I swear if they made af1s with steel toe caps they’d sell like hot cakes

Looks like nubuck leather, which is a top-grain leather made by shaving down most of the grain of a hide to get a certain texture, then dying it to cover up the milling marks. Nubuck is very wear resistant which is exactly what you want when it comes to work boots. However, this means manufacturers can cut corners by buying low-grade leather with many visible imperfections. The processing to make the hides into nubuck will mask the imperfections. Sometimes this low-grade leather can be quite stiff and tough, which probably makes it ideal for workboots. As long as the uppers are tough I can live with the leather being lower-grade, but the thing I can't stand are the glued soles. Once you wear stitched sole workboots that can be resoled, you'll never go back to this kind.

stitched soles are best. the glued on soles are the mark of shoddy manufacturing. these boots in video look good but I wouldn't buy the just because the sole is glued on. I had some expensive Timberland boots where the sole started peeling off.

Are you telling me that the steel toe is “ securely fastened” with TAPE and a little glue. Makes you think .

i want all sewed boots..i tired of the vulcanized/ glued shoes/ boots/ any kind of footwear, idk but i really destroys glued shoes in less than a year

Gluing a shoe together is a bad idea to begin with. As with many glued objects, it can wear down fast (especially if it becomes wet). Knowing this and my experienced with massively glued together shoes, I tend to go for more expensive boots which has lasted me years instead of the cheaply designed ones. Boots are tough, but others are tougher.

Looked like they buy lower quality leather . Why else go through all that leather processing expense? I like how they make it sound like an improvement with saying its evened out and breathes better by sanding it down. More like getting rid of the visible imperfections that reveal weaknesses in leather. I suppose its good that they are being upfront and honest. I am sure the prices reflect this type of manufacturing, just that this is nowhere near premium boot quality.
