If I didn't know better my guess is you are on route 59. Ely, NV has a railroad museum on Nevada Northern line. Kennicott Mining shut the operation down giving all its assets to the town of Ely. At the mine location the back shops can still rebuild any part of their steam locomotives. They operate 4 of them and have a fleet of Alco diesel locos, also. Got to go visit Dirt the cat.

Thanks! I reached out to Honda USA just after I completed the SCBR to see if they might be interested in sponsoring or supporting the video series. They replied back with a cryptic email roughly stating that they only work with companies (corporations) and not individuals. Oh, well. 😒 If that collaboration had worked out, then I'm sure that I would have needed to moderate my content a little differently to be company and advertiser-friendly. There are always trade-offs. Maybe we'll see if I'm advertiser-friendly enough for a future series?! I can muzzle the F-bombs and colorful expletives if I really try! 🤣 Honestly though, I wonder how many Super Cubs I've helped them sell over the last three years... probably dozens, if not hundreds of them! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

The was so cool to relive that piece of highway. One of the things that I wrote over and over again in my journal was how impressive the scenery we experienced as this Canadian rode the Scooter Cannonball. In my defense on navigation abilities. I always managed to find cold beer at the end of the day. We could have let Gildo lead but that would have potential for real trouble.
@QuasiMotard

@@gildodesimone3587 @ericsemple 🤣👍 Mulligan! Redo! I'm up for that wine and a massage! You can't trust a Canadian to find good Italian hospitality! 🤣👍 I'm editing Day 10 right now. I'm planning to do a medium-length version of Day 10 with condensed ride sections and the ceremony dinner. Then I'll make separate full-length videos for the CA-36 ride and the ceremony dinner by themselves. That ride on CA-36 deserves its own video by itself... that was an epic road! Adrian and I had more epic riding on the way home through CA, AZ, and NM. We rode through the Mojave Desert, chased alongside freight trains, and rode to the Grand Canyon where we motocamped overnight. We rode into NM the next day, and caught a hot air balloon ride on the following morning... that was fun! Those videos will be coming soon as well. All of the flat, boring roads in west Texas were a real let-down after all of that epic scenery! 😉👍 --QM

Howdy, Lance! You're correct... that is an auxiliary fuel tank. It's one of only two "Neil tanks" in existence! I have one on my Cub, and Adrian has the other one. Our buddy, Neil, custom fabricated those tanks and mounting cradles for us before we left on our 10K-mile cross-country trip for the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run. They hold about 1.3 gallons of fuel, but they aren't plumbed into the main fuel supply. We used them as emergency fuel supplies and as transfer tanks during our extended road trip. You can see it in action here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIrNnolte9Z_ha8 . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

The trailer's empty weight (including the hitch) is only 35 pounds, so it pulls behind nearly any motorcycle like a dream! Another good one! Thanks! I got a question. It may have been answered and maybe I missed it, sorry if that's the case. The red auxiliary fuel tank on the SuperCub, is that tank ever used? Seems like it would be a lot better option than dealing with Rotopax. How big is it? Does it work in line or in parallel with the main fuel tank?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! The auxiliary tank in the step-thru area is just a Jerry can... it's not plumbed into the main fuel system. The capacity is ~1.3 US gallons, and we used them as secondary/backup holding tanks during our Scooter Cannonball trip. Those tanks and mounting frames were custom-built for us by our friend, Neil. He fabricated those as a surprise, and he didn't even have a Super Cub to pattern the template! He drove back and forth to a local Honda dealer several times to take measurements and to make cardboard templates from a showroom bike! What an amazing and talented guy he is! 👏😉👍 --QM

I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra that's in a Quad Lock case, and that secures to the Quad Lock wireless charging base. I put CRG bar-end mirrors on my Super Cub, so the original mirror mounts are availble for me to put other stuff in those spots. The RAM angled ball adapter mounts fit under the existing mirror posts or, in my case, are secured with M10 bolts. The full Quad Lock solution is a bit spendy, but it's very secure and the convenience can't be beat: no charging cables to attach, and it works in the rain! Here are the links to the various pieces if you're interested: - Quad Lock Motorcycle Vibration Dampener: amzn.to/3huKyLt - Quad Lock 1" Ball Adapter Mount: amzn.to/3hqLvEl - Quad Lock Weatherproof Wireless Charging Head: amzn.to/46gl5x5 - RAM 1" double socket arm: amzn.to/2SZOgmD - RAM B-272U 9mm Angled Bolt Head Adapter: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012TRIY4 (placed under mirror perches) - RAM B-376U motorcycle handlebar clamp base: amzn.to/3BAKswi (handlebar clamp or any M8 bolt) I use the RAM ball and the Quad Lock 1" ball adapter for a more flexible mounting system. I can swap cameras, GPS, phone, or other accessories onto the RAM balls whenever necessary. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Want to sign up for 2025 cannonball. Wife will be riding a separate bike, has license but limited experience. The super cub looks like an easy machine to use, but does it's slow speed make the run too difficult in your opinion?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 8 ай бұрын
The Cub's 55-60 mph top speed is adequate for most of the back highways along the SCBR route. The unscheduled (and inevitable) gravel sections and the occasional interstate highways can be challenging but not impossible... it just takes a bit of extra concentration. The real question comes down to her comfort level on the bike and whether she has the gluteal fortitude to sit on the Cub's saddle in the toilet seat position for 10+ hours/day. That was the biggest challenge for us... just suffering through the butt and hip pain. We got accustomed to the pain and the pace after about a week on the road. So, I would recommend her to practice and work up her endurance to 300-400 miles before the SCBR ride. Lastly, you might want to consider which scoot you'll be riding if you intend to ride together. Keeping pace with the (potentially slower) Cub and synchronizing fuel stops might be challenging. Adrian and I rode identical machines, so our speeds and range were roughly similar. Cheers, and good luck with your upcoming adventures! 😉👍 --QM

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Had never really thought about the " toilet seat position" description before but it is very appropriate! We are fortunate in that we travel on motorbikes around 15,000 miles each year in various countries so the sitting thing is not new. That being said, we tend to be on big comfy machines that make us look tough but in reality are just steps away from lazy boy recliners. Whatever machine we choose for her (Laury) I will get an identical one. Not only will it help with travel speeds but a tad easier for parts, repairs etc. Really appreciate all the video you have presented, the info and explanations take much of the guess work out for us mere virgins in the cannonball world. Work hard, play hard... that's my philosophy! 🤣 I'm an independent network consultant, so I am fortunate to make my own hours. Unfortunately, whenever I'm not working, there is no $$$ coming in, so I have to balance my madness with a little bit of sanity. I typically work crazy hours for 4-6 weeks, and then I'll take off for 5-14 days to unwind and recharge my batteries. I try to take 4-5 shorter road trips per year, and then at least one big one. The Scooter Cannonball was a trip in the making for several years, and it was the longest duration event where I was out on the road... and it was my first real "vacation" in nearly 15 years. We are already planning our 2023 Scooter Cannonball, but I don't think it will be quite as long... probably only around 14-16 days total instead of 27 days like last year. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

🤣 We didn't even know where we were most of the time! I tried to mention the highways or towns while I was riding, but that was just an afterthought... our primary focus was on riding and trying to soak in the scenery without falling asleep. In some of these later videos, I have added the gauge overlays with rolling GPS coordinates in the map on the lower-right corner. Those coordinates can be plugged into Google Maps to see expanded views of our route. I had to use Google Maps and Street View a few times to pick up information about where we were... everything was a blur after the 2nd day. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
