Күн бұрын

Greta Thunberg realized at a young age the lapse in what several climate experts were saying and in the actions that were being taken in society. The difference was so drastic in her opinion that she decided to take matters into her own hands. Greta is a 15-year-old Stockholm native who lives at home with her parents and sister Beata. She’s a 9th grader in Stockholm who enjoys spending her spare time riding Icelandic horses, spending time with her families two dogs, Moses and Roxy. She love animals and has a passion for books and science. At a young age, she became interested in the environment and convinced her family to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

As a Pacific islander i cried. My ancestors been living on these islands for thousands of years. I come from an island just a few feet above sea level. We rely 100% on what we grow. Our high tides are becoming more frequent & more damaging. The taro is our main staple food along with breadfruit & bananas, but now most of our taro patches are becoming salinated because salt water is seeping into our underground water lenses making our only main source of fresh water salty. Fewer fish is also a major issue. Long droughts & frequent storms killing people, livestock & destroying farms. I thank this young women for speaking on such issue. ❤️

To those who think "If the planet is doomed tf am I in school for?!", it is exactly what you're in school for. Not only because that would cultivate more scientists and engineers that are capable of understanding the issues and continuing to improve the solutions, but also because school would spread correct information which is the reason young kids know better than many older people and support Greta's point. So use her shouts as an inspiration to work harder, not as an excuse to be lazy or to blame everything on others. It is a progress, and it will only progress if everyone takes up responsibility they're capable of.

Fossil fuel, airplanes, plastic waste, polluting the sea, cutting down rainforests, Rich companies buying patents for alternative fuel or environmental power production then shutting them down. And. Much more That is the real problems, not blaming it on the cows and think that just because you stop eating meat, the world will be saved. You yourself need to do what Greta does, talk. As a gen Z like you, I fully understand your worries and frighten when thinking about the future of our world - the future where you and I have to live in for the next 50 years - because I always worried about it too. If I was there, I want to give you a hug. I know many people said that the world problems are more complicated and only a speech from an angry girl can't make any impacts. But from the bottom of my heart, I really appreciate your courage to speak up for our generation. You deserve more empathy rather than the criticism. Thanks to your speech, I've taken actions to save our environment by donating 10% of my monthly salary to cultivate trees in the National Parks in Vietnam and I promise to do this from now on to the rest of my life. Thank you for encouraging me to accomplish my duty with our Mother Earth!! 1000 applaud to you!!!

Even three years after her talking about this specific problem it is not enough done by the politicians to save these islanders. Scientists are still concerned about it and not just Greta’s generation but the whole society is still demonstrating every Friday and constantly making people aware of climate change and its consequences. I think it is good to remind each other about how this whole movement once started and follow Greta on her mission to not save the planet, but to try to change people's opinion. To keep doing that and pick up the conversation about it, I would like to ask people that are watching this video even 3, 4 or 5 years after it has been published, what you guys think could be done to make the change possible and what has been done that really improved our situation? I'm looking forward to a good conversation that will last for years.

There is barely any passion nor is there any indicator that it comes from her very heart but at the same time I understand it’s probably anxiety inducing to be on a stage in front of many strangers. However, as an autistic person myself with horrible anxiety and someone who has spent years growing up around countless different autistic individuals on all levels on the spectrum I assure you a lot of us would show obvious body language and clear signs that what we are saying comes from within as we are highly sensitive to many things despite the popular misconception that we are emotionless. This is not to say however that some people are not less empathetic or passionate as everyone from each and every group will be different but as a rule we are generally very emotionally sensitive. To add onto my statement about how autistic individuals have obvious body language nonverbal autistic individuals would especially need to use their bodies more so to communicate given the fact that it would be their best way of communicating and it has really helped me offer support to autistic people around me when needed. I hope this is enough of an explanation in supporting the other individuals argument about how Greta’s speech was not her own.

