I saw them in their Word Tour in july 16th, at Madrid (Wizink Center). I still vibing as hell with them. When you see the energy who shows Klaus Meine with 76 years old, or Matthias Jabs with 68... you cannot put any excuses in your life about be tired haha. They´re ROCK LEGENDS. This song is an anthem against the Berlin Wall and the Cold War. Epic and legendary.

1991 is the year Soviet union fell and the Berlin wall came down. Family's separated for50 year's were able to be together again. The fall of communism is something the scorpions understand well being from Germany.

This song was recorded just before the fall of the Berlin wall (and the video just after), and it really did capture the unprecedented sense of hope, felt across the entire world (save perhaps for soviet politicians, lol). But everyone else... this was one of the most profound moments of the 20th century. I think that's one of the biggest generational gaps in modern society, people who remember the wall coming down, and those who came after. The whole world changed. It's hard for people who weren't around then to understand just how impactful that was. But songs like this can give you a little taste of that. And for those who were there, it just pulls you back to that incredible moment. This is really an anthem. It wasn't written as one, but that's what it became.

I was there for this music video on MTV, back in the day after the 80's decades end. So many changes that year. Thank you, my lady. Such a wicked killer song from a powerful group of artists from Germany (West Germany, then). Cool little number right here. It really puts me right back in that special place and time in my life. Was a 1960's baby. A kid in the 70's. Came of age in the 1980's. As part of Gen X I witnessed the Change as the world woke up from the decades long cold war as the U.S.S.R. fell and was dissolved. This is a commentary on the state of the world just prior to and as the Berlin Wall came down 33 years ago. My father's first tour of duty in the Army was in West Berlin during the Airlift in 1949, before the wall went up.

This song documents the fall of the Berlin wall, the fall of the USSR, the end of the Cold War, and was first performed in Russia after the collapse of the USSR and, what was at the time, the closing of the aggression between the west and the USSR. It was a song for peace, a song of hope for the future, a hope and a future that we are squandering now. This song was about closing the cultural gap between the people of the USSSR and the west. The most powerful line in then song is "let your balalaika sing like my guitar wants to sing", meaning let your voice for peace in harmony with ours for peace. Too bad we couldn't keep that melody going. The first scene is the building of the Berlin wall. The final scenes are tearing down that wall. It's a song for peace and harmony. I still weep every time I hear this song for a future that never transpired. I'm 61 years old, and I watched the wall fall and thought we had finally turned the page, only to have my heart broken a mere 35 years later. We never learn.

Everytime I hear this song, I get tears in my eyes! If you watch a live version of this song, you see a lot of people in the audience crying big tears while singing the chorus! You don't have react to it, but take a look at "Scorpions - Wind Of Change (Live At Hellfest, 20.06.2015)" for example ... it's a "historical" song and when you've been around at this time, you just knew what this song is all about and how "the change" felt! .... Life changing!!! The seperated country Germany (where the band is from) was re-united again! *goosebumps

It wasn't Russia it was the Soviet Union but you're correct Russia was part of the Soviet Union as was Ukraine,Latvia,Armenia,Estonia, Kazakhstan etc etc.

While this song is about the end of the cold war, it was inspired when they played was at a music festival in Moscow. Which is why the Moskva and Gorky Park are mentioned in the song. The Berlin wall fell a few months later on 9 Nov 1989. The fall of the wall did seem like the ultimate symbol of the end of the cold war, and Wind of Change was quickly associated with the wall. It is the ultimate song for that period.

My oma and opa ( grandparents) immigrants from East Germany saw the Berlin Wall come down before they came to America and they told me stories of their hardships. I have a small piece of concrete from the wall to this day, my Opa gave me. Everytime I hear this song I remember them. I miss you Oma and Opa 💔😢

Klaus Meine (vocals) of Scorpions said the band's experience of playing concerts in Russia (the USSR in 1988), where rock music had been banned just 20 years prior... And for a German rock band to have thousands of Russian fans showed the power of music to heal the past aggressions between countries, since nazi Germany in the 1940's invaded Russia w/ tanks during World War II and killed half their population... And 50 years later, a German band like the Scorpions became a sensation in Russia. In 1989, Scorpions returned to play the Moscow Peace festival w/ Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue, Cinderella, and Skid Row. Klaus even shouted out their opening band Gorky Park from that tour in the lyrics. I believe Klaus wrote 'Wind of change' as a message of hope & unity ... Germany was divided between East and West since the 1940's by the Berlin wall... and in 1990, Germany reunited as one and the Berlin wall fell - something few could have predicted would happen in their lifetimes. He wasn't overly optimistic - the album in 1990 was called 'Crazy World' but Scorpions have always been about uniting the people of the world w/ rock music... Their first tour outside of Europe was in Japan in 1978... Their first tour of N. America was in 1979. Scorpions have played Australia, S. America, the Middle East, South East Asia, etc. Anywhere they could tour and build a fanbase. Klaus wrote a follow-up Scorpions single in 1993 against war and conflicts - 'Under the same Sun'... but it didn't have the same commercial impact in the 90's when bands like Scorpions were dismissed in favor of grunge and alternative rock bands.

