People actually knew a lot of methods to determine a pregnancy. Like peeing on hay or something, most of those methods are just superstitious bs of course. Especially when it comes to the gender of the baby, people would guess some nonsense and then act like they had special powers when they were right. It's a 50/50 chance, the odds aren't that complicated. But women always know when they are pregnant, you just need to listen to your own body, the signs are already there but most people don't know how to read them. Having unprotected vaginal intercourse increases the probability like (100%).

I'm usually not that squeamish when it comes to gore and violence, but so many (victims) in this movie were 'innocent'. Barely any of them knew about the enslavement of the deity on that island, people came to that place to find a safe new home. Especially the pregnant young woman didn't deserve her fate, such a sweet and delightful person, the death of her baby's father was too cruel to bear.

The cinematography was mind blowingly beautiful, the aesthetics can be pretty gruesome, still you can't help but feel mesmerized. Especially the scene in the tunnel scared the crap out of me, I was terrified out of mind, yet couldn't look away. This movie deserves the term 'masterpiece', but I won't touch this ever again, there is just too much pain and violence, the ending gives you some sort of closure, but it's not enough to go through the emotional torture again.

There was a movie recap I watched recently called Vendetta about a special forces dude getting vengeance on the cheap street thugs that killed his parents and was the dumbest thing ever made and only people that enjoy fox news and the idea of Judge Dredd going around killing poor people. Basically Lifetime's version of The Punisher, utter trash. This was a movie that was far, far better at telling a story about revenge and comeuppance, sin and punishment by having the hero be flawed but guiled, by having the villains have real power, but are also real human beings making misguided selfish choices. The danger of Quinn and their followers is because they make foolish, life ending decisions that will end up killing them and everyone else, but do them with sheer ferocious tenacity, eager to kill and draw blood even as they're mortally wounded- like someone who drinks mercury thinking it'll make them immortal, and as they're dying a horrible death attempt to force as much mercury into everyone's mouth as possible, laughing as they do so. The ending is dark, and could have been darker- but the fear is that Malcom may tie up Thomas and try to redo everything yet again- Malcom is a zealot- the fact it all blew up in his face means he didn't try hard enough, maybe next time will be different? Fitting with the theme of man repeatedly making endless mistakes in their arrogance, and not learning from them...
