And you are correct,,,the stock air filter works better with the jet set up on your scooter.... but if you want to replace it with an after market cone filter you need to feed the carb more gas so you have to play around with the different jet set up and not with the air/fuel like some people write on there comments .....air/fuel adjustment is only for adjusting the idol on low rpm

You have to up jet the carb if you increase the air supply. Really you can just take out the piece inside the stock air filter too but you still have to increase the jets size or lower the clip on the carb needle.

I just tried this, I went from a 107 jet to a 115 and it bogged at 1/4 throttle, so I went down to a 110 jet, still some hiccups at Wide Open Throttle .. I dont know what else to do, perhaps swap the pilot jet out from a 35 [I believe] to a 38? Thinking about just going back to the stock air box if its gonna be this much of a pain.

You need to rejet the carburetor after adding a new air filter or else the engine air fuel ratio isn't balanced, simply just buy some carburetor jets with bigger holes in them. If you had installed new carb jets with that larger air filter it would have actually increased your engine performance because you are adding more gasoline to go with the extra air passing through the carburetor venturi.

Wouldn't a simple air/fuel ratio adjustment be the next thing to do after removing the OEM air box with a cone filter? Before going through a rejet? Especially if the stock 150cc engine isn't bored out.

Put a $75 after market exhaust system. Change main jet to 95, idle to 35. Top end to 80 cc, cam to a7. Pod air filter. You play with the clutches. I got 8mph more. No more pushing up hill.

you can just remove the hose from the air filter then put the "new" filter on end of pipe then you don't have to worry about the crack breather pipe as its already fitted to original pipe

I’ve just tried to do this on a factory carb, it won’t work unless you have an aftermarket carb with bigger jets, putting the filter on gives it more air so you need to give it more fuel, factory carbs don’t have the right jets to adjust. Ultimately you need a new aftermarket carb and then tune it.

Nah you can replace the keys in a stock carb and tune the air fuel ratio screw. But you'll need to UNtamperproof the carb to acess those things. You tube videos to teach you how to do that.

well what you are doing is de-restricting your original air filter, because the original can only move so much air, because it has a bit of resistance. if you put on the ''power filter'' (is what they are sometimes called) you will LEAN the mixture because you are giving the carb way more air, and still the same amount of fuel. so what you should do is increase the main jet size by alot, and lower the roller weights in the variator to really notice the performance boost. but this is very tricky to get right, and the tuning can take days or even weeks.

I've got a uni foam filter on my 139qmb with upjettted carb 50mm bbk and larger head and a9 cam and runs great also best to fit bigger battery as I noticed the bbk has so much more compression the standard battery does not cope well

If you definitely feel like you have less performance then you’re definitely doing something wrong because every scooter will take a count filter you just have to tune it right and the current filter will allow the engine to breathe which in turn will make your bike faster I’ve had a lot of scooters that didn’t want to take a count filter unless you do some detailed tuning

It will work with the air filter bro you just have to return the carb mine gave me the same problems when I first tried to put it on with the factory carb even putting a bigger carburetor on it so I took the air filter off bought a 24 mm nibbi. Carburetor to go with my navy cone filter and everything is running great now the bike really opened up I can do 0 to 50 in about five or six seconds with the hundred cc bore. Exactly what I was thinking. You can literally hear the air sticking into the engine. That is a huge factor for the factory air box. Reduce noise, keep the air dry, and limit the air to a specific meter about of flow. If they can relate how much airflow goes in, they can set up the carbs all the same to make it easy on them. Repeatable results. Not meant to maximize performance.

Hey Josh, not sure if you've upgraded to a new carb on this scooter, but to get the cone air intake to perform better you should consider adjusting the fuel/air ratio screw on the carburetor to give the engine more fuel. The new intake may be causing the engine to run "lean" since it's supplying the engine with more air, decreasing the fuel to air ratio.

the screw that is directly underneath the throttle cable, will be your idle screw. dont touch it unless you want to idle higher. the other screw is your air/fuel mixture. turn left for more air, turn right for less air.

Oh wow thanks for providing this video even tho it failed. Some of us need to see what happens and what we can do about it.. Glad I ordered jets when I ordered a new air filter. Reading the comments suggests new jets I see. I cannot turn up the idle screw it is blocked off, and would need to be drilled to get to it.. so I wont mess with that if I dont need to. Thd only reason I took the stock air box out was I bought that Ankle Biter CVT Cover and now my stock filter doesn't line up to the bolts. I can update anyone interested in what number jet I went up to. Also I live on the far east coast [elevation seems to matter too I believe]. Post a reply if you would like to know what I did.
