You don't speak for everyone, please don't. While I love the original cast of these series, the issues that by the end of their run that basically humanity was God tier technologically is a real problem. They pretty much made any continuation have to either come up with a plausible explanation to regress technology or what you have is not something with the intrinsic DNA of what Stargate was supposed to be. Once you get to a situation where Stargates themselves were no longer central to the story when you can just get in a ship or ships and fly there and then erase stuff from orbit then a big part of what made Stargate different from Star Trek or Star Wars or other similar grand universe spanning franchises is lost. If you want new Stargate and for it not just be boring formulaic rehashes of any other Sci Fi show then actually a reboot is really the way to go especially as most of the original cast are getting near the point where they aren't going to be available anyway.

I hear your arguments, and I still say the same: *Noone asks for a reboot.* Either continuation or a parallel story - that's all *everyone* want. If these writers can't deliver - kick them out, and get someone competent. Incompetent writers already folded a few universes (see: The Witcher, GoT, Veronica Mars Reboot, MacGyver Reboot, 2008 Knight Rider Reboot, 4400 Reboot, etc.) - why those people never learn? Writers who *don't get it* should be kicked on the spot, instead of letting their "creativity" ruin the universes with reboots / departures from the experience people loved. And you really can create a new show in the same universe. Heck: you don't even need to follow Earth! Be creative, make up a planet, and tell the story about slavery by Goa'uld, or some nomadic tribe that moves through the gates / on starships trying to escape major factions, or... whatever else. There's soooo many possibilities. Stargate is much like 40k - any planet you can think of might be located in this universe.

As long as it's not given the Disney Star Wars treatment or the star trick STD treatment or the rings of power treatment or any of those diseases in failed entertainment form. However, I don't think that's something they're capable of avoiding. At least not in this paradigm. So, I would like the fans to rally to prevent it until the paradigm has shifted. Right now, the ones in control of all of these franchises who actually want them to continue or be rebooted in this paradigm with all the c*** media they're putting out are executives who have never watched the show. Read the books and are not science fiction fans to begin with. You might as well tell one of these executives to strip down their limousine's engine and then put it back together. And you would have just as good a chance of getting a good show out of them as you would them having an engine that works at the end of that process. The executives in control right now have no business being in control of the science fiction franchise. These executives all went to Business School. Or law school, they have never been in the entertainment industry until they landed their job behind that desk of that company that happens to put out entertainment media. When they go back and they review many of these same companies records what they look at that actually has things that come in and seem to make money are shows like Seinfeld, Friends, Breaking Bad because they were prime time entertainment, not science fiction shows. So what they will do is they will take these science fiction shows and they will turn it into sex in the city breaking bad or friends, just in a science fiction setting with social anxed. And trying to push forward whatever they see as the social talking pointhe of today, which is exactly what they did with Star Trek STD. Transforming it from a utopia post scarcity civilization into a dystopia racist sexist scarcity driven civilization with enslaved androids. That seem to have a Romulan immigration problem.😂

There could even be also some episodes shown from the main reality trying to make contact with this lost Stargate Character. You could have Janet! You cold have various old faces re-appear but also have some things be arbitrarily different. That could work but it would by part of the same multiverse, part of the continuum so to speak. It could be really fun, fix all the problems with being too powerful and certainty, and it creates a mystery, who did this, why, it creates a real challenge. And you could totally have episodes where it is about the continuity we are familiar with and episodes in this alternate reality, you could still bring anyone back willing to work or lend their likeness, you could use archival footage of those departed and potentially get permission to use their family's permission for very modest scenes, as it's back in time and playing with alternate realities and times you can bring them in. There are many different ways to do this and all of them are going to be fun and mysterious. you get nostalgia, you get to explore the overpowered and underpowered different and unchanged, the old and the new, er, aged... But one other thing that could happen is maybe the SGC helps resurrect the Asgard and fixes there cloning issue and with the the Asgard core and there repository of knowledge and that program Thor was working on they can basically just transplant there minds into new bodies (maybe replicator bodies and maybe they can be the new big bad) and once resurrected they will take back some of the stuff they installed on the USS Odyssey

The main reason I'd like a continuation is *because* it's difficult. I want to see something new, I want to see how stargates and spaceships and a giant alien city changed the world. That's top-grade sci-fi right there. But yes, a hard reboot would be just as welcome.

On the IMDB site under both Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, it shows both have Stargate listed as upcoming projects. Not sure how accurate or up to date this is.

