How come I haven't heard of this before? I mean this sounds pretty important. Also does this happen to all stars? and does it happen to planets such as our own? Imagine if every 10000 years on earth we had to change where the signs are on our compasses haha

Scientists predicted that this year sun activity will be increased greatly. Michio Kaku said that people better be ready by improving their power boxes and electricity controlling stations. Quite a few of those boxes will blow up this year. And a lot of people will lose electricity until things are repaired from that EM blast from sun.

If you don't know this solar cycle is lackluster so far, last cycle featured 4 flares above X10 (2 of them created days worth news in main stream media... as thye happened in one day), but record of this cycle is X6.9 which happened in 2011 and only top 6 flares so far crossed X2. Number of sunspots is more then a half smaller then last cycle. Some people believe we might approaching another Maunder Minimum which been observed in 17 and 18 cencury

No, the trajectory of the comet ISON will not be affected by this. Magnetic fields have only an effect on charged particles and comets are made out of neutral particles. So the comet's trajectory won't be changed. Maybe the size and/or brightness of the comet's tail might be slightly affected by a change in solar wind intensity/velocity, although I don't really know that.

Sorry... I just realized that I improperly worded my previous reply. Increased solar activity (and resulting auroras) are NOT likely caused by the magnetic field reversal. The reversal simply signals the peak of activity which is during a time of maximum solar activity.

Theoretical models by Matrix/DNA Theory suggests a different explanation for this flip. This magnetic pole shift happen in the Sun by the same mechanism discovered by physicist and Nobel Prize winner Hideki Ywkawa which produces proton changes into a neutron and vice versa, in the atomic nucleus. Each magnetic field has a conical shape and the two are coupled in the region of the solar core. The reversal of the poles is an evolutionary process from the atomic nuclear reversal between protons and

Yes, Phil. You're spot on friend. Wallace Thornhill and Don Scott have more comprehension of how the solar system and the Cosmos work than any two fellas on the planet. They would of course have chuckled, as I'm sure you did, at the newbie errors in logic that riddle this and other NASA science-as-newscast videos. But at least they are able to bring themselves now to use that verbotten "E" word : ELECTRICITY, even if they do have the entire thing backwards. This is clear progress

that's an excellent question, in my book the old cycle # 24 finished on the 17th may 2013, cycle #25 starts on the 28th july 2014 with a reverse polarity, the sun is now at solar minimum and the planets around the solar system should show signs of cooling, keep your eye on the north west passage, it's earth's canary in the coal mine for climate.

We have a lot of people with less than a 6th grade scientific literacy, and when one understands science the whole world opens up like a lotus flower blooming. I have no idea what the world must seem like to them but I can imagine it must be scary and many escape through drugs. The people who generate fake controversy are mostly religious, they also have a dark age view of the world and live in perpetual doomsday fear.

You don't get it :p what they observed since 1976 fit to solar cycle which been observed based on sunspot activity half of 18 century and even earlier but back then there was Maunder Minimum that disturbed solar cycles processes on sun. If it fits to solar cycles and those solar cycles been repeated for so many times it easy to assume it happens with each solar cycle. Not to mention sunspot/active region polarization also is flipped every cycle but on minimum not maximum, been observed earlier too

magnetic flip obviously means, that electrons within the suns magnetosphere will change their direction, Same as on the earth, the Northern Pole is currently the + or "gravity" pole attrackting solar electrons (measurable esp. after SEP events, The Southern pole contains more energetic electrons (-) attrackting solar protons. My theory: The Sun`s Center of gravity is NOT located right in its middle. and shifts all 11y to the South/ North, Then electrons will also change their direction

neutrons that causes the nuclear glue, adapted for the astronomical conditions, Think of the neutron as a point that inflates energy forming a balloon till exploding due the excess of energy. At his side is the proton, a balloon full of energy that empties until becoming a point and disappear for lack of energy. But when the energy decreases in the proton it is transferred to the neutron, who was declining due to lack of energy, then, the situation is reversed
