Duke NUS Scientists Discover Protein That Causes Aging
A research team lead by Anissa A. Widjaja recently published in Nature that inhibiting interleukin-11 extends lifespan by nearly 25% in 75 weeks old mice (55 years of human equivalent age.) Team has discovered the age causing protein. Of course there are more proteins and mechanisms that contribute to aging, however, inflammation is central part of these processes. IL-11 with age start increasing in amount contributing to visceral fat accumulation, muscle wasting, and metabolic irregularities. Let's review the study together.

Be aware that sardines contain trace amounts of arsenic. (And since they're wild-caught marine fish, they may also contain trace amounts of mercury.) Joe Rogan mentioned this recently, and he eats sardines a lot, and his doctor found borderline-unsafe levels of arsenic in his blood work. They recommend that you not eat sardines more than 3 or 4 times per week. So... enjoy, but in moderation. ;-)

From the Field to the Laboratory: Air Pollutant-Induced Genomic Effects in Lung Cells. First published online February 18, 2016 "The nine genes that showed significant changes in gene expression in response to ambient air were associated with immune and inflammatory responses - - - Two of these genes were also modulated in response to ozone exposure, namely IL12B and IL11." "For the ozone exposure, both the IL12B and IL11 had increased expression." Does this not mean; air pollution is increasing the process of ageing -> inhibiting IL11 reduces the effect of air pollution on ageing?

Why does the body produce IL-11 -- surely there must be an evolutionary reason why it's made in these circumstances in the first place. Stated another way -- what are the downsides of inhibiting IL-11 at this stage of life?
@trianglesandsquares420
@trianglesandsquares420 2 ай бұрын
That may only be found out in human trials. But nature would maybe have a benefit for killing off generations faster. The older a species is, the slower they evolve after all. Although that's not really tru for 25%, and adulthood would stay the same unless you edited the gene out in vitro. That's a good question though, but honestly if there are minimal side effects sounds like a good deal. The only other thing I can think of is that inflammation can help with fighting infection, but that might be a different kind or less severe. I wonder about il 11's effects on other effects of aging, though. Like, are there or were there conditions it helps with.

IL-11 is a component of SASP. So increased levels of IL-11 in old age might be connected to senescent cell proliferation (or the converse, as well). "Cytokines are key components of SASP, contributing to inflammation and immune modulation. Notable cytokines include: Interleukins: IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, IL-11, and IL-12 Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) Interferons Among these, IL-6 and IL-8 are particularly well-conserved and robust features of SASP, while IL-11 is recognized for its pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic roles."

Oxygen causes aging, so idk how valuable this info is. Seems kinda obvious before the study was even done.

Sunflower oil is omega 3

Sunflower oil has a terrible omera-3 to omega-6 ratio of 0.0079. Per 100 g 0.163 g of omega-3 and 20.6 g of omega-6. So, quite worthless as a source of omega-3. Flaxseed oil has an index of 3.7343 almost acceptable, and gives 14.3 g of omega-3 per 100 g.

If the treatment is equally as effective as some existing drugs, he'll spend 200 000 roubles a month for the rest of his life, die the same day, but early afternoon instead of late morning. Technically, it's a successful treatment.
