Scion tC (Painting Rims)

I filmed my friends stock Scion tC rims before and after a paint job. He cleaned and painted three coats on each rim. He used "Black Gloss Duplicolor Engine Block Paint". We recommend priming before the black coat but our local auto body store didn't carry any at the time.

I got a 2005 tC for my 16th birthday last summer. I love this car! its the best car I've ever driven, and I've driven like 15 different cars. My dad is gonna trade this one in so I can get a brand new tC or FR-S for Christmas. Scions are fucking awesome.

i just sanded down any chips or scrapes to make is nice and smooth so the paint layed down nicely. If you dont sand it down, the paint will not go on right. Then scrub/wash them really well and make sure to dry the rims completely.

You live and you learn. It looks good for now, but like most guys said it will chip since you didn't sand and prime. But I'll go ahead and throw you a thumbs up for doing it with a cast on ;)

i was going to, but my local Kragen didn't have any clean coat. Its been about 3+ months now and i have had absolutely no chipping. you just have to make sure and put a bunch of thin coats with about 20 minutes in between.

yeah, it wasn't shot in my video but yeah sand down all the rough/curb scraches or else the paint won't go on right, in those spots. Also primer would be great but its tough to find rim primer.

You are supposed to use sand paper and use a prime surfacer,so the paint sticks better and dont get pealled off after some days,as it will happens. And you better apply some layers of clear,at least two of them to protect and make the paint look more shiny.

Thats what I did to my rims on my 2002 Mustang GT. Professionaly painted = $100 When I did it myself = $5.00 and they look just as good.

mine i bought like this but weren't sanded and primer eventually the paint started fading and coming off. probably used the wrong paint also but looks good props

@XxBLONDiE2OxX his probably chipped EXTREMELY fast. i did mine(the right way of course) 2 and a half years ago, and i only have a couple knicks, no chips. mind you i do A LOT of canyon driving. if you sand, prime, paint, and clear you should be good. if you dont have experience with spraying, dont do it.

hey guys i just painted my rims and when i sanded it down i forgot to wipe all the loose dust off. Now my rims look good but have a sandy finish on them. Is this ok or am i seriously fucked? should i sand them again wipe all the dust off and paint them again?
