History Adventures takes you to Bloody Ridge also known as Edson’s Ridge on Guadalcanal in this episode. The Battle of Edson’s Ridge would take place from September 12 to the morning of September 14, 1942. This would be one of the most intense battles during the Guadalcanal Campaign when greatly outnumbered US Marines put up a heroic defense of the ridge. In this episode we will give you a brief history of the battle and then take you on a walk around the area.
We will visit locations on Bloody Ridge and walk around the area so the viewer gets a much better understanding of the battle.

A combination of the history books and your videos brings the stories alive better than any Hollywood production can. Seeing the wide shots and the closer in shots in HD truly brings history alive

I have a cousin that was KiA during this battle. Raymond Frybarger, Jr., born 22 April 1923 in Toledo, Ohio, enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve 22 April 1940. Private First Class Frybarger was killed in action on Guadalcanal 14 September 1942. For his heroism in exposing himself to enemy fire in an attack on Henderson Field and maintaining effective rifle fire until killed, he was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross. A Navy ship was named after him. The USS Frybarger DE705

Awesome - phenomenal job!! Thank you so much for doing this. I am in my 70's now, and although WW2 ended shortly before I was born, I remember the stories of these places. Unfortunately we are probably the last generation with an emotional attachment to these fields of honor. Thanks again!

I think that you are correct in your assumption that we may be the last generation to feel this attachment. It saddens me to think that way as I have always had an interest in the happenings in Guadalcanal during the war.

I visited Bloody Ridge in 2007. The grass in the jungle would cut you like a knife. The sickly Japanese soldiers were so weak from traveling the mountainous terrain from the northern coast and circling back to attack Henderson Field from the south, their only real break was how sick the US Marines were from the same inhospitable conditions. It was better to be relatively stationary as the Marines were, but jungle diseases didn’t spare you if you weren’t mobile. Disease was a huge, huge enemy for both sides.

Great work. Showing the drone direction and angle of rotation really helps. Know what the terrain would have sort of looked like *in the day* really brings home how awful these fights must have been.

So fascinating-thank you. That’s a nice feature showing the moving map while the camera is recording. The barb wire and pigtail posts that are left behind are curious relics. Obviously someone cleaned up the battlefield of ordnance, etc. to make it safe, but decided not remove the barb wire.

I found a photo in a book on Edison’s ridge that showed hundreds of dead Japanese. But in the foreground were marine dead some on stretchers all with knives in them some with dead Japanese draped over them. It’s early morning with haze and a skirmish line of marines checking the dead ! You need to find that photo and publish it!,,

Just exceptionally well done. Loved the integration of the maps with the live shots. Best overall picture of this incredibly important fight. A PRODUCTION SUGGESTION: The background music is well chosen but in the interludes between dialog, it's just way too loud. It should be background but not concert or climax volume. Not a deal breaker or anything but it is annoying.
