Man, your videos are so helpful! Thank you, you help me a lot! Do you think Campbell Biology is the best book for introductory biology? Are there any alternatives? What do you think about OpenStax?
@cash-n8e2 жыл бұрын
The Campbell is usually for the intro biology course for bio majors and all the likes and the open stax is for the non major biology

how can I know if 2 isomers are enantiomers or not? I understand the hands' differences but I can't really know whether two compounds are the same or not.
@ScienceWithJohnston4 жыл бұрын
If they have the same formula and atom arrangement they are the same thing. If it's the same formula but there are 2 different mirror image arrangements it is an enantiomer. If the structure is flipped at a middle bond, that is geometric, and if there are major rearrangements it is structural. There are others terms used for some of these as well that can be confusing. Like structural isomers are often called constitutional.

most of the videos cutt off too early at the end :(
@ScienceWithJohnston7 жыл бұрын
They actually don't cut off because there was more, they cut off because I then rambled on stream of consciousness for 2 minutes about nothing before admitting I was finished. I then used my amazing editing skills to just cut it off before my verbal diarrhea really kicked in.

What a strange claim! Do you really know the mechanism that makes things alive ?!
@ScienceWithJohnston6 жыл бұрын
You will need to be more specific. It has been a while since I recorded, but I can tell you "alive" is a concept created and defined by people. So I can confidently say what "alive" is by using the definition generally agreed upon by scientists. Not sure what else you are aiming for with your comment...
