It truly is a Tiki Christmas! I wanna apologize about pestering for this drink. Kinda like the Singapore Sling, the history of this one planted seeds in my head. I'm glad you finally covered it, and it makes for a great way to end out 2018. My only complaint is the bowl you used: The earlier versions I thought were more intricate, and the tikis holding up the mighty vessel seemed more excited, but maybe that it's just me. Though it does make me wonder if you'll cover some of the Trader Sam's drinks in future videos. There's plenty of recipes online due to reverse engineering from ingenious tiki goers, and I know you might have fun with them!
@DistinguishedSpirits6 жыл бұрын
Glad you dig the video and was worth the wait. This bowl is different from some of the other Trader Sam's bowls. This one is the Drummer Bowl and the other editions they've had were the Uh Oa! Bowl. I'm not sure about the Trader Sam's drinks. I liked the ones I had, but I've got a handful of other drinks queued up in the meantime. Wanna send me some links to the reverse engineered drinks?
Just tried the drink. It was fantastic! Thank you for the video.

@DistinguishedSpirits6 жыл бұрын
In terms of creating a single serve, just divide everything by 4. It scales pretty well. 1 oz (30 ml) Gold Cuban Rum 1 oz (30 ml) London Dry Gin 0.5 oz (15 ml) Brandy 0.5 oz (15 ml) Orgeat 0.33 oz (10 ml) Simple Syrup 0.5 oz (15 ml) Lime Juice 1 oz (30 ml) Orange Juice Shake with 6 oz (180 ml) of ice. Pour unstrained into a glass or tiki mug. Serve with straw.

Hey hello 😊 I am a great tikifan and love your videos and recipies! But I am not able to find this bowl! Can yo help me please? I live in germany. Same is with the Hamilton rums... Btw love your new Painkiller!
@DistinguishedSpirits3 жыл бұрын
Hamilton rums are hard to find in Europe. You're going to have better luck with other brands. And this bowl in this video came from Disneyland's tiki bar called Trader Sam's. So you'll have to get it there or on eBay. I know there is a Trader Sam's in California and Florida, but I'm not sure if there's one in the Paris Disneyland, which I assume is the closest one to you. All that being said, you can get another bowl and serve it that way. It doesn't have to be in this one. I think Trader Vic's sells Scorpion Bowls and Tiki Bowls on their website. Or if you live near Munich, you can stop by the Trader Vic's there. One of those bowls would be more authentic anyway. Prost!

Is shaking the drink with only a little crushed ice and then letting it dilute in the glass the way you now think is best for shaking tiki drinks, or is it only the particular style for this and the Tia Mia?
@DistinguishedSpirits6 жыл бұрын
In terms of the Tia Mia, I like to whip it (shake it with only a little crushed ice). This process it similar. Beachbum Berry recommends blending it instead of shaking or stirring. Either way, you're going to get integrate all of the ingredients, chill it down a bit, but allow the ice in the bowl to do most of the heavy lifting in terms of dilution. That way, it will act like a tradition punch, where it starts off strong and mellows as you work your way to the bottom. It's just a matter of getting the right balance for the dilution. Anyway, hope that helps. Cheers!

Great video! For someone that really knows his drinks, I'm curious of your thoughts with Disney's tiki bar franchise?
@DistinguishedSpirits6 жыл бұрын
It was pretty good. They have a lot of great design, decor and effects. In terms of the menu, they don't have a lot of classics (Fog Cutter, Zombie, etc.) but their original tiki drinks are all pretty exciting. They have fun, collectible, limited mugs, so that usually excites the tiki fans. They also have good music playing, all mid-century exotica. I've only been to the one in CA, so I'm not sure how the FL one compares. Either way, if you're into tiki, you'd probably dig it. Hope that helps. Cheers!

Any new Tiki drinks on the horizon DS? Also, have you tried using a drink mixer for your Tiki drinks instead of a shaker? Any differences to the end product?

How does the L’Orgeat compare to the 12 bottle bar recipe?
@DistinguishedSpirits6 жыл бұрын
L'Orgeat is tasty. I still haven't had an orgeat that tops the 12 Bottle Bar recipe. BG Reynolds is too flowery. Orgeatworks is good, but even more floral. L'Orgeat is great, but the 12 Bottle Bar homemade stuff is really amazing. L'Orgeat scores some points for being shelf-stable. The 12BB recipe has the perfect thick, syrupy and (very, very lightly) gritty mouthfeel to it. L'Orgeat is slightly thinner, still syrupy, but no mild dusting of that almond meal texture. It's just really smooth. So, I still like the 12 BB better, but L'Orgeat is really solid. Plus, L'Orgeat was easy to shoot with it. It acted like a spirit and not a cold syrup with condensation and leaving rings on the bar and finger prints in the beads of condensation. Little things like that. Haha. Hope that rambling paragraph answered your question. Cheers!

I’d rather have too much information than not enough. I appreciate all the content that you make for this channel. 12bb recipe it is. I wonder what all the tiki bars by me use, tiki ti, Tonga hut, lono, trader sams ? Inquiring minds want to know.

Probably Orgeatworks (Latitude 29's brand) or BG Reynolds would be my guess. Knowing Lono, they might make their own.

@DistinguishedSpirits5 жыл бұрын
It's 3.5 oz of sweet to 6 oz of citrus. It's balanced in this recipe, but if you're afraid of it being too sweet, just start with 2 oz and add everything else, taste it and see how it turns out. You can always add the other 1.5 oz later.