Honestly the best of both worlds is to make a new show in the same universe with ‘new’ characters… gives them the lore to pull from but doesn’t tie them to anything. Hardest thing is coming up with a villain/enemy/conflict to drive the story. As much as I would love it, I don’t know if individual episodic storytelling like old stargate or tng would work for the streaming audience under 30
@mirceastan49223 ай бұрын
It's not a solution per se but to resolve the technology issue that stargate had by the end of the series they could just say that even though we have the asgard database to access each item in it we would need to pass a test to show that we are ready for it as a safeguard to prevent our own selfdestruction by advancing to quickly. Or the database could just be somehow stolen from us before we could learn too much from it by the Vanir (pegassus asgard splinter group - if they're still around), some other unknown asgard group in the universe or any other race powerfull with either subterfuge (insert any mimicry race either already encountered or not) or raw might that in a surprise attack overwhelms our defenses. (Could be furlings 😀). The first episode could be like the pilot episode of stargate sg1 but instead of stealing a person the villain steals or asgard tech DB.😀

thanks for the update....I`m not surprised by the news. scifi fanbase has now the reputation cannibalizing shows. I had discussion with friend about the law and order franchise and I ask him if the fanbase complained as mush and to they prefer the leads to look like brad Pitt. He said no we love the concept innovation how can you not relate to other people. We are on verge of loosing star trek, we lost Halo and stargate is still born. Time we scifi fan learn to give shows a chance to mature by being more constructive!

I always enjoy and look forward to your updates and comentary, lol, even though they are emotionally and mentally exhausting to listen to at times. In my opinion, a hard reboot would not be my preferred choice as I see potential problems with that, which could result in alienating the franchises' current fan base if not done properly with respect to the established canon to the body of work. If crafted well, and with the fans in mind, and directed in such a way that it respects the foundation of StarGate, then perhaps a full reboot could work. But if Amazon and MGM approach this with blinders on, I don't think they will get the desired results that they're hoping for. In my opinion, they're working for us, the fans, we pay their salaries, we decide if they've failed or if they've succeeded. The fact that they're still seemingly undecided as to which direction they're going to go, and when, tells me that they're not really looking at this project with the complete interests of the fans in mind. If they were, we would already be on the 10th season of their latest installment to the franchise, as well as two or three cinematic movies. This is not that difficult of an issue to resolve. Bring back as many of the original creators, directors, and writers of the show as you can. Bring back as many of the main characters/actors as you can in whatever capacity that works, and just make it happen because it seems that everyone from the creators to the fans wants this to happen yesterday, everyone that is except for the ones in charge of giving it a green light.

How about a story where earth is destroyed or enslaved, maybe by the wraith/replicators/ori? The only people that can help are the furling's, but where are they? The remaining SG teams, operating from the beta site, have to join forces with former foes, Ashen, remaining Goa'uld, and the Atlantis team in order to save the planet and the milky way. They figure out, the Furling's left the known Galaxy's But the SGU team might have some info that can help. Can they be found? Can earth be saved?

Stargate is one of the last sci-fi franchises left that has not been ruined by modern day politics and ideology. It must be protected from the same vandalization we have seen inflicted on so many other beloved stories. Best it is left alone until all this woke insanity has finished dying off.

Definite continuation as there are many loose ends in SG-1 like replicators 4 million light years away. Did the Tolan escape? What if there is a goa'uld that left the Milky Way who is more dangerous than anubis and is on the way back? What happened when Atlantis came back to Earth? There are many story lines. ( :

There is one problem with a reboot that I just thought of. A reboot will close the door to a continuation. When they made SG1 they closed the door to a movie sequel. When they made Battlestar Galactica they closed the door to a continuation of the original series.

@Basura_Desechable3 ай бұрын
A reboot isn't necessary at all. If all you need is to nerf the humans, it's the easiest thing to do. Even with the Asgard inheritance, we lack access to resources they had and their production capabilities. It takes a long time to understand new concepts and even more to adopt them into production. Atlantis was a 'CITY SHIP', not a factory, it may contain some limited production in labs for prototyping, but can't build new ships or drones, and their knowledge/technology is even harder to understand and replicate so it will take years/decades/centuries to catch up with them. They could go public an share the workload with the world to speed up advancements, or keep the secret and limit the budget to slow down development. They could use either to raise or solve problems. Just with that you have the humans possessing a couple of advanced ships that can't be everywhere and must be preserved for study and earth protection, and we are back to exploring in search for resources, allies, more accesible technologies and anything they want to add. It's just a matter of figuring out where and how you want to put the limit and any good storyteller should be able to do it. The only thing they lack is true commitment to the project.

