Longing to say goodbye, Gabby has taken up her mother's quest to find something that no one has ever found, a rare natural phenomenon she calls: Outbound Gravity. A small hidden pocket where the effects of gravity are reversed, which may give her the incredible opportunity to travel to the edge of space and confront a missed opportunity.

@@vishnunair7623 thanks for your kind words. Yes a shot like that would've been amazing. The 2 aerial shots you see in the film where she is hanging upside down are actually 2 different takes, hence why we couldn't have a continuous shot but it certainly would've been amazing. Maybe in the next one

I'm curious what's the motivation in media these days to exclude/downplay father figures from stories about children? I do not mean this as a specific question about your work but on the industry at large.

I'm of the age when friends and family members are dying at a disturbing clip. Like New Years resolution, each time I sit with one who is dying of cancer or is simply very old and frail, I try to make sure they know I love them and I say that actual phrase that seems too impossible for many. This story combines the theme of the unspoken emotions and thoughts, the love of a daughter for her mother and finding a phenomenon just talked about but with no (or so few I haven't encountered a believable account) functional report on how it happened. I loved how the thread of her childhood and ultimately young adulthood with Mom was developed and the unsaid was resolved with some good old classic SF elements. It was kinda perfect for an old woman who's been reading and watching Sf since she was 8 years old and had parents who never scolded me for reading "crap" all the time. Thank you for a truly sweet moment in my cluttered mind!

Nice work! Will you be releasing a behind-the-scenes look at this film? I would like to learn more about the props used in the film. What brand of camera is attached to the actor's helmet --??
@filmplatter
@filmplatter 8 ай бұрын
Thanks. I am releasing a behind the scenes on Sunday on the Film Platter channel, but we actually don't cover the props in it. I'll tell you now, the gravity reading device is an old piece of film projection equipment (the round bit) which is attached to a standard power adapter box (the back yellow piece). There's very little alterations apart from that. The cameras on the helmet and waist are DJI osmo action. The main cinema camera we shot on was a RED Komodo with Sigma Cine Primes. Hope that helps

Interesting story, but as she was being lifted through the clouds, why weren't the clouds also being lifted, along with the atmosphere itself. Definitely an original concept, an emotional story wrapped around an unusual sci-fi concept. Presumably mum previously went up into the sky and disappeared? Very well acted, a compelling presentation that didn't have to rely on elaborate props and CGI.

I really enjoyed this short. It's got a few laughs, a little tear jerk & the sci-fi aspect. I would have liked to see the phenomenon explained a bit more. I'm assuming there's an apex or focal point where the outbound gravity converges? Just based on how the ropes were connected to the ground in 3 points. How was she able to extend so far out from the surface? Does the anti-gravity have a continuous push outward, far beyond inward pull of gravity? Well, in any case, this is worth a watch!

@@bbaucom2 if you are measuring gravitational speed that’s fine. However detecting gravitational waves is much more difficult and not very accurate. We have nothing on earth to do this. We have to wait for colliding neutrons in space and then we can detect waves. But this eventually equates to speed which still isn’t what I meant. 😝 but hey ho.

Well done. Great story though I keep coming back to the scene with the ropes arranged in a circle and staked to the ground. The field is completely mowed, like a golf course and I can’t get past the fact that if there was indeed “outbound” gravity that it would become impossible to have anything in that space as it would all be flung into space leaving a huge hole. Beyond that, it was intertwining and had a great human story imbedded into the plot. Well done!
@filmplatter
@filmplatter 8 ай бұрын
Yes, I hear you regarding the mowed field, unfortunately we had to run with it. The idea is that this is the first time this event has happened in this particular location. Her research suggested it would happen there, but that’s all in the longer version. I’m happy you liked it, thank you.

Where's the Sci Fi? So often these Dust offerings are emotional/relationship indulgences with a "dusting" of Sci to attach them to that label. btw if she was weightless, so would the air be in that vicinity and it would rise sucking in air from all around, possibly violently like a fire storm. This was a lovely, whimsical film with wonderful acting and plot! I think it is meant to be whimsical obviously rather than realistic since the area of anti grav is very neatly mowed (like a golf course as another viewer mentioned) and the person mowing would have run into the effects of the anti grav first by floating away on his/her John Deere; second, there wouldn't be enough rope that this girl could obtain to get so high on her small oxygen canister let alone how she would get down again before she ran out of air unless the many satellites which would probably watching her ascent (through NASA or the NSA) decided to intervene!! But still a lovely piece!
