Today's music was already on a downward spiral when this came out. I remember seeing it on Jonathan Ross on BBC1 before they kicked him out. It was one of those that were great to hear because it was like some light in the darkness - if we look past the lyrics (Nanna's a great writer - I think it's pretty much her band). The monotony of today's music is depressing though. I've noticed in the UK that one well-established station in particular has started playing more 90s music since there's a new station dedicated solely to 90s music; must be getting some competition for listeners there. But that kind of returning trend gives us some hope for the future of music too, and autotune be damned.

Hoplessly Bitter it’s valid to mourn the person he used to be to you. It’s just as valid to cherish fond memories you had with him, even if he isn’t the same or you’ve been hurt by him. You can keep with you the happiness you used to have being around him in the past as it is to realize he isn’t a person you need to be around now. This is the actual meaning of the song "How we usually make our lyrics is, Raggi and I, sometimes we come up with stories or situations. That one is about a relationship. Sometimes we haven't wanted to give too much away. We like people to read their own things in the lyrics. I guess I could share it. It's about a couple and the husband passed away and it's from the conversation between the two of them. We don't know if she's going crazy or if someone's actually there. We've kind of been inspired by people that lived in my house. This old couple that lived there for 30 years. The woman passed away, so it was kind of different." - Hilmarsdóttir

My Grandma is about to die of COVID-19 tonight. She has also been suffering from dementia for years. Her husband, 92, will survive her. I cant help but match nearly every lyric in this whole song to their situation. The husband in the song is unable to tell her that he is there for her even though she cant see him. My Grandma didn't see her husband for 7 weeks because of mandatory isolation cause she tested positive. (they were finally re-united briefly today once the doctors realized they couldn't save her) Grandma: Some days I can't even trust myself (not remembering who anyone is) Papa: It's killing me to see you this way Grandma: There's an old voice in my head that's holding me back (dementia) Papa: Well tell her that I miss our little talks (when they used to be able to have meaningful conversations) Grandma: Some days I don't know if I am wrong or right (not knowing what she is doing) Papa: Your mind is playing tricks on you, my dear Grandma: Don't listen to a word I say The screams all sound the same Papa: You're gone, gone, gone away (watching her slip into dementia) I watched you disappear (not being able to see her because of iso) All that's left is the ghost of you (their memories of each other) Grandma: Now we're torn, torn, torn apart (missing him in iso) There's nothing we can do (It's over, I'm dying) Just let me go we'll meet again soon (In heaven) Papa: Now wait, wait, wait for me (when he met her today in the ICU) Please hang around (wishing this wasn't his final goodbye) Grandma: I'll see you when I fall asleep Both: Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore Goodbye Grandma, we love you.

i once dated a girl who was struggling with completely undiagnosed and untreated schizophrenia. she was a lovely woman, i was really in love with her, but some of the more destructive, hurtful voices she heard ended up hurting both of us and wrecking the relationship beyond repair. this song makes me think of her. especially the titular line- the voices controlling her say "there's an old voice in my head that's holding me back" and i, missing the person in question and wishing she'd take control again, reply "well, tell her that i miss our little talks".

There is no doubt that when you first hear Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men that you will get swept up by the upbeat tempo, the tooting horns, the beautiful harmonies and the true artistry of the song. However, you are definitely missing out if you do not really listen to or read the Little Talks lyrics. The song is up to the interpretation of those who hear it and yet for me the answer seems to be breathtakingly sweet. The song tells the story of a couple that has survived life’s trials and reached an old age together. They are now fighting a losing battle as the female struggles with some sort of mental disorder, be it Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, or depression. Both of them are struggling with the woman losing her grasp on reality and the knowledge that one way or another they will soon be completely separated. One of the main lines of the song “Though the Truth may vary, the ship will carry our bodies safe to shore” tell that even though they may both seen the world differently they will both end up in the same place. One day they will both be on the other side and together the way they used to be. For me the song makes me think of the movie The Notebook, where the husband reads the book every day to his wife just to bring her back for those few moments. In the song, the man is trying to tell her about their life together, about how their house is not a scary place and that outside is where they used to play and not a place to be buried. He is struggling to bring her back and yet he realizes that he cannot win. The song is very heartfelt and seems to contrast with the bouncy and upbeat sound of the music. The music video has a darker feel to coincide with the lyrics, but at the same time has a fun and crazy feel as everything just gets twisted into this fantastic creatures and adventures. Little Talks features lyrics that are anything but simple or little while the music of the song is just completely fun and energetic. The contrast seems to be off-putting until you realize that whatever the heroes of the story are going through now, the ship does eventually carry them both safety to shore where they can be together.

