I think what happened is that the mara were once smaller craters when the Moon was smaller; and when the Moon grew the craters stretched out into large patchy areas that we now call mara.

What if there was water on the moon before, which would have filled those Mareas - and so any impacts on the moon would not have made any impact craters, because the water would have absorbed the shock.

The moon has been in the alt news a lot lately, with the lunar waves being recorded. i keep thinking that every piece of matter radiates heat if it is above absolute zero, and if heat is infrared photons, and heat is absorbed by matter, we have a "food source" for the growth of everything.

The 40 mile thick continental plates are floating on the mantle, right (Well,....no. 40 miles down would hardly be called liquid on which to "float" 40 Miles down would be between "DUCTILE" and "SOLID". Do you have a graphic video showing the molten crustal material displacement upwards, or is it pretty much the same as other peoples graphics explaining how volcanoes form? ( I don't have it, but , NO, it is not as most videos indicate. I was thinking that since growing earth theory says there wasn't a lot of subduction going on then volcanoes must be formed different. Volcanic islands are caused by displacement upward,......but, Hawaii is not being made from subduction.

(Well, NO, you don't. ....If you knew the process by which the Earth, Moon and stars GROW, there would be nothing to disagree with. You are working out of a 170 year old theory of a handfull of Philosopher-scientists who gave us the "Solar System accretion theory!" A theory that says, there was this spinning PILE OF ROCKS AND JUNK AND MATTER, which spun around and which coalessed into a Solar System! This is unscientific tripe, out of a vast ignorance. The Early Universe was composed of Hydrogen. (Which came to it by pair-Production.) This Hydrogen, brought together gives us our Suns and THEIR electro-magnetic fields! Next, since Hydrogen has NO Neutrons, we can never have all the other Atoms! BUT these Hydrogen SUNS compressed the Hydrogen to drive the Electron into the early Proton,...and Viola, we get neutrons. Neutrons Join Protons and give us Helium!, and we're off to the races! Bursting into flame these new suns fire Hydrogen and Helium into the suns magnetic Solar System, and in doing so strips off their ELECTRONS ( Ionizes) them. OUT in the sun's system, these Nuclei JOIN to make/assemble into HIGHER COUNT ATOMS!, which in turn join to become Meteorites to assemble and gather on the Sun's magnetic lines! Here to one day become Planets and their moons. This SAME process goes on at the core and outer core of all larger bodies. Once begun, it can never stop! It is a GROWING PROCESS!) The moon has an almost non existent inner core and a very thick and mostly crystallized mantle, suggesting (in my opinion) that it no longer has the required inner force/strength to break the barrier created around its core. (Nothing needs to "BREAK"! The silicate surface SPREADS!....OUTWARD, just like on a Geode!) In consequence of this it no longer grows... and since the growth of the moon is not an eternal process,(Of course it is an eternal process, and the Moon will one day become a Planet, and then a star,.. then a Nova to seed the Universe!) it is also an event. The moon must be growing at a far slower rate than Earth. Not just Earth but Europa and Ganymede as well. Mercury does not seem to be expanding and I read that it has even shrunk. That is a clue to the mass creation process, no?

As the Earth and moon GROW, their magnetic fields grow and expand outward, The sun also grows as does ITS magnetic field, it's magnetic lines grow outward! Planets and moons ride along their parent bodies magnetic lines and all move outward as these lines move outward! Nothing will collide with anything else,.....anymore than your nose will collide with your eyebrow!

There is a hollow planet theory where planets and moons inflated during formation. The side of the moon facing the earth has dark smooth areas, but the far side of the moon has none. If the moon is hollow then the earth's gravity would cause the shell of a hollow moon to be thicker on the side facing the earth. Therefore the moon's gravity would be higher on the side facing the earth, causing its outer continental crust to be thinner on that side. As it expanded breaking apart happened on that side but not on the side facing away from the earth. Since the shell is thicker on one side then this caused the breaking that put the moon's rotation in step with it's orbital period.

The moon rings like a bell when struck. This indicates that its hollow. The continental crust is thicker on the far side than on the near side. If the moon's shell is thicker on the near side (from earth's gravity) then the moon's gravity would be higher on the near side. Then the moon's continental crust would be thinner on the near side. There are no seas on the far side because when the moon inflated the splitting of the crust was only on the near side.

Terribly sorry, but wouldn't a proof have to cover the mechanism as to why something is occuring? All this says is that the wide, shallow depressions on the moon cannot be impact craters for reasons, so the moon must be expanding... like a geode, because apparently geodes expand. Actually, I would like to know that to how a geode could expand. Finally, wouldn't the earth shield the near side of the moon the way Jupiter shields the inner planets, causing the near side to take fewer impacts since formation?

