Serenade (Ständchen), by Schubert. Written two years before his death, this work is a perfect example of the melancholic writing Schubert was so well known for. Being one of his many lieder (in English, "songs", though today we associate the word 'lied' more with art songs), this piece was originally written for voice and piano (lyrics below), but who better than Liszt to create a beautiful piano arrangement. With this video we also introduce another pianist to the channel - SPQ! Hope you enjoy the piece and have an excellent Monday ♥ Silently my songs beg Through the night to you; Down into the quiet grove, Darling, come to me! Whispering, slim treetops rustle In the moonlight; The hostile eavesdropper's ear maid, fear not Do you hear the Nightingales singing? Oh! they implore you, With the sounds of sweet laments They Plead for me. They understand the bosom's longing, Know love's pain, Stirring with their silvery tones Every soft heart. Let them also stir your breast, Darling, listen to me! Trembling I awaited you. Come, make me happy! Translated by @Achampnator

Though the video is still claimed even though the piece is completely in the public domain - so time to dispute once more, but at least you can all finally watch the video. @@tigerboom9030 consolation, although playable, is harder than this. Then skipping not well-known pieces, it gets to Liebestraum. And then Liszt really shows off his virtuoso side, especially in songs with "No. 4" next to their title, such as Mazeppa (Trans. Etude no 4) and Paganini Etude No. 4 (1838 version).

@Tiger Boom Woah the polyrhythms in Consolation No.3 are definitely harder than this
@xxepic_swag_gamingxx52384 жыл бұрын
It shares its difficulty with Chopin's Waltz B 150; It is not hard to play, but it's hard to make it sound nice the way Kissin or Rousseau played it. Where in Chopin's Waltz, you'll find yourself perpetually perfecting the tempo, here it is the echo that accompanies the main melody in the second half of the piece. I still can't get it *just* right, and I studied this piece 5 months ago.
@ayhamshaheed77404 жыл бұрын
Tiger Boom consolation is actually way harder than liebestraum 3. At least, that’s how it is for me. Getting the polyrhythms right is the most annoying thing ever. Edit: Idk what i was on about lol, it's nowhere near as difficult. The polyrhythms are difficult for a week or so, but once you're brain understands them its plain sailing from there; its more mental gymnastics than technical, which are far easier to overcome and just requires you to think differently. Liebestraum on the other hand, is a lot more technical and is overall far more difficult what with the cadenzas (which took me months to get right, especially the first one which i still cant do perfectly after 2 years!!), the octave leaps, and the difficulty in isolating the melody during certain passages.

this piece gives me such a sublime but dark feeling at the same time, it's weird, it's hard to explain, it feels like I'm watching the starry night while thinking of the good times that have passed so quickly, it feels like nostalgia, it feels very blissful and then it hits you with so many feelings that you never can explain, or put into words, not to mention how beautifully you played it, thank you for this

@irodragon71842 жыл бұрын
@@noonehere0987 so is songs without words called song even though it has no words or was intended to have them. I'm more of the person who thinks if it has no lyrics in the current arrangement being played it's not called a song just an arrangement of one. I believe it is called a piece. The definition of song is "a short poem or other set of words set to music or meant to be sung." It isn't words set to music it's just the music. Only when words are added is it a song. In short SEMANTICS.

This just cuts to your soul, exquisitely beautiful and at the same time deeply melancholic. The pacing, the tempo, is near perfect as many other versions are a bit too fast for a piece this melancholic it needs to be played as this is played. Staggering to think this is nearly 200 years old.
