An epic journey of discovery into the world of anamorphic lenses.
SCOPE Chapter one is about the background of anamorphic. We show you the different flavours of widescreen cinema from Cinerama, over Cinemacope to 70mm and Techniscope.
We show you why anamorphic fell out of hollywoods favour, and why it made it back.
We explain the physics behind anamorphic lenses and what makes the image so diffrent to normal spherical lenses, what problems come with the process, practically and optically, we explore principles different lens designs, the fashion of anamorphic throughout cinemas history.
And while we are at it… we debunk some common misconceptions.

There’s “next level” and there is Media Division. They set out to make the ULTIMATE every time. I simply can’t believe how brilliant and thorough these productions are. (They even knew to get Tito or it wouldn’t be a “complete” anamorphic discussion) The execution of retelling classic scenes is done flawlessly. The production of these scenes alone(including NAILING audio treatment, color grade/texture and angles) is not to be taken lightly. SUPERB! Not to mention the pacing of information, the order that information is delivered, the humor always sticks the landing, the perfect flow of energy/tone is ALWAYS struck. Combined with stellar production value from beginning to end, sweeping cinematic cinematography synthesized with procedural technical footage when appropriate... People comment about these being movies in their own right... having helped make a feature length, this is BETTER than most productions that are made. It’s very obvious they take that rare approach: They ask “What is the absolute best form this could take?” They interrogate and investigate every dimension of the subject always with the vision of what this medium COULD BE at it’s best rather than slightly improve on the existing VLOG format; put out another of the endless “talking head” cinema/gear channel polemics. These guys deserve an award that doesn’t exist yet for producing content of this quality. This incites more joy, excitement and innovation than Apple’s “Special Events”. That combination of effective technical presentation/teaching, fantastic humor, imagination, the technical know how to achieve these results, the freedom and willingness to be silly... the sheer excellence and style on display. It’s exceedingly rare to find all these elements in one group of individuals... and with ZERO pretense. With vision and problem solving skills like these, they SHOULD work on cleaning the water in Flint or finding the cure for old age but I guess we’ll have to settle for these world class cinematic didactics. What a damn gift for anyone interested in film. Bravo. Again. You have earned my trust, my respect and my viewership.

Thank you so much "Haunted by the living" that is a beautiful, long, brilliant and flattering comment… very much appreciated. Now it is hard to even come up with an answer or "thank you" that would live up to it. We are very happy that you see at this way and that you can appreciate all the pieces that come together in a production like this. Our mission to create something extraordinary to induce passion and soul into a new generation of filmmakers requires that. Unfortunately, KZbin doesn't seem to be on our side in this. This episode only generates halve of the viewership we usually get around the same time… and we are a little sad about that. It is not that the quantity matters that much, but with this effort we need to reach a sizeable audience to make it worth it. We are living in the age of the 5 second attention span. If you see a way to bring this to the audience and to let it make the impact it was supposed to have… let us know. Meanwhile I will work to cure ageing… my face can use that! Thanks again for you kindness and your motivation Haunted… we really appreciate it!

Technical narration throughout is fantastic and the overall editing and production quality of this film is on par with some of the most impressive work highlighted within it. I love cinema and everything about it, and so this brilliant knowledge powers my head so strongly that I don't know how to thank this channel. I subscribed within the first few seconds. This would destroy at a film festival, but it is for me. After watching "Shooting Ultrafast" episode I thought nothing can ever surpass it, foolish me. To say that the movie is increadible is to say nothing. I'm afraid that I will have to enrich my vocabulary for compliments for the part 2 of this project. Not only it is masterfully done and very informative, it goes like a movie, I dont know about others, but the time flew by very quickly, it felt like 20-30 minutes at most. I dread to think how many days to shoot and to edit it took from zero to finish..

Thanks a lot Abukoff... the SCOPE series really took a looong time to produce... and it still does for number 3. Anyhow, this didn't get the resonance we where hoping for, so we will approach subjects in the future, that appeal to a slightly larger audience and try to stay below the one hour mark. While many say they enjoy the feature length, the numbers tell a different story. In any case, nothing close to this would be possible without our beloved members like yourself.
