I'm an English ex-pat living in Saigon, Vietnam, and on your recommendation I went on the hunt for a bottle of green label. Theres a few districts of whisky shops, and in one long dark one less than a meter wide I found a very old, dusty, battered bottle of green label. the label has faded but you can still see an older lettering. it looks like it had been sitting in that dark corner of the world for at least ten years. im really very pleased with the find, and it tastes immaculate.

Also, you may find it interesting to note that Green Label is purely a blend of those four malts mentioned on the packet apparently! Great videos Ralfy, would love a chance to have a dram with you!

@ralfystuff What do you think of the gold label? I recently purchased a bottle and I am very pleased with it, though it may be a bit pricey. Especially served at freezing temperature without water. Also I'm thinking of purchasing an Aberlour, specifically the a'Bunadh. I am very excited about trying that one.

So I tried JW blue label yesterday and I have to say that I like it a lot. I have not tasted any other blended whiskeys in blue label's class, so I wouldn't be able to say if it is worth its price. Can you recommend any other blended scotchs that compares to blue label? I will say that I would probably not pay full price on my own. I split the bottle with two friends

I heard 15 malts were involved. If anything I couldn't pick up either Talisker or Caol Ila , which I like because it adds to the mystery. I definitely recommend this, you can see how they have tried to layer it so that you get the high citrus notes and the low liquorish notes and the peat/wood in between.

I love your idea of adding more color labels to the JW line. I think you managed to capture the right colors too for the flavors you proposed. You should apply for a marketing and product development job at JW lol. Another great review. Keep em coming. I bought a bottle here in Indiana and it was about more than twice what you paid, but being discontinued I had to get it before my only option was an auction where I'd likely pay more. Saving it for a semi-special occasion. JW really needs to find another mid-range product (beside the Double Black which I didn't care for at all) so you're not stuck with red and black at $20 or $30 and then going up to $100+ bottles.

I first got the "Pure Malt" version at a store near me not knowing what it was. Since I found out that it was being discontinued I went out to get another for a future drink/investment. The store was running low so they restocked their shelves and i found that they did not re-stock with the "Pure Malt". The "Pure Malt" was all the way in the back so check all the way to the last box to try and find it.

Another great review! For those claiming some JW better than others, wrong for the most part! There just all different. The black is smooth with vanilla and smoke. Love it! The Green is more floral, fruity, and spicy. Love it! The Blue is silky smooth with gentle smoke. The Gold is my biggest disappointment. Way to thin and unchallenging, and such a disappointment after teasing w/ a nice nose. How Ralfy rated that higher than Blue leaves me scratching my head every time. Blue is over

Ralphy, I'm a big fan of the reviews! I'm currently living in Taiwan where enjoying whisky has been in vogue for some time. Being a small island, the only thing people have to fight over is politics, with the Green party and Blue party constantly at one another's throat. Green Label for the bride's side and Blue Label for the groom's!

Great vid Rafly! The idea of a 'Brown Label' is a good one. Although I would suggest 'Grey Label' for a peat monster type whisky, possibly a little better in terms of marketing! I dont know why they havent done this yet. So many other companies are making lots of money from a heavy peat bottling.

Hey Ralfy, I recently purchased a couple of bottles of Johnnie Walker Gold 18yo at $80AU (approx. £48). Since this blend isn't produced anymore, can I expect it's value to rise in coming years? I might have found a good but expensive replacement for Green Label. Rattray's Selection Blended Malt whisky has only four single malts (Auchentoshen, Balblair, Benriach, and Bowmore) but the four are around 20 years old and it's bottled at cask strength. It's a cracking blend in my opinion.

+Jay John I'm pretty keen on my Whisky's. I agree with Ralfy, in that Green label I think, is the best buy of the Johnnie Range. Yes the more expensive Johnny Walkers are probably nicer, but I don't think their increased cost is justified, and if you're going to spend Gold/Platinum/Blue kind of money, there are far nicer whiskys to buy in that price range. Green is accessible, its common to find, and its a good price. It's at a price where its not a complete waste to chuck it in some ginger ale for a more refreshing drink, and its a perfectly good whisky to drink straight, or in ice depending on your preference.That said I haven't bought a bottle in at least 5 years. Once you start drinking whiskys you'll branch out and may not come back to it, but its a great place to start.
@auspolk8 жыл бұрын
+Jay John Another affordable place to start would be Johnny's Double Black, although at least in Australia I don't see it in shops that often. It's always in big bottles in duty free though. I think Green is nicer and more common anyway.

@ralfystuff Glad to see that you'll be reviewing bourbons, Ralf. Although, I wonder about the quality of selection you get in the UK versus what you can get over here... just like the lack of availability for some Scotches. New York State recently started producing a single malt by the way, its a bit expensive and has mixed reviews but all of them concede that it is individual in character and doesn't fit into any Scotch category. Its a shame I haven't seen it outside the upper Hudson valley.

I havn't come across this in Alberta yet, so I picked up the Green Label at a Costco in Palm Springs, California on the weekend for $40USD.
