I just found this video after having decided to study landscape architecture and wanting to design skateparks in the future. It's also so motivating to find old videos such as these showcasing pretty much exactly what I want to do :) Greetings from Germany!

Would landscape architecture fall into this category?
@springisthenewyear8 жыл бұрын
+Becky LaPlante Yes, I'm currently studying Landscape Architecture and was given the advice to go into this major by 3 different skatepark firms.

I’ve been studying civil engineering at university - and I’ve skateboarded since I was around 5 years old. Here in Glasgow (Scotland) there are a few DIY parks where people of the skateboarding community have appropriated derelict spots, designed parks, raised funds and built them - and I wanna be more involved with them because the whole design process fascinates me. After watching this video, and realising all the key concepts you talk about are all encompassed in what I’m getting taught in uni at this moment has made me realise a skatepark designer might actually be my dream job

would you get a civil engineering degree to do something like this?
@adamuhlig7 жыл бұрын
I think a civil engineering degree would definitely help. If you're an independent contractor, I'm sure your clients want a person who has a strong educational background. And if you want to work for a skatepark company, that degree will certainly look very impressive on a resume. But I do not think it has to necessarily be civil engineering. I'm sure a degree or an educational background in structural engineering, architecture, urban design, or even mathematics would all be helpful.

My town in Morristown Tennessee needs skateparks. Cause we only got one at franklorino park in Morristown Tennessee and it's good but we need a concrete skatepark. If builders ever come by my town they'll see no skatepark.

hi, my local village was discussing getting a skatepark but some old gits on the committee who live nearby with young families don't want and skater scum nearby their precious children and white fence bullshit. Im 15 yrs old and board (see what I did there) as fuck having to go miles to reach a skatepark which really limits my ablility to learn. I have access to software such as sketch-up make and was wondering how I should go about designing a skatepark? what elements does a skatepark need? how steep should the ramps be.ect? I have made several concepts but none very good or plausible. I have gone to bury st Edmunds skatepark and it made my local look like a shitstack. besides that what would be the best way to get the committee on my side as there are plans for more kiddie parks EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE ALREADY 6 AND 15 YR OLDS ARENT ALLOWED IN!!! the only thing we can do is go to youth club... and that's it! no wonder some teens drink and smoke! then they stereotype us as hoods and thugs! ffs.

This is my dream job! I'm currently studying architecture in New Jersey but I plan on moving out west the first chance I get. Is there any way I can get some help getting into the field?
@mashj346812 жыл бұрын
any chance you would hire an intern studying engineering in Vancouver that has a passion for skate parks and could not see himself in any other field.
