The problem with any stationary bike is the main bearings. It doesn't matter the machine the main bearings that the crankshaft (pedals are attached to this using the crank arms) supports do wear out and need replacing. This can be expensive or do it yourself as I did on my IC4 at around 9,000 miles for a cost of $45 dollars! I did the work and I can't say how difficult it would be on other machines. I bought my ic4 in 2020 and just replaced the main crank bearings Nov. 2023.

Got lucky and found one at a close Dicks Sporting Goods about 45 minutes away about a month ago. Was only one they had left. Super easy to install by watching a KZbin video with step by step instructions and took less than an hour. So far I love it. I had ordered a Bowflex C6 same as this bike and made by same company and was going to be 3 months before delivery when found this I cancelled the order. My wife bought a recumbent bike from Dicks a few months back but I really don’t care for it much.

That design flaw that you mentioned are the magnets for the resistance. It's supposed to be like that. There are 2 magnets that get closer and further from the flywheel to determine the resistance, so messing with those components could be a costly mistake.

I originally bought my wife the peloton and when I read that they originally sold the bike for $1200 and that they basically doubled the price because when the consumer pays more money they think they are getting a better product I returned it. My wife was upset with me but I told her we can save a lot of money by buying another bike and using the app. I bought the ic4 and she is in love with me again. We have a Chromecast on the tv with a surround sound and it’s like your in a studio. The majority of the time she uses air pods. The build quality is great and so far so good.

Nice to not be in the doghouse 🤪! While the Peloton does feature a superior bottom bracket to the IC4, this bike just makes more sense when thinking about the overall cost (btw not even the updated Peloton has Fore & Aft adjustments for the bars). The IC4 + nice big screen + surround sound = an awesome time!

Thanks for the honest and sincere review that went beyond opening the box and setting up the bike. Longterm concerns were always in the back of my mind and slowed down my placing an order for the Schwinn. With that said, I think I’ll stretch for the Concept 2 BikeERG. I’m hearing great things about this company which is known for making some of the best rowing machines available. They recently entered the stationary bike arena and the reviews of their bike are phenomenal, although the bike is too new to have longterm reviews. The Concept 2 rowers have been around for years and many collegiate and pro rowers use them. Thanks again and keep up the great work.

I've had my IC4 for about 2.5 months and I find it to be an awesome experience! I agree that the water bottle holders are not in the best position and I usually keep my bottles on a table within arm's reach and I wish the usb port was on the top of the computer rather than on the right lower part because when I have something plugged in the cable interferes with me placing my hands on the handlebar bar right next to the computer. Great Video! I have a Bowflex c6 on order and am trying to decide on what app(s) to use with it. I am having a hard time finding any information on how the data from the bike does (or does not) integrate with the app. Let's say I am running Fulgaz on an AppleTV 4K (for example)...what does the app pick up; cadence? resistance? speed? heart rate from the arm strap? Since the bike has no power meter as such, does the app calculate "virtual watts" from data that is available? I have the same questions for TrainerRoad, Sufferfest etc. All the Yahoo videos I can find on these training-focused apps seem to assume you will be using a smart trainer like wahoo. Long preamble, but my questions boils down to, would you be willing to do an instructional video on these questions, please!! Such information on how to use training-focused apps with a "spin"-type bike would be very much appreciated!! Thanks.
@preludedriven4 жыл бұрын
Great question! You are correct that this bike does not have an actual power meter, but it does have perceived wattage. A bit inaccurate and most noticeable on both the lower end and higher end of the spectrum. I've never used FulGaz, but have used RGT, Zwift, Sufferfest and the cadence and wattage does transmit to the app. The speed is calculated by these apps based on watts and terrain/course.

Is there a spin bike where you don't have to lean forward like bikers do? Can I adjust handles so I can seat in a more upright position when biking? I have 2 buldging disk in my back so I would like to be able to adjust seat and hundles where I can keep back straight and with good posture while spinning. Looks uncomfortable to use bike leaning forward with head almost touching handles like I have seen people do and also arching back while placing hands on handles?? also does bottom gets very sore and painfully after spinning workout, specially doing it every day or every other day for 30-40 min?? I been trying to decide between this and echo rogue airdyne bike to use at home for hitt and maybe long biking workouts... Bike looks pretty cool and I know it will give me a good workout, however I don't know if Iam gonna a like just seating there pedaling for 30- 40 min.. I lift 3x a week and every other day 2x a week I do 30 min hitt workouts.. Battle rope, kettle bell, punching bag, ply box, airdyne etc, etc... I always do 40sec on 20 off with a variety of exercises for 30-35 min.. Don't know if the spinn bike will fit in my workouts or if I really need it? Maybe if I don't feel like doing hitt I can jump on the spin bike and do a peloton workout or something like that. Do you think spin bike is for people that don't like doing hit workouts or people that don't have any other equipment or maybe they just like biking?? @preludedriven4 жыл бұрын
Yes, lots of long/hard workouts can be pretty brutal on your knees (and possibly hips) overtime if the Q-Factor is significantly too wide. The width you should choose is dependent on the width of your hips, but generally around a 160mm-170mm Q-Factor is good for most people.

With respect to the resistance knob, does yours turn freely OR does it have sort of catch points where you have to turn it with a little more force to increase or decrease the resistance? I can’t tell if this is intentional or a flaw with my bike. Still functions fine, but and I’m able to reach the full spectrum of resistance from 0-100. Thanks for the great review. I do love the bike and feel like a made an excellent decision 2 months in.

The resistance knob should spin freely without any catch points or force. Sounds like the threads may be damaged and I would inspect them closely. If they are damaged, you should give Nautilus a call about a replacement part, otherwise try adding a small amount of grease to the threads and wipe off the excess.

