Oh boy, I remember the struggle with lockers! Also my school was very strict about tardies. There was the first bell and then a few minutes later would be the “tardy bell”. If you weren’t in class by that second bell ring, the teachers would shut the door and not allow you in. I’ve seen many teachers simply shake their head and shrug as they shut the door even though they watched me race to them 😭 if you were locked out you had to report to ISS (in-school suspension) room. My locker was downstairs even though most my classes were upstairs. Our locks weren’t attached to the locker doors so I purposely kept my lock off and inside the locker to make my life easier. I would have to race downstairs, throw my books in the locker, then race the other way to get to gym! 😂 luckily with gym they didn’t really mind the tardy bell since you had to go into the locker room to change first. Just as long as you’re there during roll call you were good. But then I would have to race to my locker then run up the stairs for my next classes 😭 oh it was a struggle

Oh man I feel this. I remember I had accommodation for so that way i wouldn’t get punished for being tardy. And that tardy bell at my school was three minutes from the “class is over” bell. In fact my freshman year i had the furthest locker from all of my classes. If i had to go to my locker from my first class it guaranteed I’d be late for the second. Luckily the teacher I had for my second class understood the predicament I was in so eventually I didn’t have to get a pass (a slip that gives a valid reason for being late) every single day.

yes so this show works like a cartoon, that is why some of the actions you see in the show seem cartoony, scott fellows produced the fairly odd parents a cartoon, so this was his version of making a live action show, but it's much more of a cartoony live action.

In the 11th grade, I would often be a minute late to my first class. I had good grades in all my classes. Then one day, someone pulls me out of class and tells me I got put in school suspension for too many tardies........So I missed work for all my classes that day. So yes, being tardy can affect your grades but for all the wrong reasons.

The weasel alert thing may be relatable for students in Christmas Island. They get crab infestations yearly, and the crabs have been known to penetrate school buildings and even walk by during class instruction, often in massive groups.

It was funny to see this episode dubbed in german, because no school I've ever went to over here has lockers like that. We had to carry ALL of the books for each day's subjects to school and back every single day, because we never knew ahead of time which books we would need. And those things were THICK and HEAVY. I'm pretty sure my posture was irreparably damaged by always having to carry that heavy backpack every day. We complained about it a lot but nothing was ever done.

This is the first time i've heard about dodgeball not being implemented as much anymore, and I can understand why. There is definitely an uneven power dynamic that can take place when you have stronger kids being a looming threat over less strong kids.

We didn't have dodge ball at my school. But I was the kid that kind of got floor hockey banned at my high school because on the first day on floor hockey in gym class i got checked real hard by a boy with a metal hockey stick in the face and I apparently collapsed because all i remember is being in the nurses office and missing second period. so supposedly one of school nurses (one of the nurses was my friend's mom) complained after filing a incident report thus I was the reason no more "real floor hockey" (they switched to a game foam sticks and a foam ball). It was literally first period and the gym teacher was so excited because they were brand new hockey sticks (rare to have brand new equipment in a public high school) but I guess my class was the only class who got to use them... So yeah maybe it was on the boy who thought it was okay to hit a girl in the face as hard as possible with a metal stick (he might have done it by accident but he was swinging a metal hockey stick at face level) or the teacher who did not say it was against the rules until some kid got hurt. but in my family and friend group I was the reason there was no more floor hockey in gym class. It has been 12 years and still remember the embarrassment of having to explain to every teacher and student that day why i had to ice my face and was brusied and for a shy kid it was mortifying.

I don't go to public school but mine does have lockers. The student count is fairly small and only 3 classrooms (including a gym) are on the other side of campus so tardiness isn't a big issue. And despite having chromebooks, I still have 4 textbooks, so lockers would be important

We had lockers when I was in middle school (it was called junior high at the time) but only for the 7th and 8th graders. There weren't enough lockers for everyone so they had the 9th graders use backpacks. If you were in 7th or 8th grade, you weren't allowed to have backpacks in class, the school claimed because of a tripping hazard, but 9th graders used the same classrooms with the same class sizes, and they were allowed to have theirs. When I was in 8th grade, my last class was very close to the busses, but across the school from my locker, so I would have to cross the school twice in 5 minutes, during the worst foot traffic of the day, or I missed the bus home. After missing the bus a few times, I just started bringing my backpack to my last class and that teacher was cool, so it wasn't an issue. In high school, lockers became optional; you had to pay for them and they were full sized, so kids would pair up and split the cost. I never got one. By then I had decided I was done lugging 3-4 massive textbooks to and from school when we hardly ever used them in class, and if we did it was only a few pages. I kept them at home for homework and on the few occasions it came up in class, I would share with my neighbor or use a classroom copy. I'm glad to hear schools have moved away from sending hardcopy textbooks home with kids. It always felt so unnecessary, having grown up in a time when a great deal of information is on every screen, communication is in everyone's back pockets, and (contrary to what my teachers told me) we actually *do* all carry calculators with us everywhere we go. Why couldn't we have been sent an access code to an electronic copy of the textbook at the beginning of the year, and then had 30 hardcopies in the classroom?

