You can actually deduct that if you think about it. They have to do three things. They can only hunt if they have a way of moving which for fish is obviously answer C, bouncing. Then D is also correct. And if they eat on land, they also have to breathe somehow. If A would really be correct, either C and D would be a waste of energy, or simply impossible.

That logic doesn't work. Being able to move on land, or breathe air, does NOT necessitate that they MUST hunt on land. There are several fishes that can move on land, or breathe air, that doesn't mean they hunt as well.

In general, test-taking skills of "well, those two answers are so similar they rule each other out" were much more helpful this episode than the more modern ones. For the final question in particular: Either they hunt for food on land or they bounce around with their tails (probably both; hunting is one of the relatively few reasons to bounce around, and to hunt you need to move around somehow). That's not compatible with a metabolic activity which is *very* lowered.

B, C, and D all coincided - the fish can't hunt on land without being able to breathe without gills, it can't survive on land without being able to hunt, and it can't move on land without bouncing using their tails. I learned about the herring farts not in a classroom but in the real world. I used to hunt and catch them when they were spawning during my high school years. I had a herring run right near my house where I could go and watch them all day/night if I wanted to. I also noted that eels frequently traveled the run as well. I loved to stand in the run and practice catching eels by hand. I did catch a few that way. That one was a protected run so no catching herring allowed there but there were other runs nearby where restricted catching was allowed. Once I reached the maximum allowed I went home with my catches. :) - Heidi

Call me a terrible person for saying this but I'm going to say it: In the double or nothing round, Ceri couldn't have bet more than 600 points so her final total couldn't be more than 1200. If Hank bet any amount less than 200, he would win even if he missed the last question. Hank gambled a guaranteed win at the end and came out not quite the sole winner.

But I think you guys should think about doing a specialty quiz where you match two people up who are in the same field and quiz them on hard questions on their field.
