We are aware of thinking and acting, and we typically think this is what neurons and brains are for. Their deeper functions in regulating the body, either directly or through neuro-hormonal and neuro-immune interactions are largely unconscious and therefore neglected. This talk introduces theoretical models and experimental data suggesting an even deeper and evolutionarily older function of nervous systems: regulating the size and shape of the body. If these models are correct, the original function of neurons was the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation. Neurons still perform these functions, from early embryogenesis through adulthood. We may even, sometimes, be aware of them. Recognizing this gives a new meaning to "embodied cognition."
Science and Nonduality is a community inspired by timeless wisdom, informed by cutting-edge science, and grounded in direct experience. We come together in an open-hearted exploration while celebrating our humanity.

21:00 Evolution is the force, the 'voltage', the 'gravity' that pushes information to find the path of least resistance (i.e., least action) through the information space.

I loved your presentation Chris, I hadn't grasped until now how the multiplicity of life's organismes over time can be seen this way as a single evolving organisme. This reminds me of texts referring to the One hidden in the many.

Organism is the model of its environment. Organism is a theory of what world is like. Frog is a theory according to which you must shoot a tongue when a small object moves through a visual field. Evolution is the process of learning what the world is like. We all are thoughts of Universe about itself.

I don't really get the part about neurons telling our bodies what shapes to have. That was a jump presented with no evidence (except maybe for some lower-level organisms).

I believe the power House of Life is imagination. The only power of the Universe is Love. The Mandela effect is the Universe changing it's mind. We are in the same place that we have eternally been having never moved or experienced anything except in our imagination. Nothing has ever been seen or sensed anywhere except in our minds. Nothing ever actually moves but only appears to as a result of our remembering the last place we imagined it to be. We are in a story with one author pretending to be many authors. Or we are trapped in a computer program written by someone who is smart enough to have imagined all the things that God has imagined but where would that someone be and where would they have gotten the idea? It doesn't seem likely...

yeah, but our minds are real.....so therefore, it's all 'real' maybe there's no real, or not-real just experience & yeah, the computer nonsense parable fable correlation analogy, what-have-you, is silly human nonsense whatever 'god' is, it's a heck of a lot more than one single physically (whatever that is) manifested form on planet 'Earth'n aka, the human being......and thank god for that!

You are missing something. #1 gods are not the creators. They were created. #2 the creators are millions working toguether imaging all the thing we should live through. This is how life is rendered.
@imaginaryuniverse632

@@deepdude4719 I could see that as plausible. It seems to me the foundation of reality which has no beginning or end is unknowable not even to God. Some say there is an overall intelligence that created the entire Universe and then separated itself into many independent points of view. I'm always coming up with stories in my mind about exactly how everything works and think I've found the most likely story and then I think of another one and think it could just as likely be that. I guess I favor a great many worlds kind of theory where many worlds are let go of when they stop being useful but the only thing I have much confidence in is that figuring out the golden rule and learning to follow is probably the most important challenge for us to focus on. It's been difficult for me in trying to figure out how to deal with people who are obviously destructive and how to overcome my own selfishness and even to see it sometimes. 🙏
