@@ScorchedEarthToys sure. That SD Macross was at least a unique design. It wasn't a toy made to look exactly like something from a show. (EDIT: Also a bootleg and should not be allowed. If you were running a company and your IP was being bootlegged....) I think it is a bigger sin especially since Big West has announced their disapproval and Noel was seeking a license but when he was not approved proceeded to release the model anyway.

@@elistratton1071 BigWest had zero companies trying to produce a die-cast Tomcat for that license just like they had nobody wanting to make an SD SDF-1. I don't like KOs that rip off manufacturers, nor do I like third parties that compete with first parties, but third parties that fill an ignored segment?

@@ScorchedEarthToys we don't know what Big West might want to make tomorrow. We don't know that they might license an F-14 for Zero. They did allow Black Aces aka Calibre Wings to produce die cast f-14 for Wonderfest a few years back and then Calibre Wings aka Black Aces turned around and using their other name acquired an HG license and then released more.

@Shield Liger Harmony Gold DOES have the merchandising and original animation distribution rights to SDF Macross outside of Japan. That's what enabled them to create Robotech and why companies like Calibre Wings and Toynami market releases as either MACROSS or ROBOTECH. They are gradually losing trademarks which will hopefully pave the path to Macross sequels getting out of Japan but the international merchandising and animation rights for the original show belong to Tatsunoko who has licensed them to Harmony Gold.

@Shield Liger . hahaha im not saying that Hasegawa has a license from Big West. why Hasegawa find a licence from HG? i dont doubt that you can got Macross merchandising, but i am sure that is imported not selling for a local distributor. please understand when i say "land officially" I am not saying that X o Y company find a license from HG crap for sell Macross merchandising. the desire of thousands fans is that HG lose Macross and can get back to your real owners, AND all Macross merchandising FROM BIG WEST LICENSE can sell oficially in all regions, without extra fees for import it.

Die-cast is a dual-edged sword in transforming toys. It adds weight which causes joints to fail. Then manufacturers develop fancy joints to overcome the weight issue which increases cost. There's also issues with painted metal having to match the hue of plastic and the paint scratches off. In the end, toys are generally both better and cheaper if the exterior is plastic and metal is reserved for the joints/internal mechanisms (there are exceptions).

That is an ancient Flightpose stand. Calibre Wings sells their own version of it but I haven't tested one out.

No, the VF-1 releases are all licensed through Harmony Gold. It was their F-14 "inspired" by Macross Zero that caught BigWest's attention.

Only thing I disliked was the 1/72 scale. 1/48 scale would have been better. 🤏