In my take, the song is melancholy and, at times, quite depressing. It's a somber song hidden in upbeat, happy-go-lucky music. I never understood why anyone would rob the intense emotions with dance music. I think it should have been kept somber. Not made happy and exciting. Then again, you can't sell a sad song to the ignorant masses when all they want is mindless dance music.

I remember listening to this song on the radio back when I was little. One night, my mom and I looked up the lyrics since I used to try to sing along. She never told me about all of them, so I never really knew how depressing the words were. Coming back to the song now, I remember all the good memories I used to have with her. Things are a lot different now. I feel she doesn’t really accept me for who I am or who I believe I am. I wanna tell her how everyday feels the same. I feel so tired and unmotivated yet everyone’s pushing me to succeed and so I try to. I want to talk to somebody, I wish I could talk to her. But I feel as if she’ll only shut me out.

To me this song is about a brother and his little sister. She was in an accident with the parents; the parents died tragically in front of her. That caused her psychosis. The brother came back to take care of his little sister and try and help her cope. The song describes her delusions and his attempts at comforting her along with his own pain from the situation.

This song reminds me of a girl that was in my grade 5 class who happened to be a newbie to the school. She was very beautiful girl and even did very great in her grades, however because she moved around so much, she never truly had any friends and didn't feel the need to since they probably wouldn't remember her. This further lead into the rest of the class hating her, however one day I came up to her and said that 'despite the lack of trust you have with others, I still see you as a friend who's trying to open up to others... and Im glad to know somebody who's willing to break from her shell and try to make friends again.' of course she didn't like me at the time but eventually she opened up and even became somewhat close. Until during the last week of school she told me she had to move again and won't see me again... However, she told me no matter the distance, she would forever remember me... as I would forever remember her.

A quick explanation: "I don't like walking around this old and empty house So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear" She is lost without him for he died, she can't see him but he can see her and he didn't realize he's dead yet. "The stairs creak as I sleep, It's keeping me awake. It's the house telling you to close your eyes" He still doesn't realize he's a ghost she can't sleep when thinking about him because she misses him too much. "And some days I can't even trust myself. It's killing me to see you this way" She wants to kill herself so they can be together again but since he doesn't know he's dead he think she's being suicidal for no reason. "'Cause though the truth may vary. This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore" She wants to die so she can be with him but he's stopping her from ending her life because he want's to see her happy. "There's an old voice in my head That's holding me back. Well tell her that I miss our little talks" The 'old voice' is him telling her not to kill herself but he does not know that he is speaking to her over the afterlife. "Soon it will all be over, and buried with our past. We used to play outside when we were young, And full of life and full of love." She is still thinking about killing herself as he is stopping her subconsciously making her remember the good times they shared. "Some days I don't know if I am wrong or right. Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear" She doesn't know what to do: go on with her life or kill herself so she can be with her lover. "Don't listen to a word I say" She's telling him not to listen to her because she's going through with it. "The screams all sound the same" Her internal demons are telling her to kill herself while he's telling her not to. "You're gone, gone, gone away, I watched you disappear All that's left is a ghost of you." he realizes that he's dead and she's trying to kill herself. "Now we're torn, torn, torn apart, there's nothing we can do, Just let me go, we'll meet again soon" She's telling him that they are far apart but he's reassuring her that they will eventually meet up over natural causes. "Now wait, wait, wait for me, please hang around I'll see you when I fall asleep" He's telling her to wait for him because soon they will see each other again but she's telling him she'll see him sooner when she 'falls asleep" (kills herself.) and eventually goes through with it.

