This video provides an overview of the materials and process to build an infinity mirror, a trick mirror that creates the illusion of an infinitely deep tunnel using LEDs. You can build one using simple materials available at a hardware or arts and crafts store: a small cardboard box, a tiny craft mirror, some plexiglass, reflective window film, and LEDs. To view full directions for this science project, see the "Explore Optical Illusions: Build an Infinity Mirror" Project Idea at Science Buddies. www.sciencebuddies.org/science...
Science Buddies also hosts a library of over 1,200 other free science fair "Project Ideas" for K-12 students, in a wide variety of topic areas from Astronomy to Zoology! Visit us at www.sciencebuddies.org?from=KZbin to see more Project Ideas for hands-on science and engineering.

I have a question. I'm not sure if you're able to answer it or not but, if you were to etch a design in one or the other mirrors, would it also have the same effect, or does it have to be glowing?

Can this be done using two acrylic mirrors instead of using one acrylic mirror wrapped in film and a traditional one? I ask because I can't find an appropriate sized mirror for the photo frame I'm using. Most mirrors I have are too big and because they are traditional glass, I don't have an effective means of cutting them to the right size - where as I could easily do this with acrylic mirrors. Thanks

Suraj Tirupati Technically yes it can be done with 2 acrylic sheets wrapped in reflective film just make sure the reflective sides are facing each other with your led's in between.. in fact it gives a pretty cool effect cuz then u get a Illusion mirror on both sides of your frame :D If your making a small one just stick the battery pack to the side of the frame.. if ur making a big one do the same with the cable n bring it out from the side of the frame. ;) lemme know if it helped

What if I have a coffee table and glass top? Would I put the plexiglass and film underneath the glass top or can I use the film on the glass and not need the plexiglass?

You can use normal glass, we just listed plexiglass since it's easier to cut.

This may be a stupid question, but I've never tried this before so I'm wondering if you can use the mirrored (chrome) spray paint on the plexiglass instead of the mirrored window tint?

i am trying to make one that has both sides exposed inset a partition wall the effect i am hoping for is to see through and still keep the infinity look i havent completed it yet but i am using a two way mirror in the middle and both outer sides a filmed plexi with 2 led strips on either side what i believe i am seeing with these videos is the closer the mirrors are together the more infinity effect is that correct? any input on what i should be doing to get the look im wanting? getting frusterated haha

What is reflective factor for window tint film You used here??? There is several diferent factors... From 50% to 100%... Which one did You use here?
@tvd-theremedy2515
@tvd-theremedy2515 7 жыл бұрын
Bojan Simonovic You can use regular dark tint (that has the percentage of light that's allowed through listed-- the type that you can put on car windows), but it seems to work best if you use actual "mirror" tint. I haven't seen mirror tint with a percentage listed listed on it like that. Are you using dark tint or mirror tint? The kind I've used, that works pretty well, is called Gila Mirror Privacy Control Window Film. There's no percentage rating for it or anything. For this brand at least, if it's "mirror" tint, it's all the same. I'm not sure if there are other brands that have different strengths of mirror tint, and which would be best if there are-- but I do know that kind I listed above works (and it looks the same as what he used in this video).

Alec Neal Yeah, you basically need 2 mirrors facing each other, with a strip of lights in between. Since you can't see through regular mirrors (unless you use a 2-way mirror), you have to use regular glass with mirror tint on one side, instead of a mirror (ultimately the front side, once it's put together), so you can see through it.
