<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="250">4:10</a> I totally disagree with her on this, A Psychiatrist does not just only prescribe you medication like a general practitioner or a Physician, they are trained extensively in their post graduate training to understand the neurobiology of the psychiatric disorder and the socio culture context of a precipitating factor that triggered the illness by taking an extensive Medical History and only then prescribe the patient medication if it is necessary, because in some cases due to disturbed neurobiology no form of psychotherapy will work. They are trained as well in terms of taking basic therapy sessions, which some Psychiatrist infact rely on instead of prescribing medications first. And in majority of the cases in India it's the other way around usually the psychiatrist refers the patient to a clinical psychologist if they require a more specialised therapy. Bottom line a Psychiatrist with additional training can do both jobs (Of a Doctor and A therapist), but on the other hand a Clinical psychologist can handle mild to moderate forms of non Psychotic Disorders upto a certain extent independently and Aid the patient in recovery if they have a special requirement for a certain type of therapy.
