My first time hearing this one. I clearly remember hearing Schoolly D when I was like 6 years old. My big brother was playing his Saturday Night cassette in his car. So this song is 2 years before that album was released. I don't know how far his first records were getting distributed back then but I definitely can see who Too Short, Ice T & Eazy-E lyrics were influenced by. Ice T did say he was listening to Schoolly D and was basically inspired.

Ice -T has admitted that he basically took the rhyme style from this song to write 6 in the Morning, so Schoolly D deserves credit for inspiration. But PSK and Gangster Boogie are NOT a gangsta rap songs. Go listen to 6 in the Morning....also go listen to Paul Revere by the Beastie Boys, both those songs were more gangster than anything Schoolly D put out.

i saw schooly d live in birmingham england 1986 supporting big audio dynamite....they were great...as i remember they got a rough ride when they hit the stage...at one point the young turntablist got a can of "red stripe! larger straight on the forehead! not good! if it wasnt for his baseball hat the guy would of been knocked out cold...but they fought on in style and tore the stage with some mighty beats..n lyrics...good memories for me.
