Beautiful movie. The scene where the family of connected actors gets back to their devices was deep, and the ending made me feel so uneasy and sad... I think the mom will buy that damn microchip for the son and he'll be stuck forever. The young actor did a really good job 👏👏

I've been watching countless DUST releases and I believe this particular title has some very serious audio mastering issues, at one point requiring to turn up the volume quite loud and right after such it's time for the opposite. Shame, otherwise a good film.

As frequent DUST viewer and subscriber, and as a deaf viewer as well, without subtitles I have no idea what is going on. I'm assuming everyone can read minds, but I can't.

Oof, yeah this is a bad one for no subtitles. Funny you mention mind-reading, because the computer system the characters are connected to does literally that. It runs their lives and penalizes deviations from its script, which includes the teacher scene where the boy receives a refresh on indoctrination. The boy tries to reject the system, idolizing the family he spies on while thinking they're a real, un-"connected" family until realizing they're performing some kind of play, and use the system like everyone else. The boy wanted to go to a real park for his birthday, but the parents reject it for a virtual one. He later tries to get his mother to listen to him, but she repeats the system's dogma. The final system message is thankfully text on the screen, and might make more sense to you now. As an autistic person who has trouble differentiating some sound combinations in certain orders (some sentences are fine, some not), poor video sound quality and lack of subtitles is bad for me too. I got most of what was said without blaring my ears off, but I know I missed bits.

A lot of these videos are like this. Seems like the youtube compression algorithm amplifies music over voice. This has been the situation for years. How difficult can it be to re-mix the audio these days, when we used to do it with mechanical slider switches. My hearing is just fine and the ad servers think I'm partially deaf or something because i use CC and also watch foreign films with translation CC. Makes one wonder how much else these algorithms have wrong.

@@cherylyates9845 It's really a scattershot these days. We watched the fine German series "Charité" and used the subtitles for my wife (I understand spoken German fairly well). There was a funny juxtaposition of subtites and audio when one character's line indicating that some reseach was "mumbo-jumbo," while the spoken German was "hocus-pocus." 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

If you read all of sustainable development for 2030 on the UN website they talk about needing to rewrite laws for a new classification of human beings. Human beings with certain mechanical and direct digital interfaces. I imagine workers who work like machines not by ability but out of fear for punishments for not making the quota kept on a wrist watch that records body movement and heart rate and rate of perspiration even. The idea that a person will generate points by the amount of work done that is recorded of he persons complete biology. The computer knows when you are slowing down or making mistakes and if you lose those points you don't eat. If you think it was bad trying to obtain enough money to live on comfortably just wait till you see how hard it is to obtain social credit points. Identity theft will take on a whole new meaning and purpose. The perfect slave class vs human class system. Perhaps there will be no lower class as the bottom will be cut off. One who can produce enough over and on top of what they can consume should be allowed the privilege of being kept alive by our society. As for the rest.

Absolutely. I'm in my 80s and got along during my childhood w/o TV. We have one these days but mostly watch streaming movies. TVs are ubiquitous in doctor's and dentist's offices - even right in your face while your teeth are being examined/cleaned. It's interesting to watch fellow patients in the waiting room, sitting there slack-jawed watching endless HGTV garbage. We enjoy going to the library or reading Kindle books. Also enjoy the company of fellow oldsters at our local non-chain coffee shop as we tell each other stories from life. Human interaction at its finest, great coffee, too. My wife and I recently went to lunch at a nearby diner. Great food, resonable prices, friendly staff. But then we noticed the relatively quiet dining room, and saw that most of the clientele were not chatting among themselves, but rather were staring at iPhones. Why go out to eat with family or friends if you're going to ignore their presence. It's a sad situation indeed.

I bet anything that this IS going to happen (in one form or another), and sooner rather than later, at that! Regrettablym there are far too few people who see any real danger in it, and those who do, are just very small gears in a huge machine and thus are voiceless. And yes, I do admit my own discrepancy: I use computers, tablets, mobile phones. But I hate them at the same time. because they are the ones which started all tis. It started with a simple computer and a simple Nokia-type of phone, and now it's going towards AI and beyond. We are moving away from our souls as nations, and as the whole human race. And it won't change. Until it's too late and we then realise we have prepared a doomsday for ourselves of our own volition. To be re-born again, and to finally live in paradise, we all need to go through hell first. And hell doesn't have to be a war, or a climatic crisis, although both will most definitely happen - they are already happening. What this Sci-Fi short movie is showing will one day no longer be Sci-Fi but grim, dystopian reality.

Ego. Human Ego and the willingness to be able to control others. Lusting for more when you already have all money can buy and are still not satisfied. Raised to believe one is superior because t hey have more money and more influence and more power over others. It is all from a lack of love. A needing to fill a love sized hole to deflate the ego and open the heart.
