The word is not Hellenic but the dessert it is! There are records of this dessert served in ancient Kings of Mycenae or Crete! The term is turkic because we lived for more than 400 years under ottoman rule but the dessert is ours!🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷 Turks don’t have cuisine! They adopted things from various other nations like Hellas, Armenia, Arabia…

Baklava is a Turkish dessert, not Greek. In 2013 EU Commission patented it as a Turkish dessert upon Gaziantep Chamber of Industry's appeal. This had to be done because Greek chefs who brought baklava to western countries kept claiming it was a Greek dessert.

For all those wondering if the desserts are Hellenic🇬🇷 or not: The NAMES are in turkic language because we lived under ottoman ruling for over 400 years! The history of the dessert is Hellenic🇬🇷 Even though the turks insist that these are turkic desserts we have records of desserts like these being served at ancient times to Kings! In ancient Hellas🇬🇷 they used to serve only to Kings a recorded dessert made with many layers of phyllo pastry, filled with crushed walnuts and served with a thick syrup made by boiling honey with water! There wasn’t sugar back then! Only we have records from that desserts! Of course under the centuries of turkic occupation we use the turkic name… so what? It’s well known that ottomans use to take Hellene girls for the kitchens! Hundreds of Hellene slave girls were cooking their 🇬🇷 foods for the ottomans because they didn’t had a specific cuisine! And because of that they were known with a turkic name… Many sultans even had Hellene mothers because beside their work in the kitchens, many girls were used as entertainers for the sultans… Many famous sultans have Hellene mothers!!! The dessert and their origin dates back to ancient Hellas🇬🇷 Only the name is turkic!
