Teams like ireland and England always seem to get a lot better at u20s but it's actually because sa, nz and aus etc have players who r on average 6months older and further ahead in their development at u18s and 19s due to the schooling schedules but this evens out at u20s when they have all left school.

It's the usual problem with this age group, the teams are actually from different age groups. The South African school year runs jan -dec and this event comes after Craven week at the end of their u18 season. SA players had to be U18 on the 1st of January. For the Northern Hemisphere teams, this event comes before the start of their u18 season, which starts in September, the qualification for them is u18 in the 1st of September. At this age giving almost a full year away is too much.

@@SamuelStevenOglehe’s right, it’s actually the same thing that happens when the english teams toured South Africa a couple years back during the schools festival when it was held in South Africa. But tbf it’s practically unavoidable without clashing with the rugby calendars in both hemispheres.

It is a pleasure to read a comment which popints out something that, while obvious, is overlooked. A similarr argiument, applies to the schools international tournament held in December. The SA schools are at huge disadvantage , both because the tourney cones just aftwer the matric exams, eliminating a large fraction of the first string. The team thart represented Grey College in 2022 had only about 3 starters who were coupled with several U16's from 2022, even although they wer still u16 until the end of 22, Amaxingly this rag tag mob made it to the final where they lost to Hamilton in a fairly close game. ///////the Hanilton players looked better , but the GRey team looked nothing like their team from 2022.
@neill392
@neill392 5 ай бұрын
@@daviddorfan9023 The thing about the schools, is that it applies a common age qualification. so whilst the Saffa teams would't be their 1st choice players, they are the same age as the teams they play.

English kids play rugby at school ? The game was invented at an English school . Yes they can play soccer too if they want and so what ? What is the correlation you are trying to make with a Bok team playing in a mini invitational u18 tournament with success of the Boks at the RWC? It isn’t even an WR official tournament it’s a school organised tournament. . How too if there is no school rugby in England how did they manage to win the U 20 RWC this year in South Africa ?

@@patrickchilds2987 I went to my kids schools In Dorset , and offered free rugby coaching. They ask me for qualifications for rugby. I laughed at them, said your certificates do not qualify rugby training for kids: England do not know how to teach kids. All the clubs I went to , it was pure embarrassment. The worst. Now I am back in Africa, where my kids kids learn the right way

@knowmean I can't speak for your experience. I also coached after I stopped playing and went the coaching course which is a good course . Teaching school level rugby or junior club whilst to another ex player might seem rudimentary but depending on the level you are at it's not embarrassing at all. Maybe it qax the school maybe they think highly of you, who knows That said if your kids are being coached better in SA that's a goid outcome .

@@patrickchilds2987 I have just left the uk after been there 22 years. I offered free rugby coaching at my young kids school. They ask for qualifications/certs. I told them your qualifications are worthless as all the clubs I been to , to witness how they teach kids, it’s a joke. Uk do not know how to teach kids properly, so you certs are worthless. I have now moved my kids to SA so they can be taught correctly.