Dodgeball is excellent and suitable for coordination and team strategy. Love students vs teachers. Jailbreak is also fun, haha. Or adding special moves like blue balls would be a freeze ball. You can get creative with it. But I do remember getting bested by a rubber ball to the face. With glasses, it hurts way more. But we made it a rule if you hit someone in the face or head, you are out. Later on, they stopped using the red balls in favor of the foam ones, and it was less fun but not a gamebreaker.

When I graduated in 2011 lockers were still a big thing at my school. My highschool had one of the single longest hallways in Minnesota too. Had all my folders and stuff in a big binder and usually carried a couple of my textbooks with me so I didn't have to stop by my locker in between classes. Was heavy and very awkward, but I had literal nightmares about being late for class or not being able to find my classes at all.

In school, they gave us way too many textbooks. There was once a point in my life where I got a serious back problem because of it. All I could do was cry and lay down. Also, in high school, there was a small room with lockers. Honestly, I wished I had a locker so I could express myself. In high school, the lockers were only given to the students with high GPA. It always made me feel stupid because I never got one. It didn't help that a few of my teachers were terrible people.

When I was in middle school, we used lockers, but never had lockers where the combination lock was built into the locker like that. All the lockers had a slot for a padlock and we were required to purchase combination locks from the school that had a set combo we couldn’t change. All the locks had a key slot on the back that a master key could unlock that all the school administrators had. If we were caught using a key lock or a combination lock other than the school bought ones, they would cut the lock off. In high school, we had the same types of lockers but students had to request them and they needed to have a justification on why they needed to have a locker. It was mostly if a student needed a locker for medical reasons and such.

My high school was only ten minutes away from Scranton so you’d think the school would be big but there were about 80 students in my graduating class, in fact the school was so small it would be a challenge to even be late to a class located on the opposite side of the school. I was in HS from 2013-2017 and lockers were def optional. I decided to get one. I went to it once that whole year. It was so out of the way from my classes. By the end of the school year i didn't even remember where it was to return my lock. I decided I didn't need one the next 3 years. In middle school lockers were mandatory as backpacks weren't allowed in classrooms for safety reasons. But each grade had their own floor for classes and lockers so it was much easier to get to them

For high school, Freshman year we got assigned lockers, but I guess after they kinda got phased out, but then my sophomore year almost everything went digital so not much point. When I saw shows and how they would present dodgeball it made me dread doing it in school, but then in Youth group we started playing dodgeball in the gym and I thought it was fun. I didn’t take gym in middle school until my 8th grade year, and dodgeball was what I looked forward to. However, I would say it was enjoyable because I had a few friends in the class. If I didn’t, I’d probably let someone just get me out first. 😂 Going back to tv shows, like Cookie, on tv, it always seemed like they targeted one person, but in reality (at least in my experience) you would go after your friends, then/or someone who is open to hit. Something I’m glad we didn’t have were rope climbs.

Yes, I have never actually seen the rope climb in a real life PE class, only in the movies.

Video timecode _ 15:17 this reminds me of my 12 year, Norcross High Staff, themselves, were bullying me, they started not letting me go to my classes and kept me in a "book room" that was really a janitorial closet

Can you react to a series called Mr.Young? It's a series about a teenager who becomes a high school teacher. The whole series is relevant to your channel, so starting with episode 1 would be neat.

Sweeney can be a bit much, but he has his good moments. Just wait until you get to the vice principal. The dodgeball thing, as someone who’s worked with kids in the past, the most important thing for me was no head shots.

Dodgeball should stay in school. They shouldn't get rid of it just because some "kids have negative emotions about it." Pretty much everything in our lives that's slightly uncomfortable can give people negative emotions. If we get rid of everything that's not universally liked, then there won't be much left. The whole point of school is to prepare kids for adult life, and often times adult life can feel like a bunch of dodgeballs hitting you from every angle. But, like the game, once you get hit you realize that the pain (if any) wasn't as intense as you thought it would be, and you're perfectly fine to play another round. What I'm trying to say is, we're not doing the youth any favors by shielding them from everything that they find scary. Especially if they've never even tried it before. Dodgeball is both physically and mentally stimulating. It teaches kids to use their reflexes, to strategize when navigating a "dangerous environment," and to face your fears. Besides, what about the kids who DO like dodgeball? Why should they have their fun taken away just because other kids don't like it?