All the development is on one side, and our environment on other. Forests are the treasure we all should save and cherish. Those who agree.. DO SOMETHING FOR ENVIRONMENT! ● Stop using those plastic bags! U can carry a heavier mobile all time then u can carry a 5 g cloth bag too when going out eah time. Keep the pre existing plastic bags which u already have in your cars, scooty so that whenever u go out u can use them. ● Store that RO waste water and use to wash clothes or water plants, or fill in the washing machine or even mop the floor, For 1 litre of drinking water, 3 litres of waste watsr is produced. Those who are buikding new houses should connect the ro waste water to the toilets. ● Its high time we start recycling plastics friends! ● and the most often heard... plant a tree. Most of u cant due to lack of space or u r too busy to help save planet. U can at least donate to the organisations! A small amount of 100 rs. Also makes a difference! ● Put indoor plants in house instead of air purifiers if ur air is not that polluted. U can put snake plants which are approved by NASA and they dont beed fertislisers, and water is only needed once a month at maximum. They are a little expensive, but thats a one time investment! There are several other plants also which are of no maintenance. ● Dont think that caring for environment is uncool or who cares and stuff. This generation may die happily, but the coming generation will starve to death! ● EVERY EFFORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. Every drop of water saved adds a day to someone's life. Every tree planted adds to someone's breathe! PLS MAKE A DIFFERENCE..... WE NEED TO SAVE THIS PLANET! pls take this comment to the top. Amd spread the message.

Reducing emissions would have massive costs and do little good, because the natural CO2 absorption (by oceans, land etc) to return to preindustrial levels will take more than 100,000 years... So it seems to me, what we should be doing is invest in research for carbon sink technologies and other similar directions -- not bankrupt entire economies while yelling fire.

Little things you can do to help: Pull the cord out of the socket once you are done using the device. I.e If you’ve been charging your phone, pull the cord out when it’s fully charged. Lower your consumption of meat products. The absolute ideal is to get rid of all meat, but if you can’t because of various reasons then I recommend: Avoid eating red meat(lamb, beef, pork etc), and if you were to eat it, buy the meat from a local farm or check where the meat is from. Have a varied diet, make some days of your week vegetarian or vegan. Many schools in my country have at least one day of only vegan food. Avoid fast fashion. Fast fashion is what you call mass production of clothing, often in bad working environments and extremely bad for the climate. Two very huge fast fashion brands are H&M and Zara. When buying clothing check with the store/brand on where the clothes are produced. The best option to avoid fast fashion is to get hand-me-downs or shop at thrift stores, which actually seems to be gaining popularity with the younger generations. Buy only what you need. Think hardly before buying anything: Do I really need this? Is this really necessary or is it just because of aesthetic, self-satisfactory or popularity reasons? Stop using plasting bags and other single-use plastics. A plastic bag has an extremely short lifespan, mostly only lasting from the shop and then to your home. There are many other safer options than plastic bags such as regular bags, backpacks or tote bags(which also seem to be getting popular). Single-use plastics can range from anything such as plastic straws, cutlery, candy wrappers to plates. Replace that plastic straw with one made out of a reusable material like bamboo or metal, please reduce your consumption of candy and bring cutlery with you if needed. Public transport. As uncomfortable as it may be to sit on a bus or a train, it is a better option than to use a private car. More people sharing things means less production of said thing. Please add to this list if you want to, we need more alternatives to better ourselves and save the planet.
@regs3941
@regs3941 5 жыл бұрын
smellslikepetrichor My addings: drink tab water, if the quality is good enough. It's cheap and with very low emissions since it has not been transportes over far distances. try to wash your clothes with water as cold as possible. modern washing machines and detergents are able to clean your clothes anyway. use less detergents bc only small amounts are perfectly dosed. we are using too much of it already and harm water species by it. use water as cold as possible to do the cleaning or to wash your hands after going to the toilet. heating water needs a lot of energy and mostly is just not necessary. choose your next holiday in your area. why do we have to take exhausting long-distance flights to other continents just to sit in tourist-prepared areas, mostly exploiting the locals? often it's more relaxing to explore the wonderful little things just around you. maybe you have beautiful rivers or lakes for sailing or kanu driving or beautyful forests for travelling by foot. maybe there is a village next to yours with historic buildings? or when was the last time you visited an exhibitioun in a museum in your home town? it can be great if you try and low budget too!