How the hell could a hard Stargate reboot work? BSG(2004) worked as a hard reboot because it was more of a modern TV quality upgrade VS the older show of the late 1970's. Stargate has a more recent 1994-2018 foundation to built on, if they disregard all than cannon of those shows and films. Are thay going to remake episode by episode but worse than the older shows gave us? like Disney Star Wars trying to sneek crap knock off's past us.

I Agee with viewpoint that we want a continuation, however it's been almost 15 years since Stargate. It's hard to think that a continuation takes place, unless it's a movie that can reset....And Mamoa would need to be part of that. He can draw tickets and attention to the folks that have never watched the original.

Im all for a reboot if it gets us further along, but would prefer a continuation so we can find out what happens to Eli and the Destiny gang, and what happens with Atlantis from where we leave it in SF Bay. But I can’t stop thinking about the possibilities of a reboot and how cool that potentially could be. As we’re all acknowledged, the problem with the continuation will be creating antagonists that are truly threatening given the capabilities of the Tau’ri as of 2011. A reboot could start before the movie started, or pick up after the movie like SG-1 did. So basically we could get a new story that starts with the first trip through the gate in the mid-late 2020s, assuming that’s when this is added to streaming. Or we could assume the movie happened, and the gate has been in storage since the 90s (30+ years at this point), and we begin with a present day version of Children of the Gods. Or we could get a show that takes place in the 90s… that might be neat, but we do already have that (SG-1). Starting fresh would be an opportunity to explore RE’s earlier ideas for a trilogy and introduce a big bad that is not parasitic in nature. There could be less emphasis on the ancient astronaut theory although I think that would be too far of a turn away from the nature of Stargate. Plus there are so many other angles to explore like the Annunaki and the Book of Enoch in general if we do go that route. Unlike others, I’m not going to complain as long as I get some form of Stargate. I like the Rings of Power as a Silmarilion reader, and I mostly liked Discovery (save for some of the overly dramatic moments), and even enjoyed the Acolyte, so maybe I’m just weird or overly easy to please. 😂

I have nothing against a hard reboot. Yet at the same time, I would say I would like to see some key-characters from sg1/sg-a (won't say sg-u because they are out in the void) make an appearance.

feels like a real version of Stargate Episode "Moebius," creating a world where the Stargate program never existed, and the SG-1 team was never formed. To avoid further disruptions, General Hammond orders that Sam and Daniel be limited to consultant roles only, fearing the potential consequences of further time travel missions. funny how we can extract real life senario's from Epic series plots
@haplozetetic95193 ай бұрын
No reboot very strongly preferred. If there is a reboot, it would have to be sufficiently similar to SG1 and SGA, really well done, and with minimal re-hashing of old stories or I'm out.
@lt.kettch46523 ай бұрын
I’ve been a fan of SG since the movie was in theaters. I watched the shows, and still do. That said: at this point in time, if the show was continued from before it would effectively be a bit of a reboot anyways. The old gang won’t be there, SGC would be under different management, the old enemies would be gone, and none of the older story lines would be around either. That means there would be all new characters in all new story lines, new plot lines, new enemies, new SG teams, new everything. Add to that that we couldn’t go back and add body to the old storylines either. So now the new writers would be forced to pick up in the timeline way past what we have come to know and love, and that wouldn’t really be the same as the old shows Should we reboot, or continue? I don’t have an answer to that. I can see sense in either as long as it’s done well. Imagine the Goauld done in modern effects, same with Asgardians or Replicators. If not rebooted, imagine picking up with Eli as he meets whatever is at the end of his journey.

I think they need to do a present day continuation of some sort. Maybe show what Atlantis is doing in the harbor after 20 years. If they want to do a hard reboot they should wait 40 or 50 years from the original.

Honestly if they did a hard reboot to get it going, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. And realistically in the future there isn't any reason why they couldn't bring out a continuation of old Stargate.

I'd watch whatever comes.. but.. it needs to be good for ANY fans to love it and make any ability to move forward. So naturally.. the fans want to play safe and stick with the world of Stargate we're fans of. And how I would handle the continuation issue.. is bring back the Asguard or.. perhaps the Furlings. They could insist on handing over the technology we had as it was beyond us.
@auraprime_3 ай бұрын
we may have had access to some Asgardian tech however we wouldn’t necessarily be able to replicate it on a mass scale. Most of our stuff would have been stuff home made or looted. Plus what’s powering the Asgardian tech could have it’s limits, we might have to be frugal or it runs out of power only to no longer be usable (unless the plot needs it ofc)
@blackadder5643 ай бұрын
They have the Asgard computer core. They could make all the Asgard tech and power cores they want. They just have to ask the core.

Yeah, the various series went in a totally different direction to anything the original movie had planned. It fundamentally wouldn't be the same universe, so I'm not surprised they aren't interested in playing in someone else's sandbox.

