How about the cause of the demise of the Alaskan snow crab being the Russian crabbers in the area. US crabbers have to follow the US and Alaskan fishing regulations, the biggest one being that they must only keep crab over a certain size, and only male crabs (crabs without eggs). The Russian crabbers do not have to follow this regulation, since they are technically in international waters catching "Alaskan snow crab".

They have moved. The ocean is too big for them to just die off. We just haven't figured out where they went yet. They have been found regularly as deep as 7,200ft. That's more than twice as deep as any regular sub can dive. Military subs only go about half that. There are only 10 active subs currently that can reach that depth, and they aren't tracking crabs lol. We know very little about the oceans, especially at those depths.

i'm no fishermen but i can almost say with certainly this is rubbish how can you estimate over 10billion have disappeared ? i don't go by guesses but by facts. first they said it was due to over fishing then now they say its climate change in the weather .... you got to ask questions what's really going on russian and chinese boats are well known to hunt crab also in the USA illegally and nothing gets done about it that's a concern we all need to come to reality with of illegal fishering men. reminds me of being a car mechanic you have car designers that are the architect designers of cars who know nothing about the true workings on a car making it complicated for us mechanics engineers to follow out our jobs effectively.

Fishing brokers stock pile catch in flash freezers. This helps them time the market for greater profit. This is what happened with scallops and squid.

Passenger pigeons. Used to be 3 to 5 billion of them, most abundant bird in North America. Gone in about 20 years. Not that hard to imagine really when it's happened before.
