So helpful! I am in the process of upgrading my 2016 model to electric and am quickly realizing how many diy videos deal exclusively with mountain and road frame bikes and how really "unique" the Meridian is 😆!

Thank you so much for making your videos! I just got one of these from a very nice lady in my community, I'm planning on converting it to electric, but it the pad on the rear brake is worn all the way through to the metal. Can you replace the pad? Or do you have to replace the entire brake assembly?

I'm not an expert, but it appears they only sell a replacement kit. I found a kit on Amazon for $20.00. Hope this helps. www.amazon.com/AlveyTech-Bicycle-Assembly-Schwinn-Meridian/dp/B01GOYG6KS

What are the two screws for on the outside radius of the drum?
@vidcreations Жыл бұрын
I have not worked on the brake yet, but this is a guess by looking at the replacement brake on Amazon. It looks like adjustment screws for keeping the brake band true. If replacing the brake band, or if it gets worn in a spot, it looks like you can adjust in and out to keep the clearance even all around the brake band and drum.

I wondered about those too.

I bought an old used Meridian trike. Total rebuild. Back brake assembly should be here tomorrow. Lol. I notice there's never been a front brake. No hole or bosses. Ill need to figure it out.

Is there anything I can do for the double coaster to loosen up? It’s a little hard to pedal. It’s a single speed
@vidcreations11 ай бұрын
I have never heard of a double coaster brake. On this, and all the three wheel bikes that I know of, have either a band brake, like this bike, or a disc brake. If you are having trouble pedaling, block up the drive wheel. Then rotate the pedals with your hand. If you feel any stiffness or binding it could be a tight chain or the axle may be binding. If you can rotate the pedals with your hand, there is no problem with the bike.

Hi James, do you know if the 2 screws on the outer ring need to be tightened or loosened to adjust the actual drum part? I pulled the slack and there is good brake leverage but nothing is happening still. The 1st 2 trikes i assembled worked fine, press the lever slow stop and then the drum pressure would decrease.

Stand on the right hand side of the bike. Squeeze the brake handle and look at the brake drum. You should see the brake lining closing on the drum. If the lining is not moving, the brake cable is not adjusted tight enough, or the cable stop is not tight enough and the cable is sliding through the cable stop. If the brake lining is closing on the brake drum, it may need adjusted tighter or the lining may be glazed and not stopping the bike when the brake is applied.

@@vidcreations I ended up installing a washer for the mounting plate so it maintains a 90 degree angle to provide more leverage when the cable is being pulled. This is helping a little bit. I’ll check the cable tension and see if brake drum/band is aligning as well, thank you.

As far as you know, do these brakes wear out? I've got a lot of squealing going on when I engage the brake...I have looked and see some pad still there.
@vidcreations2 жыл бұрын
It has been my experience that it would take a lot of use to wear the bake brakes out. These brakes squeal all the time, even when new. You may want to take 80 grit sand paper and scuff up both the brake shoe and the drum, but I doubt it will make a difference. Also, the front brake has much more stopping power and is what I suggest to use in conjunction with the bake brake.

This brake design sucks! Coaster or disc would be much better.