If they're only gonna hard reboot it, I at least hope they do a cartoon to finish off the original shows. That shouldn't be complicated. Could bring back the actors from all shows then. Be nice to have some proper closure from them especially Atlantis and Universe 😅

Truth is there are a lot more non-fans (indifferent, not haters) than fans. TV/movies want a broad appeal, not a niche or small-ish fan base. I'm for a soft reboot, make it where SG-1 goes to a parallel dimension (they did this in the show) but it's our world. They help build a stargate program and find our milky way full of new different aliens & threats. It's good for us because we get the same characters but new stories, new threats and new stuff to do. You can still have the old canon but do something new. You can still have the same characters and same universe and even have episodes that takes place there while also appealing to new viewers.
@SergeiPoroh3 ай бұрын
It's better to film something about the ancients even then. I will definitely look at this with more interest than rebooting the same thing, which has already been revised more than once. I really don't want a reboot. Although in the STARGATE UNIVERSE, it would be cool to replay everything there and adjust it to the whole story of the end of the season, taking into account the past so many years. And, I think, this has not happened yet, and no one has done it. And it would only play into the hands of the continuation of the series. And even very much.
@vishnu_m3 ай бұрын
Harsh truth is that SG tv show made humans quite OP in the end. We battled equivalent of gods not just suoer advanced technologically aliens posing as gods. The bar was so high that any threat after Ori would look blatant. SGU had a chance of being cut off from all that. Now any continuation must resolve that, so no wonder reboot looks more promising in that state of affairs.
@BloPsy_Actual3 ай бұрын
They will have to do some kind of reboot in an alternate universe or something, it is just inevitable after all this time that has passed - As much as I would like a continuation of SGA, it is not possible. And even though I like SGU, it is really not worth the risk of trying to continue it since it is so different from the original stargate.
@DeepThought423 ай бұрын
The problem with a hard reboot is they could lose the essence of Stargate, what makes it special and different from other scifi shows, it's humour and possitivity (suitable to watch when life's tough and you don't want to get depressed), edgy without being dark etc. As for resolving the issue of SG1 Asgardian tech etc. Just some imagination, I mean this is scifi, you can do anything. Foes with more advanced tech than the Asgard. Like featured in SGU - the ones that built that planet around a sun too young to have formed naturally. The tech drones wiping other races of high tech out, even the Destiny didn't cope with them. Or a race like the one who created the drones ( or the enemy they were fighting). Many ideas along those lines.

Hard reboot or continuation? I think the fans of the show would not like a hard reboot but they need to do something different. I personally think SG-1 ended after season 8. I cannot stand season 9 and 10. I did like SG: Continuum. I do not have an answer but I hope if they do a new series it is not like Nu Trek after Enterprise.
@AlexM-qz8cy3 ай бұрын
Was OP by the end. Yet the original did explore multiverse concepts and the actors did a great job making it convincing. Maybe it could work with some of them finding there way into another one where the gate hadn't been discovered until recently due to international conflict and start from there. We get some new cast without overtaxing guest stars from the original.
@peterd7883 ай бұрын
The rights to the original TV show were a little complex but I don't think that's the case going forward After a few seasons the SciFi channel couldn't afford to fund it so it became a co-commission between SciFi and Sky UK with SciFi getting first rights to half a season and Sky UK getting them for the other half. MGM kept the IP. A similar situation exists with Doctor Who but the BBC retains ownership of the IP even though Disney Branded Entertainment is the primary commissioner. All of these deals expire and MGM owns the rights to Stargate.

Continuation is much more preferred, but if it swings the other way and a reboot proves to be unsuccessful, the studio should be able to easily swing it back to the original sg-1 series universe, since the multiverse is already established...a-la Spiderman No Way Home...

If anyone reboots the Stargate the best they can do is a variant of SGI, but make it tied into the canon rather than having a "dragon lady" able to activate and operate a Stargate they think is an Ancient. If they use the advanced reverse-engineered technology and improved base like in Stargate Infinity they could either reconnect with older worlds or have loosely-related societies we've never seen before, or another SG:A-type spinoff with another outside the Milky Way outpost. If someone wants to "reboot" the series or franchise do an alternate reality, maybe a what-if style storyline and change the plot like Star Trek's Mirror Universe such as one of the alternate SG teams from "Ripple Effect"

reboot would be fine, if done well. (so not to likely) would have to have at least some great cameos. Would rather see some form of continuation, in Atlantis they did some cross universe stuff, so could continue from one of the others, where some stuff maybe did not happen, aka can CHANGE some of the worst stuff out.