I was in the 82nd ABN in the mid 80's. When the Soviets gathered at the Czechoslovakian boarder, I was sent to Germany to the 3rd ID to defend the boarder to Germany. Thankfully, agreements were made with no gunfire required.

I was 18 at the time this came out. It pretty much captures the feeling of the time with the end of the cold war and the iron curtain. It was also the time of the end of apartheid in South Africa. For a while there we all felt optimistic and hopeful about the future. It seemed like the world was on the path to being a better place. And then, of course, humans had to be humans and fuck it all up. I think this explains a big part of the cynicism and "fuck it all" attitude Gen-X is accused of. We grew up with the threat of nuclear war and such over our heads, then we were given a ray of hope for a brighter, better world only for it to be snatched away. Leads to a pretty cynical world view.

The song captures the spirit of hope that was prevalent in 1991 at the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union. Everybody was positive and had hope for a better future. The 90ies would become a decade of progress and hope for many. This was only ended with the 9/11 attacks on the WTC in 2001, which lead to The wars in Irak and Afghanistan against Al-Qaida and Bin Laden and the Taliban. The world has stagnated in the first decade (under GWBush) and the financial crisis in 2008 did the rest. The last 25 years have been somewhat of a sideways movement, but at the early nineties there was a spirit of hope for a better world and a „Wind of Change“. Unfortunately this hope has only partly materialized and Climate Change and migration problems as a result of new wars have posed new challenges and reality has turned less bright than everybody had hoped for in the early 90ies…

Ya this song captured the WHOLE feeling of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. I was in Poland in 89. We thought the guards would come and possibly get us for being American agitators. In the end it was positive thanks to Gorbachev allowing it to happen. (Of course, now Putin is trying to undo this great unravelling of the evil USSR empire). Sadly, China revolution the same time was crushed by CCP and 1000s of students were killed. My friend was there 2 days before in Tiananmen Square before the massacre happened. We must stop Putin's madness. Everyone in the ex East Bloc is against Russian rule.

The Scorpions are an awesome band, been a fan since Lonesome Crow came out in 1970. They have had a few personnel changes but always sound like the Scorpions and there is a reason some of their songs nave a billion views. Since you have heard a couple famous ballads of theirs, time for you to rock out, try Loving You Sunday Morning, another great tune you would love. They have decades worth of bangers to react to, lucky you! I hear you on war, there always is one or more going on and sadly looks like mankind has aways to evolve past it, so sad. If you have never heard Black Sabbath's War Pigs, you really should, please listen to the original audio only and concentrate on the lyrics, the video for it is distracting from one of the best anti war songs ever. I still can picture myself at home watching that damm wall fall. When I served, it was us against them. But a few years later watching it fall....I felt nothing but joy. Joy for them....not me or us, them... 911, Pearl Harbor, National invasion of Poland, Sputnik etc etc.....as important and world changing as they all were, pale in comparison to this event. .. .that evening the world truly changed. Politically, militarily, economicly etc. All by a Border guard simply saying yes. While the evening before, the same guard would have shot you for attempting to cross. Gorbachev deserves more credit from his own people for his leadership during those times. The dissolution of the USSR , the fall of the wall, etc etc....all done or allowed to happen, when just a few years prior tank's would have suppressed a peaceful protest, family members would be sent to the gulag for others actions, executions would have been ordered. Instead, families reunited after 50 years, siblings met for first time, a child met a grandparent, strangers who were taught to hate and distrust each other, hugged and cried tears of joy. Truly a event I am grateful to have witnessed.

I remember when it was released, I was finishing high schools & I experienced all these images live during the summer of 1989, all these dictatorships falling like dominoes, one after the other, and the fall of the Berlin wall after the summer. What an experience to see all of that--& hope for a better life for all these newly freed people. and 2 years later, the old Soviet Union finally blew up, freeing russian prople from 80 years long dctatorship. This song is still relevant in 2024, with the current world events (wars in Ukraine & Gaza).
