Really nice video. I agree 100% with the advice. btw, I’m an OM, but I love the idea of “manual FT8.” But, that’s just a start. You’ll get a lot more out of CW if you get past that phase.

GREAT VID. Dits and Dahs carry no emotion so as a beginner you imprint a scowling face of a frustrated sender when you fumble a call sign. Now that I'm a 1,000 + QSOs in, I realize those Dits and Dahs are an earnest and friendly "Welcome! I'm thrilled to send and receive a signal with you. Let's work through this." By far, my favorite QSO's are with a new operator who sends 10 wpm and asks me 3X to repeat my call. If CW was easy the reward would be diminished. Good radio etiquette is far more important to other operators than a beginner's send/copy ability.

MANUAL FT8 🤣🤣🤣. Some OM just died of a stroke hahaha

On Point! Ditch the decoder. Mistakes are okay, it is not a failure if you don’t copy 100%, and truly mistakes are common . Good luck on your journey.

Hello Mark KD7DTS, Hello Josh KI6NAZ, I have been following Mark's Channel a lot, I really like the way you conduct because I have learned a lot from you, I have been a licensed amateur radio operator since 1999 and only last year 2023 did I start dedicating myself to Your Channel, which I found by chance on You Tube inspired me, because your method of passing the CW Translation in Subtitles was very good, I hope to meet you on QRG soon as soon as the propagation allows Success with Your Channel 73

I did great with CWops on the beginner course but on the intermediate I couldn't make the classes. New job and baby got in the way. LICW gives more options but either way its like many other things... repetitive time input on a consistent basis. I've failed at it lately.... but hopefully will get back to it soon. W4LJH

Maybe we should call "CQ FT8 DE XXXXX", means we only exchange RST and GRID, no ragchewing. no excuse to end a QSO(something like, "my cat is bugging me", hihi). It's indeed a good idea.

One of our SOTA regulars in SoCal ends our QSOs with "meow"... first time I heard that instead of 73 I almost spat out my coffee!
