I agree, I think it is a good idea to teach kids about gun safety and how to properly use a gun, but that gun should always be kept away from the kids unless the parent is right there to supervise the child.

I was raised with guns and educated by my parents about the dangers and safety of them. My husband has guns, he took our son to gun safety classes and also taught him of the proper usage and how they could be dangerous. My son is 50 now, still goes hunting, as does his Dad, bow and arrow, muzzleloader and rifle. My son also took my grandson to gun safety classes. They go hunting together; my family never goes hunting alone and what they ‘get’ goes to the butcher and put in their freezer… my son DIL and his Dad cook and eat everything.

My son was shot and killed by a 14 year old who was planning a school shooting with two of his friends. Since he got arrested for shooting my son, he never got the chance to do the school shooting. When they searched his home, law enforcement found notebook full of plans to round up student with guns and force them into the gym. Others were planning to take the principal and teachers to the auditorium. They had a list of who they planned to execute. The first person they planned to open fire on was the high school principal. Since then, my daughter has gotten alerts on her phone that there was an active shooter at her daughters school. I saw it on the news live on TV. I couldn’t get to the school because I was in the middle of getting new brakes installed on my van. It was terrifying! Fortunately, no one at my granddaughters school was harmed, but the students were not allowed to leave the school for almost four hours. We didn’t know until after 6 pm if there were any injuries or fatalities. It felt like one of the longest days of our lives. I feel so sorry for the students, school staff, and families that are in this terrible situation. Sending prayers for all of them, as well as the first responders on the scene, and especially for the victims.

I live in the Nashville Tennessee area and there have been many shootings in parks, neighborhoods and apartment complexes this summer many resulting in death. My daughter is 25 and last weekend the stepson of an acquaintance of hers was shot and killed when he went to purchase a gun from another teen. The teen that killed him had been involved in a drug related robbery that ended in murder last fall. Somehow this boy wasn't locked up. The juvenile justice system here is totally broken 💔

I live near here, we locked down for an hour, and we know just about every thing that happened, so ill fill you win with the speculation A week ago a kid with a knife came to my street and threatened another kid, the second kids friend was the shooter, The kid has been speculated to have died. He was in critical condition when he was airlifted, so that makes sense. The kid was shot in the bathroom at 12:36. Everyone else is ok, prayers to the victim, i hope he will be alright.

I grew up there. Harford County was a safer area when I was a kid. I spent so much time in the joppafarm park. This is sad. I was a baltimore kid, but my friends lived out there. I'm so glad I moved my son away from MD in 03.

I can say that in the 80's kids got expelled often. Its a privlege to go to public school and if you cant behave you should get kicked out permanantly!!!

My husband and I were talking about the Georgia shooting yesterday & we literally said “…it’s like we’re waiting for this to happen to our schools” following a convo as to why I homeschool my kids. I live in joppatowne. 5 mins from the school. Aviation landed right behind my house at the elementary school my son would have attended had he gone to public schools. Thank goodness I chose otherwise!

I’m sorry but a lot of newscasters ‘glorify’ these shooters. Yes, it should be reported BUT there’s a limit. Other depressed/mentally ill young people watch this over and over; no attention, love, communication at home. No positive attention leads to negative attention. Parents… talk to your kids, spend time with them, monitor and restrict social media(yes, phones, too) Stay on top of your child’s emotions, behaviors, know who they’re hanging out with, go to PTA, talk to teachers, review their report cards with them. Times now are crucial for our young folks; they see ALL of this and you, as a parent, need to discuss this with them… PLEASE❤️🙏

I have a feeling that one day when our children are older and have children of their own... that online schooling will be very popular. If schools continue to have huge safety violations due to incompetant parents and the lack of consequences for their actions then parents in a decade or so won't have another option. These shooting situations are horrific and terrifying. Adults MUST lock up their firearms & ammunition. DUAL/TRIPLE sentencing will become the norm. The student who discharges the firearm will be charged and now the parent(s)/guardian(s) will also be charged if they knowlingly left access to the firearm.

How did kid get into school with gun? There's a breakdown somewhere. No way that it's not worth the cost to have metal detectors, locked doors, and armed security just for something like this. There's so much hate being spewed out in our country - and so much awful stuff being put into our kids minds at school! And we can thank the present administration in our White House for that!!! I pray for the young victim - and his family. God Bless them - and keep them safe. Any child who has anger issues, problems coping, etc needs to be in special classes in a therapy setting. Not in a public school.
