If anyone is struggling to quit nicotine, I have quit this year after 15 years of smoking and then vaping, by listening to Alan Carrs easy way audiobook. Theres a few outdated concepts in there and I was really skeptical even while listening to it, but considering I'd been REALLY struggling for weeks beforehand to give up, as soon as I finished the book, I put the vape down, and somehow it did just seem easy, I wasnt tempted any more. That was over two months ago and still so proud of myself and amazed how much that book helped me so for anyone wanting to give up, I would highly reccomend giving Alan Carr a try.

Thanks for this - I’ve been struggling with vaping but dipped around a bit with smoking last year due to a mix of peer influence and poor impulse control. I’ll definitely give Alan Carr’s work a read or listen. It’s just those first few days and couple weeks and weeks without it I’ve struggled with.

@cojoes1423 Awesome, you definately should! I struggled the same, would lie in bed at night unable to sleep thinking I needed a vape. But then after listening to the book...suddenly I didn't feel like I needed it! And when somethings helped you so much, you just want EVERYONE to know so it can help them too! Let me know how you get on, good luck!

i dont know if i have adhd but i know i easily get addicted, i had alcohol issues and i only recently stopped smoking, which was the longest one i had to deal with, quit many times and couldnt put it down for good. im an obsessive person in general but fortunately i realized that early enough so i could get sober and i managed to keep saying no to drugs. im addicted to caffeine tho and to shopping i think, and to watching series/anime/movies/whatever so i dont have to deal with reality.

I think if you have already struggled with addiction, there's a slightly more chance that you could get addicted to the adhd meds. It's not really something I'd worry about but it definitely is possible, especially with Ritalin, that's one which a few of my friends with ADHD who have previously struggled with addiction have abused. ofc others can also be addictive and ofc a lot of ppl don't get addicted to the meds. This is just talking from personal knowledge, I haven't had any abuse with my adhd meds and it's not something that should deter someone from medication bc meds are really important and helpful for adhd. I personally don't think that adhd meds up the chance of addiction, I think previous addiction experiences up the chance of abusing adhd meds. But I think that's the same with any medication, if you've struggled with substance abuse and you're taking a drug, there's always the chance of abusing that substance. But medications are an important part of treatment, foundation for improvement, and just overall management of mental illnesses or disabilities and are definitely positive, like everything else in terms of treatment...every approach works differently depending on the individual, it's important to find what works best for you

I have ADHD and for me the meds just help me do things. I don't think I could ever abuse them or get addicted to them because they simply don't produce a pleasurable "high" for me. I prefer how I feel when I'm off them and only take them when I need to get work done and want to do so without nearly crying out of exhaustion and frustration.

I mean. Is being slightly more able to do things like neurotypical people addicting? There is no chemical dependency, so it must be an addiction created from feeling good as a result of the medication. Which is basically being slightly less distractable, or slightly more able to get out of being paralysed while trying to make yourself do a task.

My meds have helped me w addiction. I don’t get the cravings for excitement and adventure like I did before. In a perfect world I wouldn’t take meds, but I have a desk job that I need to keep and they definitely help with that. Maybe when I retire I can stop and be my true self.

Addiction rates are higher for queer people and neurodivergent people which sucks for me being both trans and having ADHD because I ended up with a drinking problem lmao (I'm not totally sober now but I would consider myself recovered- I pretty much only drink on special occasions). I'm very careful about what habits I let myself develop these days (even with minor stuff like taking paracetamol regularly) because quitting was a nightmare and I never want to have to go through that again lol. I've got massive sympathy for anyone struggling with any substance or gambling addictions.

I’m diagnosed autistic, which I know is often comorbid with ADHD, but I have no idea if I’m actually AuDhD or not. I still struggle to figure out what’s an overlap/similarity and what’s comorbidity. If I use something, but it doesn’t impact me negatively and I can control when I use it; that’s not addiction? Even if I use it most days in small amounts? I’m not negatively impacted any more than usual (due to potential sensory overload etc) on the days I don’t use it. If largely it’s safe, regulated and brings happiness/stability when used at certain times…that’s not considered addiction right? Weed was briefly mentioned, but it had me thinking. I want to be wary of addiction and figuring out at what point it becomes reliance and whether reliance is inherently bad…or if there’s a level of reliance to be wary of. I talk to their professionals, but that only goes so far and I have to keep myself in check. If it’s helping me, that’s good right? - New Medical THC user (legal) (Oil under tongue and dried flower) My next prescription is due soon and I’m not even half way through. I’m getting the next one for free, as an alternative to refunding something they couldn’t, otherwise I wouldn’t bother. When I next talk to them I can maybe see about replacing/reducing how much they give me. I want to think that’s a good sign 😂 It just didn’t make sense to /not/ get my money’s worth for the next one 😂 why ask for less when you’re not paying this time around? I should add - they offered me the larger volume options and I said no. Ps- I’m sure this wall of waffle made the autism abundantly clear 😆 Self aware, but only after the fact. However, let’s keep it authentic 🤪

I mean yes, the impact on your life is definitely important arguably the most. Other than that it's also, could you go without?
@threeofeight197

I think the line is whether or not it negatively impacts your life. But be careful that you’re not deceiving yourself. Maybe you’re spending way too much much money on it or maybe it’s affecting you in other ways. Just be aware and keep an eye on it. And listen/be open to friends or family if they have concerns.