+Paul Elkin It's a VERY BIG Theory, of which this is only a very small part. When you don't have the RIGHT FACTS, there is a tendency to fire off in many directions to explain, what seems to be un-explain-able. In time the wrong theories build up to a massive tower of nonsense,,,so much so, that if you finally get to the RIGHT ONE, you are obligated to tear down all the nonsense to simply clear away the debris, and get a clear picture. So, the Maria cannot be Impact Craters,..too BIG! They cannot be lava flow from ancient Volcanoes because they are BELOW THE GENERAL SURFACE, not above. They can only be tectonic spreads like the Atlantic ocean Spread of Earth. And they are not OLD, because there are NO massive Meteor hits as on the opposite side of the Moon! Your note: 1. Wouldn't those Meteors have hit the Earth??? I don't see them. 2. Look at the size of Earth in the moons NIGHT SKY,...then, since Meteors come from all different directions, Earth is in the moons path for about 10 minutes per day from ONE DIRECTION! That's ONE direction!

But so far, your growing moon hypothesis seems to be the building tower, at least until I can make sense of the mechanisms that would drive such an event. On meteors hitting the earth rather than the moon: the reason I compared the situation to Jupiter is that everything i have read states that Jupiter Shields the inner planets primarily by pulling debris away from with it's gravitational pull, rather than blocking them directly. Should you have evidence that is not how Jupiter affects the inner planets, I apologize (as I have not seen it) but was referring to the scenario I just described. Why would the earth not pull meteors moving toward away from the moon? They would not necessarily have to hit the earth for this to work; after all, if everything Jupiter shielded us from hit it, Shoemaker-Levy would be just another space rock that hit the gas giant. On the so-called "impact craters:" Please explain why Lava would be unable to flow below the average surface level of the planet, as they are still on the surface. I see no mechanism that would cause molten rock to behave differently under the same pressure at a lower elevation. Finally, shouldn't spreading plates have a raised area where they are spreading from (like the mid-Atlantic ridge) rather than be equally flat over their entire area?

+Paul Elkin Please look up Jupiter's inner moons. (Callisto, etc) They rotate and so receive Meteorite hits all around/ Yes, also Jupiter grew to become the inner Planet's Meteorite Umbrella! Did you notice I said GREW! This GROWTH of Jupiter is also why ONLY small Meteorites get past Jupiter to hit Earth, the moon and Mars in the current epoch. Compare the older crust of the backside of the moon as well as the the collection of near-side UN-SPREAD areas of the front side of the moon! (As well the UN-SPREAD more southern areas of Mars.) OLD SURFACE= large craters. NEW SURFACE=small craters! Note, also, that Jupiter is the Largest planet in our Solar System. Earth, by comparison is rather small. If a Meteorite came from a given direction Earth would have little chance to deflect it. As usual, it would just fly by! Not so Jupiter. Earth in it's orbit relative to the moon has a one in 20 thousand chance to block the moon! from ANY SIDE!, and the moon has a 50-50 chance to be hit front side OR backside. If a volcano causes lava to flow over that surface it must stay ON TOP of that surface and as a result, that surface would be THICKER and higher topographly. These spread areas are UNIVERSALLY LOWER than the standard surface. You can easily look this up on the Net! On the Earth, the Oceans are a result of upper plate rifting and spreading away to reveal newer under surface! AND THAT is what you see on the moon,...and on Mars,... Ganymede. and the Earth! There are indeed ridges in the spreads, BUT under the surface of the moon , it is NOT Molten but merely hot. Hot enough to allow the silicate rock to spread out on the surface! (That's what crystaline rock does, you know. It bends, to spread laterally over time.!

+nealadamsdotcom I was not suggesting the earth hipchecks asteroids as they move toward the moon, but have found a site explaining what I was trying to ask about since my last reply. However, given some of the blatantly wrong information in this last attempt to explain your hypothesis, I feel I will have a better chance of making sense of it from another source. While crystalline rock can have plastic motion, you claim volcanoes cannot have an opening lower than the average elevation of a celestial body, even though plenty of volcanism occurs at deep ocean depths on earth, well below the average elevation. At the same time, moving plates in a heated core would continue moving below spreading rock, creating tension causing the surface rock to rupture. This is of course assuming that the surface rock has cooled enough for craters to remain recognizable on it, like the one visible at 0:55 in your video. You also say that all large asteroids are physically blocked by Jupiter, which is insane. Jupiter is more than an au away, and significantly smaller than the sun. Since massive comets can repeatedly pass by Jupiter unharmed, I cannot believe every singe large asteroid is magically stopped. There is more than enough room for large asteroids to pass by the gas giant to the interior of the solar system. it is due to these errors that I will attempt to figure out this theory elsewhere although the logical parts of your statements have given me a lot to think about. Granitic rock is 2.7 times the density of water, while Basalts are 3.3 times the density of water. That's why they are LOWER! The crust of the moon ranges from 38 miles on the near side to 63 miles on the FAR SIDE! SAME STUFF! The Regolith (Dusty outer rock layer.) varies from 10 to 16 feet, In the Maria. to 33 to 66 feet in the highlands. ,....So there is NO upper or LOWER plate! It's all the same! Lava flows from meteorite impacts so large the original cater which caused the lava flows was filled in. And the reason you they don't have many impact caters is because they are resent.
