@ThunderFist19789 жыл бұрын
Actually, this track isn't 100% the same as the rendition used during the final portion of that battle. Listen to the two together you will notice that the one that plays during the Dracula battle is faster paced at the beginning, but once it gets to the main notes, they become identical.
@TheT3rr0rMask7 жыл бұрын
Pamonhas De Piracicaba It's interesting and awesome that they did that! Also noticed the intro music plays faster in the Japanese version- the same speed as the Dracula fight music. In the US version, we know the intro is really slow compared to the Drac fight version. Apparently the game's director alone did the work for the International version, and slowing down the intro music was an amazing choice alongside changing the whip sound! Sounds way better when slowed down for an intro

The YM2612 was Sega's way of cheapening the system so that it could be marketed at the right price. If Sega used a YM3812 or a YM2151 (both commonly used in arcade game hardware), the sound would have been a lot better and would have gave the SNES sound chip a run for their money.

Games back then were truly something special. Idk, you see nothing as climactic today as when Samus fought Ridley in Super Metroid or fighting Dracula in Castlevania IV and watching him teleport with lightning bolts everywhere and hearing this theme. Games back then were more “blunt” when they decided to be epic and we need that feeling back.

Take a moment to appreciate how the bass supports the synth organ at 0:48. That's one of the best lines I've ever heard in my life, it's so technical that it's clear that the composer spent months of his life on it.
@brandonkallhoff7879 Жыл бұрын
Completely agree. I really like the bass that comes right in the middle of the main riff and continues to back it up to finish out the riff loops. That’s my favorite part of the main riff without a doubt

There's a LOT of gems in (particularly) SNES games that you can tell the composer went to great lengths to write, which sadly do not receive the attention and recognition they deserve.

I remember playing this game when I was 4 or 5 years old, I always sucked and never beat it, but when it released on steam in the anniversary collection I came back when I was 17 and nearly a grown adult and came back and finally beat it around thanksgiving last year for the first time, how I felt was really beyond words. This game and this song is my earliest gaming memory, and I will cherish it until the day I die and beyond.

Chris G I guess the orchestral/"cinematic" approach they take these days just isn't very memorable. But there are some fine tunes that I heard from recent games. If you have the time, check the soundtracks of FarCry 3: Blood Dragon or Hotline Miami, or even the SimCity 2013 soundtrack. The game itself might be shit compared to the rest of the series, but the music is awesome. There's also the main theme from The Wolf Among Us, and some music from XCOM Enemy Unknown, LA Noire, Titanfall (a track or two), Super Hexagon and Alien: Isolation. From this year I recall Spa 24 Hours, from Project CARS... it's a remix from GTR-2 I think, but it's so fucking awesome. Ok, my point is... I agree with you. Newer games, primarily mainstream ones, have a really bland soundtrack. Older games did it better, mainly from 1987 to 1999. But there are some gems between all the shit.

Alex Enschede never heard the music from Mario Galaxy, but I'll definitely check it out. Edit: yup, the whole OST is amazing.

Chris G I don't think it's that games today are bad, it's that Castlevania destroys every other soundtrack. I mean, I play other 8/16-bit games and modern games but Castlevania has to be my favorite in terms of music.

A while ago I found my old snes under my bed as I was cleaning my room, and I was super pissed because I thought I had lost it, and I had sold all the games... but there was a cartridge still in it... it was castlevania XD

When that music plays, the monsters in the castle already know they are worth a damn. One of the best games of the classic SNES.

I adore the fact that the game both starts and ends with this theme. Dracula is a very tough opponent but then when you've finally got him on the ropes this song kicks in and screams to you "YOU'VE GOT THIS MAN! FINISH THE JOB!".

I was 5, or 6 years old, when I first played this game. The soundtrack was printed in stone on my memory then. I'm 37 now, and I still have to come back and listen to the soundtrack until I get an ear worm for the rest of the day.

Both Indiana Jones & Simon Belmont(both their respective themes) make one feel heroic. Actually, it was admitted that Simon himself was based offa Indy himself(whip attacks, of course); so no coincidences there ;)! Lol
