Very well explained Bibhusit. This is an excellent insurance against the Panda scam industry. One thing I would like to add to the flag's direction is that even when it may not be fluttering in exactly the opposite direction of the incoming wind, as your explanation rightly suggest, there will alway be an acute angle between the flag's and the incoming wind's direction. While this would be apparent when seen from the top (looking down towards the "shikhara" of the tower), at the ground level what is perceivable is the shrinking base of flag (given its triangular shape), but always in the exact opposite direction. This is also the reason why weather vanes are so designed to prevent such an optical illusion.
