Our first sailing season as the new owners of the schooner Pegasus.
Even though we are the current owners of Pegasus we believe one does not own a classic wooden boat but instead we are her current stewards taking care of her and maintaining her heritage until the time comes when we pass her onto the next steward that steps forward to provide her with the dedication required of her pedigree and history.
Her new home port of Big Tancook Island gives us unlimited access to all of Mahone Bay, the 365 islands within the bay and the endless sea that lies beyond Tancook Island.
The summer of 2022 was a short sailing season for Pegasus after a mid June launch and hurricane Fiona showing up mid September and interrupting what should have been some fine September sailing.
The nautical miles we did sail onboard Pegasus were filled with finding out her good habits and learning the ways in which she needs to be handled, sharing her with friends, competing in our first schooner race and winning, along with wooden boat maintenance and upgrades.
All of this is a labour of love which is the price of admission for the honour and pride of classic wooden boat ownership. We are also proud members of the Nova Scotia Schooner Association.

What a slice of sailing heaven this video represents. Looked like little Maggie wanted to try her paw at the helm and Pegasus wanted to go play with Bluenose in all her glory. Beautiful sailing family. God Bless!

I miss Nova Scotia ! I wish there had been just a minute or two of just the sea sound going by the boat. Beautiful boat! Nothing better than a traditional wood boat! Photography and editing were excellent.

OMG. Near perfection sailing video. ❤ Gorgeous classic wooden boat. ❤ Beautiful ocean/skyscape timelapses. ❤ Good calming music (and no talking heads. 👍🏻). NS Is so pretty.! Very similar to Maine coast where our family spent every vacation on Mt. Desert Isl/Acadia N.P. Is that the same Windjammer Blue Nose? When is the schooner races? Donyou criuse to Maine coast?

Pegasus was built in 1971 by Jimmy Smith located in Dublin Shore, Nova Scotia. The father of the current commodore of the Nova Scotia Schooner Association commissioned her to be built and sailed on Pegasus when he was a child and is actually the person that named her. Years later while shopping for a schooner he found Pegasus and bought her, sailed her for many years. A famous Nova Scotia ship wright by the name of Richard Rhodenizer then became her steward for the next 16 years doing a major refit and redesign giving Pegasus much more deck space and a larger cabin below decks. We bought Pegasus on Valentines day 2022 and have just completed our first season sailing her in Mahone Bay this past summer. Her new home port is Big Tancook Island and I gathered up a crew of experienced sailors on the island and we sailed to the town of Mahone Bay to watch the schooner races but ended up competing in the race back to Tancook Island and returning to the town of Mahone Bay. We won first place in the days race and the entire crew was thrilled. More sailing, more racing and more adventures in the summer of 2023.

Pegasus was built in 1971 by Jimmy Smith in Dublin shore, Nova Scotia. Pegasus had a major refit done by the previous owner who is a master shipwright. He did an amazing job of installing a new engine and reworking the entire interior and hull. Much more efficient use of space now and reliable for many more years into the future.

A beautiful boat. But what does your flag mean?
@wingman1100
@wingman1100 2 жыл бұрын
The flag flying off the stern is the Nova Scotia provincial flag. Since Nova Scotia translates to New Scotland the flag is the same as the Scottish flag but with the colours reversed.
