I’m watching this in 2024 and it brings a tear to my eye. So many Americans have lost sight of what America is supposed to be: a free world where everyone is welcome and we are free to live however we choose. No matter your race or religion or gender or political affiliation, we are all Americans and we are all human beings. America is the land of the free and the home of the brave. I’m proud to be an American! 🇺🇸

Absolutely. I recall back to this video every time people start talking so poorly about migrants. I can't imagine someone removing my entire family line if my great great grandfather had been deported instead of welcomed with open arms.

Very well said. I spoke with a women in Target yesterday who fussed about people living in America speaking a different language. She said they shoudln't be here. Of course they should! This is America. It is one of the things that make us great. At least it used to be.

@@averythomas7919 not true... reason why the founders wrote the way "we are indowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights". What I'm perceiving by your statement that slavery still was in place... the founders, Thomas Jefferson knew at the time as the current culture, the excepted custom of the day, he and others did debate in the 1st continental Congress the issue multiple times, discussion was heated.. BUT the slavery issue was going to clearly divide the congress and that divide would have stopped the creation of the country that fought and freed the slaves.. and they had to decide at the time of needing the southern colonies in the overall fight against the British that slavery was going to have to be fought later because it wasnt going to help them fight the bigger battle against the tyranny of Britain and for America's indepence.. Jefferson called slavery a "hideous blot" and put into the Constitution giving the pathway to freedom so when it was later fought, it would be easy for all to become free... it was fought in the Civil war and the bloodiest war that our country has ever seen. 622,000+ lives were lost to pay for the sin of slavery. Every other conflict combined almost equals the lives lost to free the slaves. 1 war that lasted 4 years cost almost as many lives as over 200 years of conflict that the US had been involved in, including the revolutionary war, WW1 and WW2... just to put it I to perspective for you. Here is some more informatk Ion on the founders and slavery www.crf-usa.org/black-history-month/the-constitution-and-slavery

Sadly my dear, it’s always been this way, even from the beginning. It is inherently American to be racist, as the British solidified that when they took human beings as slaves. Ironically when the British wanted to end slavery in the Americas, that’s when the colonizers forced them out. Slavery was a major catalyst for the American Revolution, despite what history says.

I will contest to that. America Rock songs, since they need to be compressed down to 3 minutes, glosses over a lot of important details. I’m Just a Bill and Great American Melting Pot are two that got it, the former because they actually nailed the process making a bill into a law correctly, and digestible for kids to understand, and the latter because it discussed the large immigration to America. Though in most cases they either overly simplify what happened or, in the case of Elbow Room, sugarcoats to a downright disrespectful degree.

And function as one country it doesn't matter what your culture is if you act inappropriately you should get punished

Its because people overlook things. Yes, immigrants were treated poorly and unfairly, but they still helped build this country to what it is to this day and despite the harsh treatment they never gave up on their dreams. To me, that is what America is about and that is something we should celebrate every 4th of July. Anyone who denies this is not a true American, people like Trump and the racists that run the GOP.

@@jettthewolf887 Your comment was good until the last unfortunate line. It's bizarre when people buy into what one group tells them so vehemently that they abandon discernment and don't bother to really look into things. DT is not only not racist, he has always hired people of all color, for all positions in his business life, and then during presidency. Biden and this administration target position candidates BASED on their skin color. Racist much? Go back and review history to learn who the real racists are fella.

It used to play on TV on Saturday mornings, which was traditionally when kids' cartoons came on. I don't remember which network - maybe ABC? Along with a lot of the '70s TV programming for kids, I do think it was aimed at casting immigration in a positive light, and helping kids not hate each other because of differences. The 1960's had seen a lot of hatred and violence and loss of hope; the goal was, I think, to press a restart button in some ways. Some of this particular film and song looks kind of insensitive today, but at the time, it was probably progressive. All I know is, I loved it as a kid and it did feed my desire to have friends from all over the world.

Crap no... They threw out the melting pot and gave us the tossed salad instead. Trump didn't do that, liberal bullsh*t did.

Considering that now the idea of "the great american melting pot" is considered to be "racist" by progs (much in the same vain as the idea of being colorblind) for being "culturally incensetive" and "imperialistic" this comment doesen't seem to have age that well.. 🤡

An American Tail is better than this song, it tells the horrors of immigration in the 1800s

perliva, it is not, this a song about race mixing. They’re saying it doesn’t matter what country you’re from, you can live here.

perliva, doesn’t race mixing mean it doesn’t matter what race someone is, you don’t have to separate people because of their race?
