Strange to say, but the Beaux Arts Trio plays everything similarly... the same technique, the same together ensemble playing, the same sensitivity, attention to composer markings... yet always captures the latter's unique personality & spirit. I have heard many piano trios (just watched one on Stingray Classics performing this v trio), but none that excel as these three musicians do. I love their Haydn, Mozart & Schumann too.

All instruments are very well balanced in this recording. Bravo! I've heard some recordings in which the cello was overtaken by violin and piano, or some in which both violin and cello were overtaken by the piano. (with overtaken, I mean the volume)

The above note on first performance is incorrect. The Trio was first performed on 26 December 1827 at the Vienna Musikverein. The second performance was on 26 March 1828 at the same place, in Schubert's only public concert.

I believe the fiddle flubs his entrance when he first gets the melody. Just plays the wrong notes. Strange they didnt retake that.

Uh……which melody? Which movement? Can you give a timing so we can know exactly where in the piece you are talking about?? I have listened to this recording literally hundreds of times over the years (it’s my favorite performance of my favorite piece of music in any genre) and I don’t think I’ve heard a flubbed violin entrance anywhere.

Yeah its measure 41 of the andante con moto movement. It seems like he arrived at that measure early and extended the first e flat of his melody an eighth note or so to make up the time. Also the video calls it andante un poco mossa but it’s a very famous andante con moto. Im not sure where he gets that tempo notation. 👍👍 Also good taste on being your fav. This is the one 👌👌👌
