Great video, I recently picked up a vintage 8 inch Sanmann pair of scissors with black handles. They don't look like barber shears, I wanna say they are fabric shears. Problem is, somewhere down the line they were badly resharpened and took off so much steel, that they changed the factory angle. I can't determine the proper angle. Every pair of scissor's I have seem to have a different angle. Any suggestions on what angle I should recut? I can't mess them up anymore than they already are. Lol Thanks

Beautiful work, as always sir! Do you usually go up to 9 micron on all grooming shears or just the convex ones?
@JimSharpBlog2 жыл бұрын
Actually I rarely go over a 15, but this one had such heavy scratches on the surface I went one extra step; which actually didn’t help much to be honest.

How does one get into sharpening school? I went thru grooming school and my fiance is looking for a profession... we dont have allot of local sharpeners and the one we use is super expensive and not the best results. My shears dull after 4 days or so and thats not good. I find myself sharpening every 2 months but 1.5 months im grooming with dull shears so my speed is effected.

Hello, do you sell the handle bender. I've never got into bending handles because I'm afraid of breaking them.
@JimSharpBlog2 жыл бұрын
You can get them from Dennis at Hamaguri USA. There is a link in the drop down box under the video.

Hey Jim, great video!! I have a question; I have had so many shears come through that were not at 45°, I have had some as low as 30°. When bringing them to 45° I feel I am taking a lot of material off. Would you say it's better to match the angle, gradually bring the angle to 45°, or just cut it to 45° right away? Thanks Jim
@JimSharpBlog2 жыл бұрын
Either way will work, but the better answer would be make it 45 degrees if it should be 45 degrees. You are taking off a good bit of metal, but it’s mostly off the face of the blade, so you’re not taking more “life” off the shear. How you take that metal off quickly and properly would be a good topic for another video. I’ll see about getting one worked up for you.

@@JimSharpBlog Holy cow Jim, great answer!! That's why you're the expert! Makes total sense and I look forward to the video should you choose to create one on this topic.

Hey Dr. J. I'm not sure if I missed it but have you ever shown your Sharpening van? I 'd be interested to see how you ser it up. Also how tall are you? I'm a bit over 6" and trying to figure what's gonna be the best bet.

6" is average. You're good, bro.

I want to get into shear sharpening but the flat hones are soooo pricey. Any suggestions?
@JimSharpBlog2 жыл бұрын
I understand, but the pay back from buying units like this can be pretty quick. For instance, you can pay for a Kleen machine like the one you see in this video after you’ve sharpened just 132 shears at just $25/ shear. That’s the low average for sharpening beauty shears in the USA. That means if you hustle and get just 6 shears per day to sharpen you can pay yourself back in a month. I sell all the flat hones I rep at a discount, and there are a couple of other less pricey options, but for that info you’ll need to reach out to my via email at otenews@gmail.com.
