So again, big thanks to Schulte for working with us and allowing us to to use their disc harrow! I am no "pro harrow" kinda of guy nor do I claim to have much experience in that regard, but I definitely liked the job it was doing today. 🙂

Organic matter also helps with water retention as well. I think that's one of the reasons why the South Farm has poor yields, that soil has next to no organic mass.

I understand the challenges with phone recording; I have seen a few people get a gimbel that would help with phone setup to record. The disk harrow is interesting, and it is also fascinating that you need to break the stubble stands to prevent next year's yields; I watch Cole the Cornstar, and he has been experimenting with doing soil turnover to see how that process affects his yields. By sheer accident, they cleaned up waterways and found that doing that resulted in significantly higher crop yields than doing zero till.

Hi Mike, This Disc Harrow form Schulte we have had on our farm now for 5 seasons. Its amazing and the need for the soil is super. We try to follow the combines with it and have done every acre in the fall Except last year and this year where we have a few acres left because snow came easrly. The acres not done last year we finished infront of the air seeder this yeare and the crop performed as well as the fall acres done. We think that any moisture that falls is captured by the lose soil more than just behind a heavy harrow. We don't farm that far from you and our fields are of similar terrain. For the machine having over 50,000 A on it there is not too significant wear We have stones !

Here in Argentina no-till is the rule. You hear all the "specialists" talking about not disturbing the soil, avoid tillage to avoid erosion, etc. This train of thought has dominated our system for over 20 years now. But watching on YT the videos of USA, you guys do exactly the opposite! So I would like to understand from your side why tillage is so frequent and if the cost of fuel and the need for tillage tools does not affect your bottom line. Thanks!
@jb-vz4wb
@jb-vz4wb 6 ай бұрын
I often wonder that too. On the surface it seems yields with tillage are higher in the US but Im not sure. I read recently that the freeze thaw cycle helps break up compaction in Canadian soil. I am a non farmer looking to start a hobby farm and do no till. What practices do you use in Argentina that are beneficial?