You need to spend more time learning about magnetic resistance bikes. There should be a screw that adjusts the height or tensile of the magnet. Did you clean your fly wheel? Every time you use your bike, you should clean off the residue. I noticed your wheel is warped. It's really easy to see. Handle bars. Most people break their bars because they don't stand up properly. Instead, they pull on the bars to lift up. That puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the mechanics. I have seen this before. No wonder they fail. You have to learn to push yourself up with your legs.

They really did not engineer these bikes too well! Got on one at Dicks Sporting goods and just chuckled at the fit and finish in comparison to a well built spin bike. 1)The scrapping at high rpm/low torque is probably due to belt tension. All belts stretch and the bike was not designed with a hydraulic tensioner to account for this, so it has to be checked monthly (especially after break in). The axle nuts and tension adjustment nuts on each side of the axle is what you access to tighten the belt. Simple and important to understand if you take your time and read the manual and learn it is part of maintenance. 2) The resistance is just a caliper with magnets. If the flywheel is not freely rotating at 0, the caliper is set to low. The adjustment should be directly above the caliper via cable or thread/nuts. 3) The seat post is what got me at the store. If you pull the whole seat post stem out of the frame (with plastic piece still on) and add a few layers of duct tape at the base it should tighten up the slop. The tolerances in the post/frame are rather generous and the plastic piece at the top of the frame was very poorly designed. It is sad this market is trending to tech over a quality design. Hope this helps!! Loved the video

There is a huge problem with the cables on these bikes , they are all failing. We have two of them and both cables went the same time. Took them 3 months to send new ones, and you have to take a part the entire machine and pull the circuit board and burn them on . There is no video on how to do it. Both my bikes are under warranty so we were told someone would come out and install them but no one showed, We have over 10 Appointments set thus far and every week they are cancelled, Garbage in and out , how I wish I would have got the Peloton . So update tech support called and had me try to install myself, once you get the cable in place now you have to Calibrate the machine using special codes and you only get 3 Tries or the Computer shuts down and Bow Flex has to replace the Computer Screen. Now Bow Flex is telling everyone that the there is Tier 3 Level Tech that needs to come out to replace it and 6 months latter both are Bikes are Bricked. If you call them today they have some NEW FEED on the Phone that tells of some UPDATE that happened in there Ware House on the housings that bricked all the controllers,, Its a Disaster. Please make a video showing how to install the new cable as i have 19 cables they have sent now . from Bow Flex / Schwinn. as they come from the tech center. Not only that each bike is completely different as far as cadence goes, my 50 cadence is on 1 bike and the other bike is only 15 , The calories that show up on the Peloton app do not match up at all with the Cals on the bowflex computer. My computer is 1000 cals for 45 min ride and my other bow flex is 300 . Over 30 phone calls to Bow Flex with more coming tomorrow and each time I learn some more horrors of the companies. At this point its a mess and no one is coming to help. But I got lots of cables with pulley tools they sent with it but its impossible to install as I am not a welder my any means .

Have had the IC4 for about a year now. Overall, a really nice bike . . . the pedals, however, are pieces of crap. The clip one one pedal had clear metal fatigue and simply sheared off. Replaced mine with Shimano . . . nothing but a run-around from Schwinn despite a 5 year protection plan purchased with the bike. I would say save your money on the protection plan purchase because Schwinn is going to short change you and pay out or replace . . . NOTHING! At least, if my experience is typical.
@preludedriven3 жыл бұрын
Oh no, sorry to hear that! I didn't experience any issues with my pedals, but when I did call customer service to replace my handlebars and device holder, they made it so simple! I guess it depends on what kind of mood they are in smh. Shimano pedals are the best!
@janicewhite55194 жыл бұрын
I found the review really helpful and purchased the IC4. It is a high quality bike, very easy to assemble. Female vs Male body geometry did not come up. Women tend to have more height in their legs; men in their torsos. I have long legs. There is no way to adjust the bike where I’m not at risk of hitting the water bottles. I can manage around it, but I have to be mindful when I move to standing rides. I expect this isn’t an issue for men, the seat and handlebar adjustments would have the handles farther back and out of the way. Not an option to move the handlebars up or away and ride comfortably when seated. My shirt torso would be too stretched out. Still happy, but makes the water bottle feature a drawback iso a plus.

Excellent point! Actually, both my wife and I had our knees hitting the water bottles, but my wife experienced it much more than I did. . Indoor cycling is a very low-impact exercise, which will save your joints from damage in the long run. And because it's indoor, it saves you from commuting to bike trails and also is safer than riding your bike around things like cars or dangerous terrain. As long as you balance your cycling with weight training, you won't lose muscle mass.

As someone who rides at SoulCycle three times a week, I can tell you that while this bike is a great value it doesn’t compare. I I don’t feel that it’s sturdy or solid. The onboard computer interface is poorly executed. I only ride when there’s no other workout available as it’s belongs to a family member. The Schwinn is better than nothing, but I don’t enjoy the ride on this bike. From a monetary perspective it may be perceived as a better value but you get what you pay for.

Agreed! My wife and I are serious cyclists (both indoor and outdoor) and I saw the shortcomings of this bike after some strenuous hours during a 3 month period. I really only disliked the RPM layout on the console, but the other data metrics seemed fine IMO. The bike felt a bit wobbly on hardwood, but felt much better on a mat. That being said, it's still a great buy for the average person looking to get a home workout for those not so serious about it (and don't have around $3K to spend) (....and better than most bikes in the sub $900 range).