I really relate to this song in and odd way. I struggle with BPD, Borderline Personality Disorder. I struggle with accepting love as one of the many flaws. Some days I feel like myself, other days I feel like someone completely different and I push people away. "I don't like walking around this old and empty house." So hold my hand I'll Walk with you my dear." Being alone can be a trigger, having someone on off days just makes everything so much better. "Some days I don't know if I am alright" "Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear", is a reminder that its in my head, my boyfriend does love me. "Don't listen to a word I say.." because I have days where I beg him to leave me for someone better. " Wait for me, please hang around. I'll see you when I fall asleep." He stays and sleeps next to me every night. Then the "He's!" remind me of my doubts.. We are in a very healthy relationship, I am getting proper help, just reminds me of myself. Mental health is very important. Loving someone with Mental Illness can be very challenging, but him and I work through it the best we can. We make the most of everyday. Sorry for the rant! This is just my interpretation of the song and how I connect with it.

In an interview with the singers, they said that the song was inspired by a man and a woman who had lived together to an old age. When the woman died, the man was heartbroken. They swapped the genders but the rest of the song is about this relationship and the death of a loved one.

Husband has died, yes. Widow is grieving. She is not insane or depressed. To outsiders, the Widow's behaviour may appear as though she is depressed or insane, especially if the death was sudden or tragic. Grief at this level is very different. The Widow could stay here for some time, but eventually she will move through this stage.

For me, this song means this: A girl was living with her boyfriend. He dies in some tragic accident while the girl is helpless and watching. The ghost is trying to comfort her through her grief and confusion. "The screams all sound the same" bit to me means that they think each others screams sound the same as to when he died. This is a sad song, but a good one. It has depth, and Of Monsters and Men have amazing voices.

There are some songs that are like a little jar of emotion: the artist pours all the feelings in their heart into the song; seals it like a jar, and then when you listen to it, all that stored emotion flows out like scented smoke. And it all hits you at once -- and it feels, for a moment, like you're the artist. You get a small idea of what might have compelled the artist to create such a thing. This is one of those songs.

This song reminds me of the titanic. Two lovers are forced to watch the ship to down as they try to stay alive. "The screams all sound the same." They are talking about the screams of people. " I'll see you when I fall asleep. " They will see each other once they are dead. "The stairs creak, I should sleep, it's keeping me awake.." They are talking about the sounds of the crash. " it's the house telling you to close your eyes. " Her lover saying we will die.

Reminds me of my high school escapades with my ex-best friend. We felt like we could conquer the world together but then I went ahead and did the things we were dreaming about and she didn't, she chose to settle and we slowly grew apart. people really need to listen to this song and realize the true meaning... it brought me to tears to feel like i actually relate to it. i had a couple of particular phrases in my mind that made me realize the meaning of this song. The woman in this song could have a disorder, whether it would be Alzheimer, schizophrenia, or depression. The couple obviously are facing song struggle in their relationship and he is helping her with her problems. They used to be different people as they grew older they began to change much more. towards the end i assume the lady looses the man, she then feels crushed from losing the one who can understand her, she experiences this trauma and thinks that one day she will join him in that place btw its 3:48 in the morning i get really emotional

this song makes me think of an internet best friend that i loved to pieces, she was so funny and we were such good friends, she meant the world to me, but an incident happened that impacted my personal life, and i can no longer talk to her. i genuinely miss her so much, and wish things were the way they were before, i do love her to bits, we would talk for hours on end daily. not so much little talks lol but i do miss it, i was much happier during then, but i guess life moves on. i love her so much but things happen for a reason. we have both moved on a believe to other friends but we miss eachother a lot and if we could talk we would, ive seen her in my dreams a few times, and if you've taken the time to read this, thank you, if something similar has happened to you, remember, everyone moves on and everything happens for a reason. i love you all including dirt 💞💖

Coincidentally found this song a day before my closest internet connection committed suicide... what a 2020... Edit: Alright so I’m sorry to say it but they pulled that move where they just disappeared for like a week and popped back like “hey I’m not dead” and acted like an asshole about it. I’m glad they’re alive but that shit changed a lot of things.

I've lost two very close people to suicide, and I'm only 17. It's quite traumatic. I'm sorry for your loss.

Machina Instrumentum Luckily they’re still here, I was just led under a false belief 🙄

Damn, they sound so toxic. How are you dealing with them now?

Peach Paty We’re chill again but we weren’t talking the same for a straight month. I’m not gonna take suicide threats seriously anymore though, and I won’t blame myself for feeling that way if any of them turn out to be real. We’re still close since it’s still nice to have someone to talk to, but that experience damaged a ton. He apologized eventually, quite a few times, but when I think about it I’m never really over it.
