Sciacca, Sicily folk-dancing group

Incredible folk-dance group in Sciacca, Sicily (Italy), March 2011. They are performing an impromptu dance at a celebration, pronounced ski-TEAK-ee-oh, that I can't find the word for at the moment. Massive doses of pasta, grilled meats, and various wines and boozes were consumed. . .

I am 38 and born and raised in New jersey. I have learned my maternal family is from Sciacca. They came to the US around 1890. I am now planning to visit one day and and see the land my ancestors called home.

My family are from Syracuse. My grandparents and father migrated to Australia in the 60’s. I was born in Australia but grew up with all these beautiful Sicilian traditions and I have been there three time now. I always feel home when I’m in Sicily.

Sciacca is my ancestral homeland. My grandfather left there for America over 100 years ago. As I watched these young dancers, I was struck by the thought that one or more of them could be my distant cousins.

My sentiments exactly. My paternal family's roots are from Sciacca, my mother's from Agrigento and Palermo. I'm proud to be of Sicilian heritage on both sides of my family. And I was struck by how beautiful the women of Sciacca are. But at the same time, I should have figured that out anyway. Le donne della Sicilia sono le più belle!

the sicilian dialect is different from italian.

Italian and Spanish are veryyy similar, I'd say that in the south some dialects could have a perfect convo with a native Spaniard (since the south was invaded by Spanish people, some of the language stuck)
