we do not have lunch at school. Everything we eat is at home. In middle schools, there are classes that learn in the morning, and classes that learn in the afternoon. The morning classes are usually made up of 6-11 year old kids, and the afternoon ones of 12-14 year olds. Even though the little ones have about 4-5 hours and the older ones 5-7 hours per day, there is no meal served at school. We eat home before we leave and after we come. But never at school Those bread sticks are just used by the students as fighting weapons. They are extremely versatile, being able to reach from both small distances with a thrust, and long distances with a throw. Yes, you heard me right. They are light and allow the user to defeat his enemy by throwing it. As someone from this comment section said, they are “lethal weapons”, even though they taste like shit The milk is one of the “forbidden weapons”, because of the mess that they can make. Those small carboard boxes are nothing to mess with. You may drink the milk inside (or even chug if tou are worthy for the competition), but you shal never, but NEVER use it as a weapon. Once it has been used, the user’s fate is forever sealed with him. And trust me, it is not a good one. Hope it helped👍

As a Spanish student I can confirm that we don't get served shrimp at lunch. In Spain we bring our own lunch from home, and It would probably be: fruit (apples or tangerines) or a bocata (made of Spanish omelette or Jamón Serrano with cheese). In Spain there's no cafeteria, instead we all go to a big area where we enjoy our lunch and play with our friends while we eat.

I can't remember back as far as primary school (I'm in college now so that was over five years ago). In secondary school we had a canteen where you could buy pizza, sandwiches, jacket potato, chips, pasta etc. The food was really good as well, a little over priced, but better than the rubbish they showed in the video. There was also a massive choice of drinks, and you could buy cake and cookies too. You would pay for all of this using a fingerprint scanner. My secondary school was in North Wales btw, it was a pretty crap school, but at least the food was good, especially the pizza, large slice, stuffed crust, 10/10 lmao
