Afghanistan is becoming increasingly dangerous. More and more international aid workers are withdrawing from the country.
Development aid workers Peter and Annemarie Schwittek have been living in Afghanistan for decades. The German couple began establishing schools for girls in the country more than 20 years ago. But now their path breaking project is in peril. Even before the fall of the Taliban, the international community made education and schools for girls in Afghanistan a priority. But these international efforts have faltered in recent years. Today Afghanistan is facing a catastrophic security situation. Even as many aid workers have left the country, a few have risked their lives to remain - among them Peter and Annemarie Schwitteck. Their NGO, called OFARIN - an acronym that means ‘well done!’ in Farsi - began establishing schools for girls in the country in 1998. By working with local mullahs in their school projects, they have been able to secure the support of the population. At Abu Bakr Siddique mosque in Kabul, the Quran is put away twice a day, and school books are brought out. Then school lessons are held for 90 minutes at a time. Girls and boys are taught separately, as is the custom in Afghanistan. Now OFARIN’s most important sponsor, the Catholic relief organization Misereor, has stopped funding the project due to security concerns. In early 2017, OFARIN was providing an education to some 9000 young students, more than half of them girls. It also offered employment and a livelihood to some 500 teachers, many of whom are former students. Since then, contributions from private foundations and donors have allowed OFERIN to continue running schools for some 5000 girls and boys. However, this funding is only assured through March 2019. For Peter and Annemarie Schwitteck, giving up is inconceivable.

I’m very grateful Archana on behalf of the Afghan people for your country’s contributions in our educational development! I cordially appreciate your kind words and positive attitude toward our destitute and undereducated people! Unfortunately we still have to endure and struggle with educational challenges to this day!

It is very sad that some would restrict access to knowledge. This is a good thing that these young women can gain an education. Amen.

Afganistan and Its people are beautiful....Sadly War on terror did no justics to this country :( I think the only way to stop the ongoing wars in afganistan is to stop all the foreign invasions and spreading education.I hope by the grace of Allah(God) one day the people of afganistan will get to see their country rise again. Great documentary

I do agree with you , but the current budget is somehow redirected back to US by paying their workers and curruption ( there is some medium us related organization which hire the local with low salary and get the rest of their standard salary for the organization ) this is first point. And this is the situation which we have because of US payment to the Talibans back to fight Russia there . We are losing our life , disrespected in our home and outside. Just we simply paid alot of life for the US competition with Russia in our Homeland.

When I looked at the video and I was really horrified by these people, especially from men who behave worse than animals. Even for 23 minutes it was shown that a motorcycle that smokes and poisons the air is toxic after riding ... These men, they have not learned anything and what they can teach their children and even more so women ...😂🤣😅😂🤣😅🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
