Nice, this recording has always been my favorite of the piece! Beautiful rubato, clear phrasing of the melody, big climax, still haven't found anyone who does it beter!

I listened to this and the Hamelin performance last night, and honestly I just love how much Katsaris pours into this interpretation. His voicing is immaculate, and yes all of the characteristics you’ve mentioned are at the their peak in this performance :)

@@Varooooooom They're both good, but I perhaps marginally like Hamelin better . It has a slightly more ethereal, other-worldly luminosity, to me - but it is unfortunately marred by a mistake he made near the end (at least in the version I heard - I don't know if he did it more than once), where a C-sharp anomalously mingles with all the B-flat-major arpeggios. (When I mentioned this on an on-line music-oriented forum, someone else suggested that he might have done it deliberately to show that even he can make a mistake - but I don't believe that is likely. I never heard of any performer deliberately spoiling a performance like that to make some kind of a point.)

Katsaris is a fine pianist and this is an interesting version, but I think Valerie Tryon's masterful control of the outer parts and straight interpretation trumps this. Worth listening to if you've not heard it.

I’ve learned playing this beautiful piece at age 8 which than lead me to good opportunities to play at church’s and universities and more!
